Is this forum dying? It seems slow(er) and boring as of late. I think the promise of a move to better forum software and then it just not happening is part of the reason.

What can we do to increase activity here?
 
turning all emo...everyone has their 'girlfriend' joining and oddly in the most unlikely of places each and every woman here looks forward to pleasing her man each night, swallows, takes it in any hole willingly and is insatiable.

Times between posts and replies certainly *feels* like there is less volume than what it's been in years past. But I don't have access to any stats that can really back it.

The forums are hostile and nasty nowadays. There's always been an element of that here, but it used to be more in fun than it is now. It seems like most of the current breed of posters exist simply to criticize/cut down/make fun of everyone else.
 
It's definetly different from what it was a few years ago

Maybe we're just running out of things to say, ro maybe the same arguments have been argued plenty of times before.

Or maybe those of us who neffed all day at work a few years ago have more responsibilities in our jobs today, and we don't have the time to stare at an ATOT screen and hit refresh all day.

It does seem less busy. Maybe people are unemployed and can't afford the internet anymore or they are all on 4chan or twitter.

This place is a kiddie pool compared A LOT of sites. If you think people here are mean, cruel, and just generally wretched souls of the human race go check out some of the comment boards on the celebrity sleaze sites.

Hell even the forums dedicated to a freaking Toyota Minivan are more spiteful than here. God help you if you own a Honda Minivan and post there.

As bad as you think this forum may be, it's easily several cuts above many others.

i agree. this offtopic is one of the most civil i've seen. props to the moderators and thanks to the good guys/girls who have hung around.

i'd just hate to see it all go away because interest is waning. we need something to revive it.

i used to post on gotapex.com. i think Apex is actually a member here, and he just seemed to lose interest in his site, and nothing ever changed there. i saw the posting go from decent to a few threads a day, and now i don't even go there anymore - too boring and not much substance. i can see the same thing happening here. 🙁

Google Trends for forums.anandtech.com

So the whole of anandtech (all subforums) has gone from 60k in July 2007 to under 30k at present 🙁

i don't find it nearly as bad as it was when i joined. there certainly is that element though. there are contributors... and then there are just members that seem perpetually miserable. i could rattle off 10 user names off the top of my head that do nothing but flame and cause shit.

i agree. this is one of the main reasons why i dont post anything serious in OT anymore. You pretty much know how the replies are gonna go before you even post...and most of those replies wont be helpful

Looks like that references the main site. I honestly don't know if I've been to the main page more than once or twice (and that was by accident) in the last 5 years.
