How much do you think special interest costs this country anyways? Golf trips cost 100K or less a pop. An absurd number of course but certainly not the 300-400 billion the rich pay in taxes.

How much do special interst groups cost taxpayers every year? What I mean is the ridiculous money the private sector gets from the government that is just wasted away. This is all driven by the 'Rich' because they are the ones with the most money to gain, not the middle class. Rich = Special Interest. The guys who swing the hardest have the most money.

Isnt welfare considered special interest? How about medicaid or SS?

Medicaid is DEFINETLY a Rich interest group. Find out how much drug companies and equipment manufacturers make from the government. I think its a lot.

Just a quick response. Yes--those who have capital--the wealthy who own the means of production--would benefit from an increase in the supply of labor. Basically, it's a form of class warfare--it's a wealth transfer from the American middle class (which will become lower class) to the rich. The end result is that the wealthy will end up being able to keep a larger fraction of the value created by an employee's act of production.
As I see it, when the supply of labor increases exponentially, and the supply of impoverished labor in third world countries--a good portion of which is college-educated and/or becoming college educated (279,000 engineering degrees/year in India?), the end result is that the price point for labor has to decrease.

I don't see why having an economy where many people work as individual contractors would be a problem. The real issue is whether the economy would be healthy enough to support them at middle class wages and at wages appropriate to their educational investments and degrees of skill. It's very possible to conceive of a healthy capitalist economy where a large portion of the people happily worked as independent contractors. Many professional service providers, such as attorneys and accountants, already do just that.

Why would this be such a huge problem? Let's suppose, just for a moment, that in a relatively capitalist-leaning free market economy such as the one we have today that the wealthy class woke up one day and decided to vanish in protest against the morality of altruism and those who claim that they really should not be morally entitled to all of the wealth they have acquired and accumulated. Let's suppose they pulled an Atlas Shrugged in today's America.
What do you think would happen? Would our society collapse from a lack of hard working, intelligent, innovative people capable of independent thought?
No. Rather, hard working, intelligent, innovative people would simply replace them and wealth would continue to be generated, providing tax revenue.
Don't kid yourself. If we suddenly lost every CEO, every law firm partner, every wealthy MBA, every manager, etc., hundreds of thousands of very talented, and in some cases more talented, people would gladly step up to fill the void and they'd probably do just as good of a job. We have huge amounts of untapped, under-utilized, and underemployed talent in this country.
[On the otherhand, if we instituted outright socialism or communism and it no longer made economic sense to do that kind of work, then we would in fact see Atlas shrug, which basically describes why socialism and communism always fail.]
Not enough tax revenue in the mid term and that is my point. Wealth isnt created over night and if some in the middle class moved up it would take years. In the mean time the middle class is forced to take the burden of the tax reciepts that used to be picked up by the rich. In this case if the top 5% leaves the middle class is left paying about a half trillion dollars
Just guessing off these numbers are are looking at a tax rate increase of at least double to make up the difference. We are talking about going from 25-30% tax rates to 50-60% tax rates. What do you think that will do to the middle class?

btw I heard an interesting statistic about illegals in this country. Apparently of the 13 million or so estimated illegals in this country only about 7 million of them are from Mexico and Latin America. Where do you think the rest came from?

we are living on borrowed money and time, those with a decent standard of living in europe are not coming over here in droves anymore.
bush has made sure of that. Mexicans are just coming back into their own backyard.

America is good to buy electronics in becasue the dollar is sh1t.
none want to move here and look forward to going home after seeing the touristy stuff.

I can count about 3 dozen people that have left for more civilised countries.
