Dec. CGW has X1800XT and XL reviewed

They like the performance of the X1800XT, as well as the adaptive AA and video capabilities, but say it's "too loud"

We're a bit disappointed that ATI hasn't managed to get it's cooling solution for this card down to a single slot or significantly reduce it's noise output. Under heavy load, it's just a bit too noisy a card, but the X1800XT has plenty to crow about.

Some disagreed with my 5800U parallels, but I bet they said about the same about that- good performance, too loud.

The X1800XL they say is " a bit of a letdown" due to it's pricing in relationship to 7800GTs.

It's quieter than a 6800U, a vanilla 6800, or a dual 7800GTX setup (like you use Rollo... gee that noise must kill you.)

It's really not THAT loaud of a card and not nearly as loud as the 5800U was. The noise issue is being exaggerated. I imagine it was just one of a number of bulleted points in the article but Rollo chose to quote just that.

Comparing it to the 5800U isnt even a good parallel. The XT is overall the fastest card, once it comes out. The 5800U wasnt, and had worse image quality, unlike the XT.

Your language makes you look pretty immature, but I get the gist of what you're trying to say about Rollo. However, in this particular instance I see that he is merely quoting an internet news report. What is so bad about that? You know he has a bias to Nvidia. So his reported point is still valid. Good ATI card, perhaps too loud cooling solution taking up two slots.

The XT is NOT the fastest card Ackmed.

The 7800GTX is the fastest card you can buy.

The dual 7800GT is the fastest card we know of that is in production, but not for sale yet.

And we don't know anything at all about the rumored 7800Ultra or 512MB GTX.

Moreover, I referenced four positive things they said about the card, and only one negative.

What's funnier yet is that there are actually more positive things about ATI in this post than negative.

No, you're wrong like Ackmed, the Asus dual 7800GT card is the fastest card we've seen reviewed and will totally own a X1800XT in many situaions:

Like I said in the original post, they pretty much like the card except for the noise.

And I suppose we should all be so concerned about their subjective evaluation of 'seems a bit noisey' when there are reviews out there on the web with actual decibel sound measurements that we can consult. LIke I said, the 6800U is louder as well as 2X7800GTX. Should we recommend against 7800GTX SLI because it's so noisey?

When people talk about the fastest card it's generally acknowledged that one is talking about single GPU cards. Dual GPU cards are a whole different matter, just as SLI or Crossfire is.

The X1800 XT is the fastest announced single GPU video card. There ya go. Let that get your panties in a bunch.

What you say does not make sense.

The Voodoo 5 was a dual GPU card, it was only compared to single gpu cards.

The ATI MAXX was a dual gpu card, it was only compared to single gpu cards.

The XGI Volari Duo is a dual GPU card that has only been compared single gpu cards.

There is no "dual gpu only" category, except in your mind.

The Asus 7800GT dual is the fastest single video card we've seen reviewed, period.

Beyond that, we have no idea if nVidia will launch a new product prior to the often delayed X1800XT, and we've seen rumors of an Ultra version, and/or a 512MB GTX.

If you check out my Leadtek post, you'll see that with ATI-esque cooling the 7800GTX aparently has some headroom, 533MHz* average OC from four reviews. (although I don't know if it's fair to call the Leadtek cooler "ATI-esque" as we don't know if it's loud)
*stock clock is 490MHz (I think I'd rather have a 530MHz 24 pipe card than a 625MHz 16 pipe card anyday)

So who knows what the future holds? All we know about the X1800XT is that it's been delayed many times and is still not here.
