Maybe his rationalization was correct, maybe it wasn't, but the ensuing piss fest is exactly what I was talking about in my post in that thread.

Guys....seriously...all of us need to try and elevate the level of discussion here. I know we have all been guilty of dragging things into the gutter, emotions do that, but we need to do our best to keep this forum from turning into something that looks like it is frequented by 12 year olds. If we can't keep it on at least a semi intelligent level in here this section of the forum will be no better than OT and all the damn YAGT crap we see daily over there. Please....please try to listen to what others have to say and don't just attack, attack, attack without even considering for a moment what they have to say. Sure we don't all have the same party affiliation, beliefs, etc...but we can all be civil to one another, respect each others opinion, and try to act like adults. Many of us complain about the way our elected officials act, but how can we expect them to somehow rise above the fray when we can't even do it ourselves?

Like you have room to talk. Your practice of 'fixing' other people's posts is part of the problem. If you have no respect for people's opinions what do you expect?

Oh get over yourself. I'm not the first person to "fix" a post. It's meant as a joke more than anything else. Jeez...

If the purpose of your thread is to encourage actions that keep the discussion civil and centered on the topic, your not being the first to engage in it hardly makes it a tactic that is consistent with your purpose.

One more time.......the "fixing" of posts is something that is done here a lot. It it meant usually as more of a joke than anything else. Good grief man....you get bent out of shape about some silly things.

Back on topic, I totally agree that everyone should make an effort to have their posts be civil. Posting along the line "You are a fvcking tool" or "typical neocon/lib idiot" do absolutely NOTHING to persuade others of the wisdom of your views-which after all, is the main purpose of political discussion.

Before hitting the Reply to Topic button we should all ask "Does this post say anything informative or potentially persuasive, or is it just venting?"

On a related point, we should all drop the outrageous responses later labeled as sarcasm. Sarcasm does not come across as such, as a general rule, in relatively anonymous internet postings. Most often than not, it comes off as a stupid posting reflecting poorly upon the poster-not the intended effect. Save your sarcasm for bull sessions with your buddies.

Shinerburke is a good man, so I'm not too worried about his occasional "fixing". We have to be able to have some fun here! If anything, the nastiest fixing I've seen has been in ATOT. The first fixing I recall seeing was by the always-hilarious Fausto, who always does it in a clearly lighthearted way.

Actually I called fixers usuallyunoriginal and not you specifically. First you have to determine you are usual and then stipulate that you are among that class of people I called unoriginal to be fair to my position. :D It is very important for our psychic development to see that we all to easily grab arrows out of the air to stick into our hearts that were not really meant for us. A huge portion of human interaction is based on the erroneous belief that we have been insulted when in fact we haven't. This is of course meant for the general edification and not directed specifically at you, shiner. We are all, all too guilty of this.

My dear Lazy8s, allow me to present you with a saying that has become, so to speak, a corner stone and foundation upon which the edifice known as Moonbeam was erected:

"Try to please others and someone will be offended. Please yourself and somebody will be offended."

If you will meditate on this saying day in and day out till all the implications are absorbed into your bones like the smell of garbage is into the skin of the garbage man, you will discover a north star of perfect brilliance even on cloudy nights and so navigate your life unerringly through the maze of battering and desultory influences that attempt to blow you off course.

No thread can fall so far apart that it can't be stitched back together by a KUM BA YAH.

Don't forget the holding hands part. Mine are sweaty though........and apparently your palms are hairy (from pleasing yourself). Not a good combination. Although I would imagine that it would be a good character builder.
