Has anybody else gotten theirs? Is it really a 1-year version? I was looking at a past thread and somebody says that OEM versions are sometimes 90-day trials.

I just picked up two copies for the other two machines. Thanks for the heads up.

EDIT
I am posting from my wife's machine where I don't have the ads blocked. The ads on the left for NSW 2003 are all priced higher than the one in this post. :)

LOL! I didn't even notice that. Silly google ads. Well at least it matches the webpage in this case heh.

I have gotten mine and can indeed confirm that its the ONE YEAR anti virus. I waited to receive it and install it to confirm this before I posted, because I have heard the same thing about some. In fact I mention this in the first post and a couple other places in the thread if I recall correctly ;)

Mine took like a week and a half. Kinda long, but then it was post office. Other peoples (see post above mine) have been faster.

thanks, I just ordered myself a copy. I hope that either goback 3 or Ghost will do what Windows XP home backup ASR cannot do due to microsoft's disabling it.

I've recently been bombed with the mumu.a, Trojan horse and backdoor trojan. NAV seems to delete

them but then I get reinfected just being connected to the internet. Total scans with the latest

definitions don't stop this.

What the heck? Someone has my number I guess or there is a registry entry that gets sending out invitations.

I used NAV for about 2 years, until a newly purchased version of Norton SystemWorks 2002 really buggered up my system. Didn't like the Norton Ghost and SpeedDisc (sp?) at all. Ended up having to reformat. When re-installing NAV, I was denied access to the updates because it claimed my version had expired. I had used it for only 4 months, should have had 8 months left.

I jumped the NAV ship and joined with the crew at AVG Antivirus. Easy to use and update, much less intrusive to your system than NAV, and - here's the kicker - FREE for life.

It's free, at least worth the time to download it and see if you like it. :)

Oh yeah, I've been virus free since using it, 7 viruses quarantined and removed without issue. :)

same thing happened to me, its like its worthless. Cool I know I have a virus, but if I can't do anything with it, like delete it or quarantine it, what does it matter? I booted into safe mode and deleted the virus, but its like wtf? Norton can't have an option to restart and delete the virus before starting windows or something, wtF?!?!?!

You guys must not be allowing your updates to keep things current.

This is a great deal. As long as these guys are not selling "backup" copies.

the only time i've seen it not able to quarantine is if you install the program AFTER getting the virus.

it's better to install the AV on another machine and run the AV on the infected HD w/o booting from it. (in other words put it in the 2nd machine as a slave.)

I did this the other day and NAV 2002 (just live-updated) found and deleted or quarantined around 180 files, but there were 2 or 3 it couldn't. One was a DLL. I decided, since we weren't booting from it, that DLL would have no effect on things. I was just copying data from the drive. That done, we reformatted it.

I got mine yesterday and used the Ghost application to clone HD partitions. This thing is FAST! The night before, it took MaxtorBlast3 (or whatever it's name - the software that comes with new Maxtor HDs) between 6 and 8 hours to transfer 40 GB of WAVs from a 60 GB partition. Ghost did the same task in 34 minutes.

I have not tried to install AntiVirus yet - will do that after my current AV expires in 2 weeks - but Ghost alone was worth $12 for me. And no rebates to deal with.

It says it requires windows XP home/pro?

This will still work with windows ME, right?

If someone can confirm this (i doubt it's an XP-only program, so i'm probably being excessivley paranoid here) then i'm on this...might actually start buying legit software if i keep seeing deals like this :)

Correct, I ordered 3 copies when I ordered this, and I used one on the family win98SE computer, so it should work for ME as well.

To those several people who have mentioned having to reformat to get rid of viruses... after you identified what virus you had, did you try some of the highly detailed manual removal instructions that are in the virus databases at places like norton and mcaffee? Many viruses that are difficult to remove have special FREE tools availible for download as well to clean only specific viruses.

To the guy who was saying it claimed he had 4 months left:
Did you actually reformat your windows partition? Or just reinstall windows? I had a similar problem when I was setting up a computer for my grandma. I accidently set the computer date to a year in the past, so when I changed it to the correct date, it said it was expired. A reinstall of windows didn't fix it. So what I did was a complete reformat and them reinstall, and then it had the proper 12 months of NAV updates. I'm guessing it puts the expiration data into the registry somewhere. Since there are no product keys, there's really no way for symantec to track you, other than relying on the program to track itself in windows registry or somewhere on the hard drive.

Yeah I love ghost. You were smart BTW, I didn't make a backup and lost a harddrive. Oh well.
