this is what happen when you have more and more sub-forums just to take away traffic from OT.

This.

I think it's that plus some of the mod-nannying that went on, like not allowing any babe threads in ATOT (I'm not knocking the mods, just those who created the rules). The subforums and the nannying were trying to change ATOT into something that might draw in new traffic, but I think all it did was alienate those who regularly posted here. I know the rules have changed since then, but the lost traffic won't instantly (and may never) reappear.

It's much like what happened with the hot deals forum. That forum used to get so much traffic, and then they disallowed posting coupon codes. Posters fled to other sites, and one member even created Fatwallet because of it (I think...I'm not sure). They have since then allowed coupon codes, but the large amount of traffic has long since gone and will never return.

Actually, yes she is just like that.

sad that this is not the norm tbh.... sometimes i think my drive is equivalent to a mans. aim to please, regularly. its the way to be

we need to see some new stuff then. that is what i am trying to say.

i dunno, i think that some of the repeated topics are ok if there is reason to expect the outcome has changed somehow.

also, its sometimes nice to revive things we ever forgot we discussed. or stuff the noobs might wanna know but get it realtime instead of archives

There is nothing new. Thats what i'm trying to say. We've reached the saturation point.

like a relationship? are you saying that all relationships are doomed then?

this is why we need to change things up.

terrible comparison.
spot on comparison.

if you don't keep a relationship fresh and exciting by exploring and enacting new things it's going to get boring.

This isn't a chat room. This is a forum with tens of thousands of users, hundreds of thousands of threads, and millions of posts. its all been done twice.

would be fun to have some kind of chatroom......... or an "anything thread" :)

There's an IRC channel. And all of OT is an "anything thread."

you cant make an "anything" thread, it gets locked.... the topic is nothing... how can that get off topic in an off topic forum? wtf

I think the forums are moderated better than they ever have been in the past, I don't agree with what's done 100%, but it's pretty good now.

I think there are a lot of other factors that are influencing the volume of posts here, the internet is maturing and you can get more specific content elsewhere about nearly every subject.

Is there a car made that doesn't have a forum, sub forum specifically for it? There are a handful for each of the cult cars.

Take HTPC's, there's AVS forums for nearly everything, The Green Button for WMC users, etc...

Anyway, thanks mods for not vacationing me or banning me in the last year or so

And if you don't mind, make Winston quit modding, so I can act up again & not feel ashamed

The babe thread rule is enforced in a ridiculous way. It seems that no picture of an attractive female can exist in a thread without that thread being locked as a "babe" thread. If there is a picture of an unattractive female or a male the thread will be left alone. The thread doesn't even have to be about the attractiveness of the person. It could be about a celebrity on a late night talk show but if that celebrity is female and attractive the thread will be locked.

Basically with console gaming becoming more prevalent, facebook/myspace/twitter, match.com/eharmony for dating, Netflix and a dizzying array of video games (MMORPG's!) people are spending more time on these and less on internet forums. It all comes down to entertainment, and let's face it, we have a crapload more choices today.

Back in AT's heyday when I joined in 2001, all they really had for PC Games were Baldur's Gate, Diablo or FPShooters. While I like FPS's, there's only so much I can take in a day. There's only so much Madden Football one can play, or news to read. There was only ebay, napster/friendster then. Now I spend a lot more time with online RPG's, facebook, netflix, and streaming music. That was probably time I would have spent neffing back in the day... so it's really just that our choices have broadened.

All in all I'm not going to stop posting. AT still has a lot to offer and for the most part people here are pretty intelligent debaters and post some good food for thought.

Babe threads, yes I see no reason not to have them as long as they're labeled as such.
