finally came today

charging, guide says 24 hours but i guess everyone else says you can turn it on after 3 or so

You can actually just plug it into the AC and turn it on immediately. 🙂 It'll charge while you use it too.

You guys are reading into wrong. It says it takes 30 hours for the backup battery to charge on either AC Power or the Full Operating Battery. So as long as you don't let the operatin battery die, you should be fine...

with a 1GB microdrive, you can play a whole movie with that thing 😀

Sharp does NOT recommend the microdrives due to heat, although many have reported no problems. Also, since the screen is only 320x240, then you could very easily resize the divx file to a smaller size and fit it on a 256MB CF card. (or even less!)

So, anybody willing to part with theirs, without going the e*bay route?

I can fit half a movie on my 128MB SD card, a 256 would be perfect.

Anybody else still waiting for their order to arrive? I purchased mine on the 18th before the deal went dead and am still waiting. I did use standard shipping though (am in the Seattle, WA area). Order status shows as shipped, but no useful tracking info to be found.

I used my Zaurus for a few days with the standard software and, although I see a LOT of room for improvement when comparing the standard applications to palm software, I like it.

After using the standard ROM for a few days, I flashed it with Open Zaurus. That was super easy. Open Zaurus is looking nifty except I can't sync with my WinXP laptop using the cradle like I could with the sharp. I think I may go back to the Sharp ROM for now for that functionality unless I find a compelling reason not to.

One of my primary reasons for getting the Zaurus (other than the sweet deal and I needed a PDA) was to go wardriving. Unfortunately, I haven't found a lot of help in getting to that point. If there's anyone else here who gets into that give me a holler.

Yes, I liked openZaurus too but I too couldn't sync with XP after I reflashed it. I'm now using the Zynergy ROM which is basically the Sharp one with some bulk removed (Java for example) and a couple minor touchups. And it syncs. 🙂

Damn, found a live pixel.

invisible on white but blue on black :-(

I think I might have one of these, too. I've cleaned the screen, so it's not a speck of dirt or anything. It's a tiny little white dot, only visible in black, but it's not exactly blue on black. It reflects the backlight. If the blacklight dims, this tiny white dot dims, too, and when the backlight turns off you can't see it at all. It doesn't seem to be in the LCD screen, but a little above it (I notice this when looking at it from the the side - it's like on top of the LCD, but not in it). It's like a speck of dirt reflecting the back light; on top of the LCD but underneath the protective plastic screen. Can anybody tell me what this is?

Also, how do I get rid of "Unsafe removal of device" message everytime I lift it off the sync port? I know it doesn't matter, but Win2K keeps on having it pop up for "SL Series (NDIS 5)" device. Thanks for giving this PDA newbie some answers. 🙂

Finally got it yesterday... It was packed ok, it was in a smallish box, but with popcorn all around... (someone had me worried saying theirs was just throw in a box with nothing).

I was playing with it a bit in the dock (while it charged), I can't seem to get the netgear CF wifi card to work 🙁
I could trouble shoot it a lot better if I could get to console, but the default rom doesn't seem to have a link anywhere... I'll just have to wait for my cf media to come till I can flash it with OZ...

You must be special then. Because mine came without any 'popcorn'. It was just the Sharp box sitting inside a larger brown box. I guess they heard the complaints from people who had already recieved it and made adjustments.

And yeah, OZ is nice. 🙂

Mine came with packing peanuts, too. As for getting to the console, go into the settings tab and click on "Shutdown" one of the options is "Terminate Qtopia". That will lead into the console. You have five seconds to hit the "/?" button next to the spacebar on the keyboard. Then you'll get a menu of options, choose "a". Tada you're at the console... you localhost login is "root", of course. Scary enough, there's no password setting. You can change it, though. To get back into Qtopia type "exit" at the console. By the way, does anybody else want some sort of "Official Zaurus Thread" in the General Hardware forum? Becuase I do... there's just SO much to play with, and so much to learn! 🙂

I think a new "Official Zaurus Tread" would be great. Please let me know if you start one.

Thanks

I just got a message on my answering machine, telling me to call CSR @ HSN, 1-800-284-3900, seems that they advertized a 1700mah battery was included, & it only came with a 900mah battery, they offered me a $20 credit when I told them I didn't want to return it😀

😀
