dont worry guys, its just USPS tracking system is pathetic...but you can be sure that your item arrives, you just wont be able to track it...

This happens a lot. Often, your package will arrive before the tracking info. gets into the USPS system. Kinda pointless sometimes.

Yeah, I know. Lot of times I'll send something with DC and they'll recieve it before you can see it on the website...

so true, USPS tracking is utterly worthless

well, if you printout your own DC online and then bring your package to the post office, they will often not scan it untill it arrives at a destination.....pretty stupid if you ask me

Atleast its free... 😉

I did express shipping and got confirmation from the USPS tracking system that they had been 'notified' and to expect the package.

I guess it works out to about the same shipping time but it was only $3 more so I don't mind.

Hmmm... interesting. I think they're shipping these out of a VA warehouse. About how far from there are you, and did you use express shipping? I ordered mine 3/18, a day after most folks here, and I'm hoping it'll show up here (NYC) tomorrow.

(I suspect that I'll be calling them to get that $3 back. Not that it's worth my time... but it's just the principle!)

Well, I talked to them today and they assured me that it WAS shipped out on the 18th and it was just USPS's stupid system that was saying they got it on the 19th. I'm expecting/hoping to receive it tomorrow. I live in Nashville, TN so we'll see.

Would love to hear from some of ya'll who have already received it. Tell us your location, if you paid for express, and when exactly you ordered.

Ordered: March 17 4:10am
Shipping Method: Express
Location: Nashville, TN

Just got mine a few minutes ago. First thing I did was pull it out of the box, put in the battery, and plug it in to start charging. They say you need to charge it for 24 hours before running it.

I'm wondering, though, if I could run it off of AC power before then. I'm thinking that when it's running off of AC power it MIGHT still be charging the battery, but probably not as fast as it normally would. One would think that as long as it didn't DRAW power from the battery it'd be ok to use it on AC during the 24 hour period, although if using the PDA on AC causes the battery to charge slower it could extend this inital charging period.

It's a new toy so of course I want to play with it. Who wants to wait an extra day to turn it on?

Any suggestions? I definitely don't want to shoot myself in the foot and screw up my battery by not giving it a full starting charge, but then again the manual says the battery should only take 3-4 hours to charge so why the 24 hour beginning charge?

I hate USPS. 🙁

Mine shipped on the 18th. According to USPS crap track, it arrived in Jax, Fla. yesterday at a "shipping partner". So what's a "shipping partner" ?? A third party that delays delivery and get paid to do so ??? 🙁

Three things:

A) The battery pack is Lithium-Ion. Takes 2.5-3 hours to charge. It's the backup pack - the NiCad - that takes 24 hours.

B) The "express" shipping most likely meant USPS Priority Mail vs. USPS Parcel Post.

C) I got mine today (ordered Tuesday). HSN SUCKS ASSHAT for packing. The Sharp box was inside a shipping box without any packing materials. Goddess knows how badly it was damaged by the clowns at USPS drop-kicking it without padding.

My Wireless card won't be here till Monday, so I can hold out till then... 😉

That's disturbing. Hopefully mine will arrive in a good condition. Your description makes me remember the got (chocolate) milk commercials where a boy marks his package "Fragile" and ships his chocolate milk to himself so the milk will return to him shook well (after getting drop kicked, thrown, etc by the postal company).

I love that commercial 🙂

i got mine today too.

it's so nice 🙂 i am charging it up as we speak.

i cna't wait to play w/it!

i got my $30 wirelss CF card from compusa already so i am ready to go!

FINALLY, it has arrived. 🙂

No padding in the outer box. The Zaurus bax was flopping around inside. Good thing the outer box doesn't appear to have been abused. If UPS had delivered it, I'd probably be rma-ing it right now. 🙁

Ditto. And it came in one piece too from what I've seen. I've been using it for about an hour now and installing programs on it and such--this thing is a beauty. It's much more portable than the pictures make it look too. So sleek, so sexy and it runs the penguin. 😉

Anybody notice on their 5500 that the srceen is off center. I bought two of them and both screens seem to be off center. I am trying to figure out if this normal or are these irregulars.

Also what is the best compatable Wireless CF card for these. Any good websites to downlaod programs from?

I got the NETGEAR MA701 Compact Flash Wireless Card and I am having troubles. I have tested it with my own access point and it connects and I can even see a graph of the signal to noise ratio, etc. But when I have it set to obtain IP from DHCP i get an ip of 0.0.0.0. I have tested this with my campus's Access Point and I have got the same problem. I can see the Access point but can't grab an IP. If i just try to "Steal" an ip that is not being used which works fine on my other computers I can not ping anything. Anyone have any ideas or similar problems? This card is supposed to be really easy to use with the Zaurus, but I guess I have bad luck. Also, I have tried it with the default ROm as well as openzaurus from sourceforge.

It is so sweet, I just can't wait to get wireless working!

FYI, I bought the Ambicom 802.11b from CompUSA ($30 AR) and it worked just fine after I set the SSID and WEP.

I did notice that the only options in the Zaurus were 48bit and 128bit. I was worried it wouldn't work with my 64bit encryption, but apparently it's the same as 48bit...at least it works. 🙂

1. The screen is off center, and this is normal -- it has to do with the layout of the backlight.

2. It seems that the CompUSA ambicom was the best deal -- glad I got in on that when I did!

Also...

3. 64MB Sandisk SD card at officedepot for $25 after coupon (look for $15 off coupon links) ($39.99 before coups)

4. My Officedepot has batteries for the 5500, but they're $60! Not listed online, so I can't use that $15 off coupon again. Any good deals out there?

Jeff

for those who got the ambicom card....

other than setting the wireless settings, did u have to do anything else on your settings to make it work?
