I know, all you guys already saw the fairy demo but I just saw it the first time today. Holy crap, imagine games with such graphics, that would rock. How far away are we from games like that?

Not very far at all. The generation of games after Doom 3 and Half Life 2 will be sporting visuals like that. Say, 1 to 1.5 years from now before the first games of that crop begin to come out.

The screenshots look awesome but before I go and download this I want to know if I should bother. I've got a Sapphire 9800 (now pro). Since this is an Nvidia demo is it going to work well/at all on ATI hardware?

i don't think that wrapper works with the 3.7 drivers though.

That's not a problem, just take the opengl driver (atioglxx.dll) from an earlier Cat version and dump it into the same folder as the Dawn .exe. The demo will then use this driver instead of the one installed with Cat 3.7.

When genetic engineering reaches the mainstream consumer market, and you obtain a hair from the girl of your choice and splice it with an insect. Just hope that you get it right on the first try, because a wrong combination might be a little off-putting. :)

I get a "Unsupported features: NV_point_sprite" error with a 9500NP softmodded to a 9700. I did put the opengl32.dll into the bin file.

That's not a problem, just take the opengl driver (atioglxx.dll) from an earlier Cat version and dump it into the same folder as the Dawn .exe. The demo will then use this driver instead of the one installed with Cat 3.7.

Does anyone know if this will fix my problem?

(sigh) I'm running the 3.7 Cat's on a fresh load so I don't have a previous version of that .dll. Oh well, enough time invested (shift-del). Probably more beautiful things I can find to drool over on the web with a lot less effort. ;) :p :Q

I remember the Radeon's Ark demo. That was pretty amazing when it came out, and it looks to me like only now do we have games that look as good as that. So I think that it will take a long time for games to start looking like the Dawn demo.

Not thinking clearly are we?

Remember, Half-Life and Unreal are only 5 years old, and they look HORRID compared to today's games. Photorealism in appearance is only about 4 - 6 years off. Ask Tim Sweeney or John Carmack.

True interactive photorealism, involving completely lifelike physics, randomness, animation, etc is still a good ways out there. But games will look like movies within the next 5 years. I'd bet money on it.

You don't notice something conspicuously "missing" from Dawn's attire?
