I just got one.
I am contemplating WHS on this, and have read over the unattended install guidelines. My only concern is recovery.
What do I do if something goes wrong and I need to recover the system? Can this be done with a headless system.
I intend on having alternate backups of importnat material on the system, but I would rather not have to completely rebuild the system if I have a failure.
Thanks.
An E2200 2.2GHz dual core and 2GB DDR2 are on their way to help speed things up a bit.

The good thing about WHS is that if the system fails, you can pull the drives and put them into ANY Windows system to retrieve the data if needed. There are also methods of reinstalling WHS without destroying the data as well. I don't have the link handy, but I know it's there.

I do need to play with my router (linksys wrt54g-tm) to get access via remote desk top so I can better get into the server and install some other apps and to verify I am running with the best device drivers. Well a fine learning experience so far.
I shared that concern and thus did something fairly unusual.
I bought the flexi-PCIe x1->x16 adapter and used an el-cheap nVidia card as a head for setup and installation. The unusual bit is that I enabled the "RAID1" mode in BIOS and installed WHS onto a pair of mirrored 500GB SATA drives - which took a little doing. My data drives (2x 2TB) are NOT mirrored, relying instead on WHS's file-level-mirroring (aka Folder Duplication).
My theory is that if a data drive fails, WHS handles that reasonably well by most accounts - therefore I'm going to rely on it for that (thus adding a lot of drive flexibility). If a system drive fails, then I'm relying on the BIOS/Software "RAID" (mirroring) to cover me - so I can *HOPEFULLY* just shutdown, swap out the bad drive, and reboot. I'm keeping the flexi-adapter around just-in-case though!

Where did you find the flex adapter?
Thing is, I only have a network that has a few macbooks on it, so is a WHS pointless/impossible to setup without a windows PC?

I would have rather had the whs they apparently stripped off these units.
anybody have a good/cheap source for whs?
The SS4200-EHW doesn't come with WHS, never has - never will. It's hardware only. The SS4200-E comes with the EMC DOM and is thus fully functional (minus HDDs) out of the box.the legend micro units are the scaleo marked ones, with a cd-r of the intel client and a dom thrown in.

Does just a 1gb memory upgrade count? It ran fine on the Celeron 420 (at least before whatever blew up blew up in my unit).Has anybody loaded WHS on an non upgraded version (i.e. original CPU and memory)?
Wonder how it stacks up performance wise. I upgraded mine to a 2220 and 2gig before loading WHS but have another one I'd like to load WHS on without the added expense.
Thanks. Just put a 1gig stick in my second unit. Is there a way to see if the EMC SW actually sees one gig? I've gone through all the screens and can't find squat.
Also, can I just remove the DOM, put the WHS USB drive in and go from there or do I need to remove the partitions from all the drives first?
Thanks
