You need to dl the opengl wrapper version 1.1 and throw it in the bin folder. If you are running cat 3.7 then you need to grab Brians zipped atioglxx.dll file and place it in the bin folder and walllah. Re-name the Fairy.exe to Quake3.exe for extra eye candy.;)

Use the links provided in the thread.

Ok, I have the nv_badge.dds file in the textures directory and the demosN.bmp file in the Bin directory. Seems to be working fine for me.

Right, but how do you "launch" the demo? I looked in the nvidia control panel etc... didn't see anything there. Maybe I"m overlooking something obvious here.

My dds file must have got corrupted as I do remember opening it. I wonder if I need the original bmp that I replaced. I think I will remove those files and unzip the files again and see what happens if not I will uninstall the whole program and start fresh

You can launch it from the start menu. Look above in the area where windows updates program is and you should see a folder called nvidia demos.

Ah,

Thanks.... looks like I can't run it since it requires an FX GF card... and fat chance I will be buying one of those after all the HL ATI DX9 shaders threads!! ;)

Oh well, bummer that

according to his sig he's sporting a TI4200 (like me)...

with news of the Half-Life 2 delay, as much as I'd like a fancy pretty game that can tide me over until Doom 3, I guess this gives nVidia to get back on top of their game.. (heh, so thats what they call a pun ;)) and get the NV38 out and distributed, hopefully that will cure a few problems. That's gonna be last call for a good nVidia card then im jumping ship :(

Don't bet on it the boys over at Nvidia are claiming that their not just a graphic card company. It appears the NV38 quite simular to NV35 jumping ship and it's way to early to throw in the towel.

here's some ULTRA high res shots of dawn :)
For the 3200x5106, I ran horizontal span in nview to span dawn accross my dual monitors at 3200x1200, and I took 4 screenshots and compiled them in photoshop. It doesn't look perfect because when you pan down, it zooms in, so I had to do some editing to get it to be in one piece...
the second one is just a single shot in vertical span.. one 1600x1200 on top of another, to give 1600x2400
Dawn in LIFE SIZE 3200x5106 :Q
Dawn without the choppy edits 1600x2400

It supposedly works better on ATI cards. You need an OpenGL wrapper to get it working:
yes it works better on ati cards than geforcefx5800ultra... 5900 runs dawn far far better than ati cards.... I owned the 9700pro and the geforcefx5900ultra and non ultra.. the gffx5900ultra runs it over 2x faster...

Cheers!
LOL.. yeah that's the most intensive demo ever made... it requires at least 1GB of ram.. not 512MB... I have 512MB ram.. the demo took like 3 minutes to load for me! :Q and it kept freezing for 30 seconds to load everything when I move to a new area... I ran it on my geforcefx 5900 ultra 256MB

Hey Brian I uninstalled my dawn demo re-installed it but I only get the ATI logo when its loading. I wonder if my problem occured during extraction? I extracted the demosN.bmp to the bin folder and it asked me if I wanted to replace the one that was there but when I extracted the nv_badge.dds file to the userinterface folder it just went there there without replacing anything. Is there a file that needs to be removed to get rid of the Nvidia logo?

It might be my .ZIP file then. I've replaced it with another file on my FTP. Try downloading it again. The .bmp should be in the bin folder, the .dds should be in the textures folder.

When I try to run my fairy.exe, to get the Dawn demo to run, I get an error message that reads:

This program requires an NVIDIA GeForceFX-class GPU or better to run.
Unsupported features:
NV_point_sprite

I tried using both opengl DLLs the version 10 and 11, but neither work.
Suggestions?

I have an ATI Radeon 9800.

If your running cat 3.7 you have to grab Brian's atioglxx.dl file from a previous catalyst version and stick it in the bin folder along with the open GL wrapper ver 1.1 to get the eye lashes.

Brian I got the ATI logo to work correctly as I had it in the wrong folder (userinterface) instead of the textures folder. I have a question when you upgrade to catalyst version 3.8 once it gets released do you use driver cleaner to remove any of the Nvidia files ro do they not cause any conflicts since it's just a program?

I never bother with any of these 3rd party utilities. I simply use the deinstall function built into Windows (Add/Remove Programs) and then do a manually sweep via REGEDIT if necessary (which is rare). If I'm just going from one Cat version to another, vice Detonator > Catalyst, then I don't even bother with the later part. Been doing it this way for years now. Haven't had a problem so far, unless of course the OS was messed up and I had to do a refresh anyway.

Thanks, does the dusk demo work with the OPGL wrapper or does one need to be written for that one also?

Have any ATI user's encountered any conflicts with this dawn program when you have upgraded to a newer catalyst version and how long have you been running dawn? Do the 9700 PRO demos run fine on the 9800 hardware, sounds like its a given but thought I would ask.

Hey anyone know about the gamma error? Whenever I start the dawn demo (also happens in Planetside) my gamma gets turned up really bright. I can correct it in windows by going to display properties -> advanced -> color (immediately switches back when the tab opens), but I can't do it from within the dawn demo.

Running cat 3.7s on an FIC 9700 Pro. Thanks

Just a guess... maybe because it wasn't designed to run on ATI hardware? =)

I am not experiencing any gamma issues, actually the dawn demo runs better on my ATI 9800 PRO than my father in law EVGA 5900 Ultra. Must be da shader's.
