Well I got the deal, and bought a regular kindle and a fire hdx... Damnit Amazon. For the record I have Prime, don't have a kindle but have kindle books (android app), and average about 85 orders a year.
I got this
Limited-time offer: Get Kindle from $69 $49 or Kindle Paperwhite with Wi-Fi from $119 $99. Limit 1 per customer.
I buy tons of stuff from them and am on my 2nd kindle keyboard, I have both a Kindle HD and Kindle HDX, wonder what triggers the deal?
I think the "select" customer sale is now over, and now they are doing a universal sale that is $20 dollars off the normal price.
At least all these Kindle sales are making me hopeful that the rumored Paperwhite upgrade is actually coming soon.

I thought about this, however, at some point I figure an eReader is going to simply hit that "good enough" point I don't care about the new version. I took a heavily discounted chance and picked up the Paperwhite. In the few days I've had it, I love it. I can't imagine any real improvements. Maybe less screen flash on change or better battery life. Neither of which particularly annoys me.
I read a ton of books, so I would pay full price for a 300 DPI e-ink Kindle.
Not that I'm doubting you, but I would like to know why. I'm a avid reader as well, and it seems to me that my Kindle Touch already has a higher DPI then any of the paperback books I've read. Are we really getting that much improvement at this point?

Those are pretty much the usual upgrades: Better refresh rate (faster page turns), better contrast (darker text to more resemble print), and a better resolution screen. I'm not sure if they've been improving battery life as they've always lasted so long I'd never notice.
I also really like the paperwhite as it sits now, but there's a lot of things you didn't realize you wanted until you have it. I dinged my screen which you can't see unless I'm reading in the dark using the light, so I'll probably get the new one at full price whenever it shows up.
