Even if it is a direct port, I can't imagine that it will run as poorly as it did on ps3 and 360. It ran like monkeybutt :( Console players didn't know any better though.

I am sure they knew better, they just couldn't do anything about it.

Oh, and it looks like the folks over at the NeoGAF forums are already working on a mod that enables true custom resolutions.

It's funny how it took some community modder only a few hours to make this - before the game is even released - and yet, the actual developers who had months to port this game didn't bother.

Edit: According to the guy, the mod literally only took him "23 minutes" to do. So not even an hour, not even half.

i dont get it...what is what the modder did in that pic?

He modded it so the internal framebuffer renders the game at your native resolution. That's it. No textures were changed, but the edges are much smoother. Notice how it doesn't look like cat-shit smeared on your screen (aka like an upscaled console game).

Compare it to the original screenshots in the link I posted before that. The difference is pretty huge.

sharp, but it'll take months for high res textures to come out.

Up to the community to do what the dev team should've done in the first place...

Hmm. Depending on how easy this is to implement, this may mean I could pick up the game. Thank you PC game modders...

And people wonder why we prefer to game on the PC. Not many problems mods can't fix :p

Beautiful to see the community doing so much before the game is even released. But still....this is infuriating. I realize FROM isn't actually a PC developer....but if one guy can get a feature into a game in an afternoon, why exactly can't they?

While the initial fix only took a few minutes, the modder is still tweaking it so it can be released publicly. He just recently started a new thread and has an early version of the fix available for download.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=488240

Perhaps by the time it releases tonight, he'll have an updated version up, or soon afterward.

There are a few reasons they might not have. First, there could be a area in the game that breaks rendering like that and they didn't have the time to find the problem. Second, making the change, they would then have to do a lot of testing to make sure it is stable on a lot of cards and they probably didn't have the time and/or resources to do that.

Honestly, I think the developer had to have been lazy with it. I could understand not implementing flashy graphics as that's extra work, but you already have to size the fucking buffers when you initialize your graphics. How is it that hard to add in custom buffer/frame sizes? I think some users would even accept having to restart the game for a resolution change to take affect (it's slightly easier/lazier to do it that way).

God damn that is one ugly as hell game. D:

Looks like something from 2004 for the love of god.

But if the gameplay it still good then I'll pick it up when it's cheaper.

OK, it's up.

Not event the first monster, and this is a terribly bad port.

Button prompts are locked for X360 controller. Doesn't adjust for keyboard at all.

Worse, the bloody mouse cursor is *always* visible.

Graphics are as muddy as the screen shots lead on.

This is not looking good.

Can't rebind keys with numbers, OR with mouse buttons. WTH.

If you have a 360 pad, use that.

I don't use a gamepad if it's at all avoidable. Even in games where everybody agrees it's gamepad oriented, I'm better with the keyboard and mouse. Plus, I could just play it on my PS3 if I wanted to do that.

It's beside the point though. I'll tolerate a lot in a port.....but this is flat out the worst port of any console game I've seen in years. I don't think I've ever seen a game where you couldn't rebind mouse button 2.

So what you're saying is someone needs to come up with a keymapping wrapper for the game, then wait for all the community texture patching mods and this will be a great game.

I kind of expected this. I decided not to buy the game because of GFWL, but despite that, I was hoping they'd at least do a half way decent porting job. Hearing that keys can't even be rebinded is very telling of the effort (or lack thereof) that was spent on this. Oh well. Keep making your console games guys, I have a feeling this ones gonna be a financial flop..

Yeah, look guys.

I've now bought this game twice - I'm not hating for the sake of hating.
But it's an astonishingly bad port of a great game.

Save your money.

I applied the fix from the NeoGAF dude and not only does it look better, it also feels a lot smoother, though I still think there is something odd going on. I don't feel like I'm getting the frames I should be getting. Before I applied the patch I dipped to 15 fps on the first boss and I don't think this game should cripple the 7970.

Wikipedia says this company not only made a crap-ton of games, since like 1995, but they also ported 2 PC games, one in 2009 (ninja blade)...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/From_Software#PlayStation

...Yeah ... somehow I doubt they can attribute this porting quality to inexperience.
