LMFAO, the Bush adminstration is probably the most secretive and underhanded adminstration in the past 100 years... But most of that is a result of Bush looking like a underqualified nervous twit when faced with the horrors of press conference.

So you approve of this secret Senate meeting? You openly support secret meetings and tactics?

You can try to change the subject to Bush but this is the Senate. The democrats are trying to deny America open Government.
This hasn't happened in almost 25 years.
It's nothing more than a stunt by Reid to divert attention away from the wildly good news about Bush's SCOTUS pick.
Are you really as clueless as you sound, or are you just amazingly dishonest?

The reason for the closed session is that the Republicans won't give straight answers in public. Closing the session has nothing to do with the Dems trying to withhold information from the public, and everything with the Republicans unwillingness to do so.

Get your facts straight.

EBTs are always the most dishonest ones in the bunch. Facts are of little consequence when you can just whine, bleat, and obfuscate.

haha keep beating the same ol dead horse shades. at the end of the day, Reid got the job done and now the investigation will be moving along as it should.

this was a good move by the Dems, surprised the hell out of the Republicans, and now America as a whole will benefit. Republicans will of course try to spin this, and ask questions about Reid's procedural move, but the American public isn't buying your BS.

Of course Roberts is going to blame the Dems, Shades, it's his only defense, and he hasn't offered any evidence in support of his contention. Straight up blame-shifting. Dems have no way of holding up his report- his party has a majority on the committee, and can issue a report any time they please.

He got caught with his shorts around his ankles, and needs to say something, anything, to placate the faithful... and hold the critics at bay.

And ofcourse the dems are going to blame the Republicans - which you believe. So yes, it's blame shifting and a he said- she said game. Thus the whole shutting the Senate was a political stunt.

Sudheer Anne - from what I remember they weren't opposed to the 2nd phase(I never suggested they were), but that they were holding it up because of some wording or proceedure crap. If I could find the article I read last night, I would spell it out for you. But anyway, to make the claim that the 2nd phase wasn't going forward and they had to pull this stunt is absurd. They were notified on monday that it was moving forward.
As for Pabster, you can whine about him all you want but it looks to me like he more than took care of you guys in here. I'd suggest you let it drop because you are only digging yourself a bigger hole.

Spin it any way you want - political stunt, crazyness, insult to the "Grand Institution" that is the Senate - the bottom line is Repubs got caught with their pants and it was a brilliant move by Reid.

In the public's mind, "finding out the truth" will stick better than "political stunt", since it's all politics anyways.

Yeah, and you can spin it however you want too. You can claim it's about finding the truth or whatever but when the dems knew it was already moving forward and they still did this - it's quite obviously just a stunt. The Repubs didn't get caught with anything but you can keep dreaming. Once the dust settles, you will see that this stunt will have backfired/not worked for the dems. This is not how you win elections and increase your seats.

The bottom line is, Repubs never anticipated such a move. That is why Frist met with at least 10 other Republican Senators in the back of the room while Reid was talking. They got caught with their pants down.

I'm sure if you go to freeperville, you will see them complaining about the same thing.

So someone pulling a proceedural stunt is now suddenly equal to their opponent getting "caught with their pants down"?

When the other party is unprepared, yes.

You still don't get it, do you? The reason this session HAD to be in secret is that the Republicans were unwilling to give straight answers in a non-secret session.

Again, get your facts straight.

So your opinion is that Reid who was already informed on Monday about phase 2 being completed sometime next week had make the Senate go into secret session to get an answer?

I don't think you should be telling anyone to get their facts straight when you offer up that sort of tortured logic.

BTW, the investigation was moving along and the dems were informed on Monday about it's progress.

The only ones avoiding the facts are the ones trying to claim this was about Republicans stonewalling. That argument falls to pieces when asking why it needed to be done in secret. Keep up with your bleating and such about Republican stonewalling but the facts in this case don't support your bleats. The dems were informed on Monday about the progress and were told that it should be complete sometime next week.

And no one cares. Dems got an independent panel set up that will keep track of Phase 2's progress and make sure the investigation goes through unimpeded.

once again, how is anything that Reid did damaging? he has only helped this investigation because we now have a bipartisan independent commission that will make sure the work gets done. i can't see anything wrong with this, only you do because you don't want the truth to come out.

Well, let's hope it doesn't turn out like the "bipartisan" 9/11 Commission which ignored critical intelligence (dismissed it outright, in fact), and who had one member that ought to have been testifying before the commission, rather than sitting on it.

The timing of calling for a closed door session does not make much sense...why didn't the Democrats push this initiative during the election year, when it could have hurt Bush the most...of course, a logical answer would be that if the investigation came up empty handed, it would essentially vindicate Bush and hand another staggering defeat to the Democrats.

The timing of this "closed door session" has nothing to do with finding out the truth or moving the investigation further...it has everything to do with dirty politics...the Bush Administration has suffered a number of damaging blows in the last few weeks and months...Katrina, DeLay, the Plame investigation...Bush's numbers are down, and better to take on your opponent while he is weak.

Strategically it is a brilliant move...it could still bite the Democrats in the ass if the investigation comes up empty handed.

It has nothing to do with truth.
It has everything to do with the partisan strategic political machina...I suppose Democrats can rejoice that their party has made at least one strategically sound decision in handling the Bush Administration.

It has everything to do with the truth and that's the reason why the Republican majority has followed Bush's orders and refused to conduct their promised investigation.

What are they hiding?

The truth.

If the "truth" is the core issue behind this effort, why the publicity stunt now?

Phase 1 of the investigation was released back in July of 2004, and the results of that finding was extremely critical of the Bush Administration for using unsubstantiated intelligence in committing America to war in Iraq.

The findings of Phase 2 were already slated for release in the coming weeks.

No one was stalling the investigation...the investigation has been subject to bi-partisan review.

This has nothing to do with truth...sorry to burst your partisan bubble.

What are they hiding? The truth.
Then why the need for a closed door session, which prevents public access to the discussion? Surely if this was about truth, the Democrats would want the debate out in the open for all America to hear.

Phase 2 has been coming for eighteen months.

And the point of an executive session, as you should well know, is to discuss matters that are too sensitive to be discussed in open session. The Democrats want to discuss the matters publicly. It's the Republicans who refuse to allow an investigation. And apparently the move gained the desired effect. Or at least we'll know if it has or hasn't on November 14 thanks to Harr Reid. ;)

How can any one person or group of people who support this administration lay any claim to the use of logic?

You're ill thought out nonsense that begins with the ridiculous notion of the Democrats -- the minority party in the senate -- bringing "the debate out in the open for all America to hear" ignores the fact that the only method they had to bring the failure of the Republicans to fulfill their promise to investigate the lies of the Bush administration regarding Iraq was to use Rule 21.

Logic is as foreign to you as accountablilty is to Bush.

It's only after the fact that Repubs contend that Dems were notified of phase 2's completion next week, and there is, of course, no written record of that assertion...

Very convenient, eh?

Unlike the 20 documented times that dems tried to move it forward... to no avail.

Interesting also that both Shades and Pabster decry the source of that information w/o actually claiming it's not true, then go back to the usual diversions when challenged...

Why is Shades beating a dead horse? Because it's all he's got...

Which apparently isn't true for Reid, at all, if the accounts of some Senators being visibly shaken are true... and is really what all the whining and obfuscations are about.

That's just a taste, gentlemen. The main course is coming up.

The fact remains that reid's little stunt was nothing more than a political stunt. He knew the status and just wanted to throw a fit. It's my contention he did so to try to get the ever willing press to get off the SCOTUS story which isn't helping the left and change the subject to something they can spin as "bad" for Bush.

My guess is that people(except the Bush haters) will see his stunt for what it is - a tantrum.

Because investigations do take time.

According to the Democrats...take the source for what its worth...what do you expect Reid to say?

I don't believe any of them...I don't believe the Republicans Senate leadership has been pushing the investigation forward in total good faith...but I think Reid's statements and subsequent decision was all about the drama.

Nothing but a true win for the Democrats. The public knows now that the Repubs have been abusing their power in the government by hiding the intelligence mishaps.
Unless of course the bi-partisan commission comes up with nothing...in which case the Bush Administration will be vindicated of any wrongdoing, and the Democrats can resume their role as being politically ineffective.
