It is not that we want more debt. It is that we are realistic. There is no way to make meaningful cuts to our budget. It simply cannot be done. Anything that has enough budget to not be a rounding error is a sacred cow that no one will touch. You saw what the Republican reaction was to even mentioning Medicare and Social Security cuts. So what are we to do, disband our military altogether?

Somethings gotta give. How do you think we should fix this?

Honestly don't think we can fix it. I think it is one of those things where you have to wait for it to break before you can fix it. No one is willing to do anything meaningful about it while it is working. So, if this really is a problem, we have to wait until it becomes painful enough that we can't ignore it any more. We simply are not there.

Probably start happening about the time we start building seawalls on all of our costal cities. Meaning when we are 2 ft under.

When you figure out how national debt works, you will figure out that debt is the only way a government can function.

(hint: government has always been in debt since day 1, no possible way to not be in debt: as many have pointed out, the government does not function like a business, or a household financially.. never has, never will).

I remember when Al Gore, during the 2000 presidential debate, said this:

“I will keep Social Security in a lockbox, and that pays down the national debt.”

At least he wanted to pay down the national debt. Todays democrats only want to spend us into oblivion.

surely we can tax cut our way out of this right? no? oh yeah, that's all conservatives want to do.

You voted for W didn't you? LOL

Once you figure out that no, something does not have to give, you might realize all your plans involve mass human misery for no benefit.

Uhhh everytime this guy opens his mouth, it involves misery. He has and will continue to vote for the worst people into office, and they will keep making this country miserable, and he will never ever ever ever change. He will always vote for those that are determined to help the very few, and bring misery to everyone else. That's just who he is.

He is a classic irredeemable deplorable.

The top 1% wealth holders in the US (everyone over $10M net wealth essentially) hold a smidge north of $40T. That looks like a pretty fucking good place to start.

If you have an entire field of plums ready to harvest, why are you digging up weeds to sell by the roadside and cutting down half-grown apple trees for wood?

Im torn on a "wealth" tax. It seems like double taxation to me. You are taxed on the income then you are taxed on the value of your holdings. Since I dont have $1 billion dollars, I kind of dont care either way, but the idea bothers me.

(PS.. While I dont understand your analogy, it was creative 🙂 )

I'd be curious to know what percentage of the top 1% actually earned their wealth through income vs inherited and capital gains. I'd wager none of that shit has been taxed nearly as much (either percentage or actual) as an average low-to-middle income 30-something.

The analogy being that America The Beautiful created the ground those 1%'ers grew in, and it's time to harvest.

I do care, this is why I voted for Bush and not Gore. In fact, most people thought that W was a great president.

But I have argued passionately that we must do what we can to stop borrowing more money. So let me ask, why do *you* not care about the debt?

I’d love to see a single post from you that doesn’t have any lies in it. Do you think you are capable of that?

See you can’t stop lying.

FDC holds that opinion because he lives in a bubble devoid of pesky things like facts and numbers, lying to himself is just the start.
