Ok guys, I finally changed my Shipping Preference to UPS under My Account settings. By some reason, this Shipping Preference option is not showing when you login normally and go directly to your account settings (at least it didn't work for me - I could only see "Preferred Shipping Address" and "Secondary Shipping Address" options. Well, I was able to finally get that third option "Shipping Method" to show up. Here are the steps that I used:
I went to Dell main page, clicked on Support on the very top, typed my email and pass at "My Account Sign in", clicked on "Sign in to Personalized Support" to login, on the next page where it asks for Service Tag number, I clicked on Customer Care, then clicked on Main Page on the left, under My Account, then click on Shipping Preferences on the right, and now I got three options including Shipping Method... Hope it works for you guys....

Does anyone know if the rebate for the hd would be valid even if you opted for the 80 gig upgrade for $19 more instead of the free upgrade?

It does work. Just make sure you follow the steps to the letter.
First go here:
https://support.dell.com/register.aspx
When you get to the page, do you see email and password fields for login, or it greets you "Welcome so-and-so" on the top (as if you already logged in)? If you logged in already from previous session, you won't get that Shipping Preference option. Only when you logged in from scratch at this page https://support.dell.com/register.aspx, you get that third option. So, login AGAIN (logoff if you have to), and then follow the steps in the oroginal post. It should work.

Yeah, I bought one for my dad but I really wish I would have bought another for myself. Just left it at the bare configuration.

Ok, I had a hard time getting this right, but finally got it. I tried exactly what t0lik said, but didn't work. Try going to the "education" link at dell.com. Then click on the "higher education students,..." link. Next click on "My account login". After you sign in, if you click on the shipping preferences, there should be a third "shipping method" link. Well it worked for me....hope it does for you too. I changed my method of delivery to "Ground" just to be safe.

I don't know if this was mentioned or not... I skimmed through all 10 pages...

How is everyone going to be sending in their rebates?
There is a lot at stake here and I definitely want some kind of proof that Dell has recieved my rebates.

Is delivery confirmation good enough?
Should we use return reciepts?

Is there any sort of a deal on these?

Thanks.

BTW... I got my 8250 on Friday... its great

I'm thinking of using delivery confirmation too.... will they void our rebate for using this method?
I have friend complained that they didn't receive the mail-in-rebate for the deal on notebook..... And this time is 5 rebates..... I?m worry...

I just spoke with CSR regarding my shipping issue and also asked her about all the rebates. She said that Early Bird OR Holiday Special rebate can be used, but not both at the same time... Hm... is it true? What did you guys hear from Dell regarding these two rebates?

With this much money involved, I would suggest certififed mail. 3 bucks or so I think is what it costs to send each one. This way, you know you signed for what. With DC, you only know if it was delivered or not.

I spoke with a CSR on Friday (Shawna) who check on all of the rebates available for the 8250 for me, including the Early Bird and the Holiday. She informed me that allwould apply to my 8250. Getting the early bird and the holiday shouldn't be a problem. If you read the fine print on both of those rebates there isn't anything on there that would exclude you from using both...

Dell CSR's aren't even in charge of the rebates.

But by the wording, you should be able to get all 5. If by some chance I don't get every one of them, I will argue with the rebate company until I get them.

Just got my package today and the shipping confusion kinda detracted from what is still a killer deal.

1) Signed up for FedEx.
2) Ordered from Dell at about 10 PM. For the courier I specifically typed in FedEx and in the method field I specifically typed in Ground.
3) Went back into FedEx to enable ground after I read that you HAD to enable ground.
4) Got my package today and I am looking at an $80 bill from FedEx for 2nd day air. It didn't matter that I just typed in Ground for the ones that are curious and my account number is nine digits. Maybe that made the difference.

Also, looking at the thread some people ordered the upgraded HDD and/or memory. I wonder if they knew that they would be voiding at least one of their rebates.

Call Dell and get a refund for your shipping charges. It's their fault that they used the wrong shipping method.

This deal ended on the 27th, sort of. When the rebates for the 200 system wore off on the 26th, on the 27th they introduced free shipping and $150 instant savings. Making it a hotter deal?

No, because on the 26th not only did the $200 rebate expire, but so did the $140 rebate and $170 rebate.

ddin't the otehr rebates expire on the 27th? I meant they took away the $200 deal, and added a instant savings and free shipping.
