Saw screens for this one a looong time ago...it's just now in Beta? Well, I guess it's a good thing that they're spending so much time on it.

It has been in beta for like a year. Release is next month I think.

Release is April 14th, GameStop released it yesterday before they were suppose to.

With the release of Sins of a Solar Empire (also published by Stardock) it was stated that the DD (digital distribution) was slightly above average store prices because of a deal with distributors to not compete with sales in stores.

Now, its some piece of gimmicky crap instead. Game devs piss me off sometimes. FUCK YOU Chris Taylor.

lol

That's what I'm talking about. Why couldn't he do that now? With the new engine of SupCom. Instead of having to blow it on this game, which looks pretty lame.

its a lose lose situation with a lot of idiotic critics and gamers. if the go with the "if its not broken, then don't fix it" mentality and improve on a game, they will complain that its not innovative enough. but if they try something different, they'll get bitched at for going away from the original formula and destroying the game.

If they had made DotA with more maps and new features I would not complain one bit. DotA always has a hilarious collection of bugs and balance issues

if they come out with more maps, or have a map editor, that'd be pretty cool. i'm torn between this and DoW2, i'd like to pick both up. if gogamer runs a special for this at $30.. i'll probably bite.

Thing is, what has he done different that differentiates this game from any other?

It's just DOTA in some stupid looking setting with a bunch of lame looking wannabe cool units.

That's simply what it boils down to, name me one innovation this RTS promises that will distinguish it from other RTS games?

Reading the beta forums, it sounds like a lot of disappointment. I personally hate when developers release a game that is imbalanced or unfinished and it sounds like that's what's happening here. I've been a huge TA and Supcom fan since their release and I wanna see GPG do well, but my impression from what I've read is that Demigod is gonna be a disappointment. I think I'd prefer it if DoTA was released in higher resolution.

On the other hand, there aren't exactly a lot of good pc games available atm that I haven't gotten completely bored of, so this might kill a few weeks or something.

Edit: We'll be hearing a lot more impressions about it very soon, as the full version is available now in places we can't talk about.

But that is a beta. If you have ever dealt with Stardock beta releases before, you would understand that a beta from them is not the release candidate, but instead a playable early form of the game used to gather feedback from the public. The final product rarely looks much like the beta. (Their betas generally are lacking many features and graphical options, and are only used to test specific portions of the gameplay.)

I haven't played the game, but I wouldn't put too much stock into what beta testers are saying about the game. I would wait until it is released before you can really critique it.

I received an email about an hour ago saying that I now have access to the game via Impulse. Not sure if this means it's been unlocked or merely available for DLing. I'm at the office at the moment so can't investigate.

I've been playing the full version for a few hours now, initial impressions are positive but I don't think it's gonna be better than DoTA. Probably a few weeks of multiplayer fun, but not a game I'll be playing a year down the road. It is also currently lacking a lot of polish. Ie: I use an item that boosts speed by 25% for 8 seconds while attacking a fleeing hero, and it breaks off my attack... I try again and then right click him right after and my hero just aims toward him and spins toward him but doesnt run. This should of been fixed well before release so the speed boost would of been gained and you don't break off your chase. that and many other things.

After many coats of polish it'll be decent, but not nearly as good as dota basically is my current opinion. Game is pretty small too, 8 heroes and ~8 maps. Feels like a big demo.

From the man who brought us Space Siege.

I'll say again...from the man who brought us Space Siege.

I'll be cautiously optimistic.

Were you able to get the 0-day patch today? The servers have been really chunky as they didn't intend to launch the game today so they're running off the servers that were up for the beta. It was released a day early (today) as GameStop fucked up and released it on the 9th, 4 days before launch date. I'm not able to find out if the patch has even been uploaded to Impulse yet.

Doesn't matter, at the end of the day Chris Taylor will blame piracy for low PC sales and talk about how they're going to continue to concentrate on the console market primarily.

"We made a mediocre game and only X number of people bought it. Obviously, it's because of pirates."

Ya I'm gonna buy it too. I've been right on the line between buying it or not, but its $40 usd, pretty reasonable I think. I've been playing 2 player lan with the full version past two days. Definitely looking forward to owning some nubs.

So far I have put about 3 hours into it. Its ok but should be priced around $20. So far thinking I am going to get bored rather quickly, hope that changes as I play it more.
