Tax the rich.

Of course, you can never get a definition from them what constitutes being "rich".

Honestly, is there ANY economic, social, or fiscal problem that the Dems think can't be solved by raising taxes on the "rich"?

How can people fall for such simplistic, pandering drivel?

How bout the Rich leave?

Lots of planet for them to go if they don't like paying their fair share here.

Hey brainiac if all the rich left where do you think the taxes they take with them will be made up?

More brilliance from the left.

The Rich do not pay the most ammount of taxes BRAINIAC. It is the middle class that has the highest tax burden. Wow, more brilliance from the stupid people.

Think again smart guy

http://taxfoundation.org/publications/show/250.html

Top 5% paid about 53% of the federal income taxes in this country.

Top 5 is indicated by having an income of 126K a year.

Drive the top 5% out of this country and tell me where you come up with their 53% of the total tax revenues?

Wait a sec.... So being rich is top 5%? Since when is making 126k/year make you rich? we are talking about the RICH here. See how much taxes the income bracket of 100-200k paid.

I think being in the 95% percentile makes you rather elite and rich on top of it. But if you want to get picky the top 1% paid 34% of the taxes.

Lop off 34% of the tax revenue and let us know how you make that up?

Ill await further spin from you.

If the top 1% leave, so will the special interest groups. I can live with that. It will help to build up the middle class, which right now is shrinking.

lol how will you build up the middle class when they are stuck having to pay higher taxes due to the rich leaving?

Think about it for a second.

You save money by eliminating special interest groups. By eliminating TAX PAYER money from being used in golf trips by senators and company CEOs.

How much do you think special interest costs this country anyways? Golf trips cost 100K or less a pop. An absurd number of course but certainly not the 300-400 billion the rich pay in taxes.

How much do special interst groups cost taxpayers every year? What I mean is the ridiculous money the private sector gets from the government that is just wasted away. This is all driven by the 'Rich' because they are the ones with the most money to gain, not the middle class. Rich = Special Interest. The guys who swing the hardest have the most money.

Isnt welfare considered special interest? How about medicaid or SS?

Certainly not sole domain of the rich.

What % of budget is spent on welfare every year? 2%?

How come does it take 50% of the SS budget to run SS? Once again people with influence the 'Rich' are sticking their sticky and greedy fingers into everyone's money.

Medicaid is DEFINETLY a Rich interest group. Find out how much drug companies and equipment manufacturers make from the government. I think its a lot.

You are grasping at straws on this. Got smacked around by your assinine comment the rich dont pay a large portion of the taxes in this country and now want to try and argue about special interest groups.

You still havent provided a solution on how the middle class comes up with another 3-400 billion a year. If you cant answer that simple question then please quit trying to spin.

Just a quick response. Yes--those who have capital--the wealthy who own the means of production--would benefit from an increase in the supply of labor. Basically, it's a form of class warfare--it's a wealth transfer from the American middle class (which will become lower class) to the rich. The end result is that the wealthy will end up being able to keep a larger fraction of the value created by an employee's act of production.

As I see it, when the supply of labor increases exponentially, and the supply of impoverished labor in third world countries--a good portion of which is college-educated and/or becoming college educated (279,000 engineering degrees/year in India?), the end result is that the price point for labor has to decrease.

Interesting since so many of the Republicans chastise me for doing just that the past year.

I don't see why having an economy where many people work as individual contractors would be a problem. The real issue is whether the economy would be healthy enough to support them at middle class wages and at wages appropriate to their educational investments and degrees of skill. It's very possible to conceive of a healthy capitalist economy where a large portion of the people happily worked as independent contractors. Many professional service providers, such as attorneys and accountants, already do just that.

Good luck with that.

Why would this be such a huge problem? Let's suppose, just for a moment, that in a relatively capitalist-leaning free market economy such as the one we have today that the wealthy class woke up one day and decided to vanish in protest against the morality of altruism and those who claim that they really should not be morally entitled to all of the wealth they have acquired and accumulated. Let's suppose they pulled an Atlas Shrugged in today's America.

What do you think would happen? Would our society collapse from a lack of hard working, intelligent, innovative people capable of independent thought?

No. Rather, hard working, intelligent, innovative people would simply replace them and wealth would continue to be generated, providing tax revenue.

Don't kid yourself. If we suddenly lost every CEO, every law firm partner, every wealthy MBA, every manager, etc., hundreds of thousands of very talented, and in some cases more talented, people would gladly step up to fill the void and they'd probably do just as good of a job. We have huge amounts of untapped, under-utilized, and underemployed talent in this country.

[On the otherhand, if we instituted outright socialism or communism and it no longer made economic sense to do that kind of work, then we would in fact see Atlas shrug, which basically describes why socialism and communism always fail.]

Not enough tax revenue in the mid term and that is my point. Wealth isnt created over night and if some in the middle class moved up it would take years. In the mean time the middle class is forced to take the burden of the tax reciepts that used to be picked up by the rich. In this case if the top 5% leaves the middle class is left paying about a half trillion dollars

Just guessing off these numbers are are looking at a tax rate increase of at least double to make up the difference. We are talking about going from 25-30% tax rates to 50-60% tax rates. What do you think that will do to the middle class?

Sure that is why people swim across an ocean, a river in Texas, and across a desert in the southwest to come to the United States. Because the socialist countries in Europe are better.

I got you.

btw I heard an interesting statistic about illegals in this country. Apparently of the 13 million or so estimated illegals in this country only about 7 million of them are from Mexico and Latin America. Where do you think the rest came from?

Hint is Royale with Cheese.

Question: Why?

lol people are coming for oppurtunitys that their countries are lacking in.

just becasue things are not totally fvcked here yet does not mean we do not ned serious improvement.

we are living on borrowed money and time, those with a decent standard of living in europe are not coming over here in droves anymore.

bush has made sure of that. Mexicans are just coming back into their own backyard.

I just told a few europeans here in my room what you said.

(staying in a hostel) and they think you are funny.

America is good to buy electronics in becasue the dollar is sh1t.

none want to move here and look forward to going home after seeing the touristy stuff.

they are just fine with where they live and want no part in the mess of this place, as many americans feel also that are leaving.

I can count about 3 dozen people that have left for more civilised countries.

The world is actually pretty disgusted with what america has become if not one of the most hated countries on earth.

Too bad you are too blinded to see it, times change bub, get with the picture and help us get america back on track or get out of the way.

Same old story.
Cant come to grips with the fact the United States is still the greatest country on this planet.

Even older story. Until we are NOT the greatest country on the planet we should just accept our inevitible fate? Think again. Some of us don't care to wait until that happens and it is happening more every day.

Sure but steeplerot isnt one of them.

Like you have any clue about me, sorry you need to take a strong look at yourself first before you can even think you have a clue about anyone else.

I care very much for my country, so much I can use my head unlike you.

lol people are coming for oppurtunitys that their countries are lacking in.

just becasue things are not totally fvcked here yet does not mean we do not ned serious improvement.

we are living on borrowed money and time, those with a decent standard of living in europe are not coming over here in droves anymore.

bush has made sure of that.

Sure I do, you have posted enough to get a good picture of your demeanor towards the country.

You arent interested in bettering it, just bringing it down.

So you would love to put on everyone wo does not fullfill you narrow view of hatriotism.

Sorry, some people care enough to think and be rational instead of knee jerking into blind conformity.

Towing an anti-everything line is not the same as caring. You cant even complete a sentence without injecting some good old insult regarding this country.

Tell me 5 things that are great about this country.

I do not have a anti-everything line, just a anti-bs one.

YOU are the one that needs to find 5 things about this country you like.

Becasue you take it for granted with your apathy and your anti-freedom and democracy line.
