Dear Moron,

As I stood behind you in line at Subway today eagerly awaiting the chance to pay for my roasted chicken sandwich with cash (yesterday it was credit card) I couldn't help but notice you spend approximately 8 minutes to pay for your sub. Do you want me to tell you why it took you 8 minutes? Because you're a frigging idiot who still uses their check book for all purchases pretending you still live in 1986. Did you enjoy holding everyone up for 8 minutes as you took your check book out, made out an entry to Subway, dated it, wrote in the price numercially, then in words, and finally signed it?

Have you ever heard of debit? Cash? Credit cards? Yes you have because I saw them in your f**king walet when you took out ID to prove who you were. Did you know that with a credit card you need only give it to the cashier, then about 10 seconds later sign the slip of paper, and be on your way? Awe-inspiring isn't it? Unlike checks using your credit card is free and you might even be earning points. Who would have thought?!

Forever yours,
Skoorb

Believe it or not the check is still the most popular way for cash to exchange hands.. Debits and such are moving up, but aren't expected to pass check usage in the next 10 years.

There's a subway in your area that accepts checks? They would just laugh you out of the ones around here if you pulled out a check book.

Well almost anywhere in canada would laugh you out of the store too, and rightfully so. I haven't seen anyone try and use a check in canada to buy groceries or a movie rental or something in years.

Well, one reason.. although illegal, is that people simply do not have the cash in the account to use just yet... so they write a check that will not clear their account until a couple of days later which is after they have been paid and the cash is safely in their account.

I use my checkbook for paying bills mostly.

I use my debit card a lot, but sometimes have problems with the store->bank connection. So, I carry my checkbook as a backup.

Well, grocery stores are a completely different animal, I see people paying with checks all the time there. Of course they have the debit card things, and a lot of people use those, but of course you have the people that insist on paying with checks.

I only pay with checks for two things, my motorcycle payment, and a loan payment, because they don't offer online bill payment. Everything else I do online, and I only use my credit or debit card or cash when paying for stuff in stores

Dear Skoorb,

If my method of payment bothers you so much, you should have stepped up and offered to pay for both of our subs. On second thought, why don't you just leave them your credit card so they can swipe it for EVERY person who buys a sub. That way nobody will have to dig into their wallets. I'm sorry but I only use my credit cards for major purchases, like a new 48 pack of Depends, or Britney Spears tickets. When I write a check I have foiled the government from following my every footstep through the credit card system.
Think about it.

Forever yours,
Moron.

Same here.

The biggest problem where I live is that most places that you eat will not accept a check or a credit card and you are stuck using cash... all of the time... That sux.

Ah, checks can be mailed, written in advance, given as deposit, and most importantly, juggled. Debit cards aren't nearly as much fun or useful.

or you could use a credit card and not have to pay it for, in my case, 2 months later.

whats better is when theres some FOB in front of you in line, dude asks what kind of subs guy wants, FOB says 1 veggie whatever. dude asks if there is anything else, FOB says no, so dude assembles the sandwich, having to wait for the FOB to stop talking with his friends to figure out if FOB wants tomatoes on that. so finally dude gets done, asks, is that all for you today, and FOB says, and i would like another veggie sub, starting the whole process over again.

At these kinds of places, it should be cash ONLY. Even a dork using a credit card makes me wait too long. And, BTW, WTF needs to use a credit card for a $7 purchase?

Cheques have their uses, but I would never consider using one to buy groceries and the like.

They are handy because you can send them to people, but all my bills I either pay using internet banking or they are simply debited from my account.
Anything I buy using cash or card.

It would piss me off carrying a cheque book around everywhere as well, a card is much more handy.

in the US the federal gov't clears the checks, and can identify you from the routing number at the bottom of the check. so thats out.

and cash makes up the majority of transactions. checks might be a bigger $$ amount, but more purchases are paid with good old green. unless you're a lazy bum like me and card a stick of gum.
