Yep, right after they kill small children and rape all the women. All because of that evil marijuana.

people do that now, what's your point?

Simply extolling the dangers of that filthy, disgusting plant.

I would think that plenty of animals are killed and raped (I'm thinking cows inseminated with human fists up their asses according to dirty jobs) to create the foods eaten when the side effect of "munchies" rears its ugly head.

I was in Lisboa last summer and there was no shortage of people trying to sell drugs to tourists I can tell you that...not that the street cafe owners were any better of course.

Yeah, I don't really see why everyone wants to punish the users for using. Do people really care that much if their neighbor tokes up after work?

if you have a desire to intoxicate, you have a problem that needs rehab. Legal or otherwise.

Yep, if we just prohibit intoxicants all of society's ills will fade away... that's what the alcohol prohibitionists thought a century ago. And they were wrong, just the same as you are.

has no correlation on what the effect here would be or about "nightmare scenarios". They did not legalize it and still go after distributors, the retards around here want everyone to be free to buy/use at any time.

It has a huge correlation. It shows that if you focus on treatment vs punishment you can reduce usage and related crime. Something we have not been able to do.

It goes after the dealers vs the users.

The consumption, acquisition and
possession for one?s own consumption
of plants, substances or preparations

The key phrase??for one?s own consumption??is defined in Article 2(2), as a quantity
?not exceeding the quantity required for an average individual consumption during a period of 10 days.? Decriminalization does not apply to ?drug trafficking,? which remains criminalized and is defined as ?possession of more than the average dose for ten days of use.?

and that's where you are missing the point. those users will just stay angry at the system because you are still interdicting their supply.

That is not what the results prove. You have a theory, they have data.

You give him too much credit. Stupid, backward and irrational ideology doesn't constitute a theory. Combine that with syntax that would shame a 3rd grader and the irony that he would call anyone retarded becomes stunning.

Not to mention some people can actually function much better.

Have you ever suffered from a disease that caused constant nausea, sao123? I have family that has, and it helps them cope.

Agreed. It will not work here. And it has become a failure in Holland where criminal gangs are taking over the drug distribution business (surprise, surprise). The Mexican gangs are already growing pot on American federal lands. This will only further enrich them.

cigarettes and alcohol kill more people in the US than all illegal drugs combined.

This a was a gem:

And it hits on the point exactly. If you put pot smokers in jaail, they are not being rehabilited. Drug abusers are sick. They are not criminals. They need help.

Jail sentences should be reserved based on the severity of the act conducted. Like so many other bad ideas when you sprout a big government, immovable minimum sentences and such are as much a problem and an aide. You want to rot your mind and live in a green haze, then just toss a big fine on them everytime they are caught. There are plenty of programs out there that you could walk up to and receive treatment. If you don't want to, hope your checking account is looking good.

i wonder what would happen in Mexico if America de-criminalized possession.

until domestic manufacturing is allowed, you'd still have drug gangs fighting over
"rights" to distribute.

Bwhaha...Ok Sao, I'll give you credit for coming back to these threads after you've been owned so badly in every other thread. Although you're predictable, you also intrigue me a little. I wonder what someone went through to create such a close minded person like yourself.

well... my father has been a pastor for going on 30 years, many people have and still do come to him for counciling. I've seen first hand, almost a quarter centurys worth of peoples whose lives and families were ruined by addiction to drugs and alcohol - overdose, rapes & other sex abuses, jailed for fighting, physical and verbal abuse of family, unwed/unwanted pregnancies, divorces, people losing their jobs/houses, etc.

It might be peoples rights to fuck up their own lives, but ill be damned if I just sit and watch it happen. its fun for individuals, its destructive for families. go sit in an addiction center for a few days, listen to sob story after sob story, and then call me closed minded.

I agree with the principal concept, but it's really hard to compare us to Portugal. They don't have Mexico & South America knocking on their southern door and I doubt that their criminal network involved in drug trafficing and distribution in no where as violent and powerful as we have here.

Agreed. It will not work here. And it has become a failure in Holland where criminal gangs are taking over the drug distribution business (surprise, surprise). The Mexican gangs are already growing pot on American federal lands. This will only further enrich them.

Here's an idea that no one has thought of: Make it legal and control it ourselves.

Money for us. None for drug cartels. People don't go to jail for using it. Money that was used for enforcement can be used for meaningful purposes.

As shown by other countries, usage may increase slightly but if your against it now, are you going to go out and use it if it's legal? I doubt it. So what's the problem?

And for every person who has a sob story like this, there are 10 who it didn't affect their lives much at all. Ever been to a college campus?

Also, every problem you described above goes hand in hand with being an alcoholic (which you did mention). Do you also oppose the sale of alcohol, and would be willing to pass a law with long jail sentences for any person who drinks it?

Honestly, that's really the only way that I think you'd cut down on the criminal activity behind the scenes. It's hard to compare drugs to alcohol/cigarettes because drugs don't have Budweisers and Philip Morris type companies which are fully established, legal entities watched by a whole slew of government regulatory bodies producing and distrubuting them.

Until that regulated distribution exists, the seedy side of that market is going to exist.

I guess you aren't too familiar with our friend sao. The answer is yes, to that question and any other that deals with personal freedoms. Oh, except for food. Our boy sao is an eater.

If your in college, you probably have not been using long enough for it to affect you YET... use it long enough and it will eventually affect 100% of all users in some way shape or form.

we've already hashed this subject in other threads... yes, i would support laws opposing the sale of alcohol.

if you have a desire to intoxicate, you have a problem that needs rehab. Legal or otherwise.

Bet you're the life of the party.

well actually yes... well far more so than all the lethargic potheads whose asses are stuck to the chairs.

Are you an prohibitionist? You would seek to make illegal all recreational drugs including alcohol?

If so, what do you feel is the percentage of the population that imbibes of the evils of intoxication that also falls victim to it ruining their families, overdose, rapes & other sex abuses, or any of the other stuff you listed?

EDIT: wow, 100%
