Damn it's sad when a thread falls apart due to a pissing match

I came to the forums this morning to check out this thread since I had posted in it last night. What do I find? It's locked because it turned into a pissing match. In this instance it looks as though Cad was attacked by a couple of people and they were refusing to listen to what he had to say. Maybe his rationalization was correct, maybe it wasn't, but the ensuing piss fest is exactly what I was talking about in my post in that thread.

Guys....seriously...all of us need to try and elevate the level of discussion here. I know we have all been guilty of dragging things into the gutter, emotions do that, but we need to do our best to keep this forum from turning into something that looks like it is frequented by 12 year olds. If we can't keep it on at least a semi intelligent level in here this section of the forum will be no better than OT and all the damn YAGT crap we see daily over there. Please....please try to listen to what others have to say and don't just attack, attack, attack without even considering for a moment what they have to say. Sure we don't all have the same party affiliation, beliefs, etc...but we can all be civil to one another, respect each others opinion, and try to act like adults. Many of us complain about the way our elected officials act, but how can we expect them to somehow rise above the fray when we can't even do it ourselves?

Thanks for giving a great example of what is wrong with this forum and putting the exclamation point on what I was trying to say.

I agree. Can we start by banning Dave? Then Moonbeam. Then Passions. Then Edge3D. Add me to the list ;)

PS I will offer some kudos to many who have been very civil...WinstonSmith, Don_Vito, Infohawk, some other "freaking communist liberals" I occassionaly converse with ;)

you're most welcome, but I think it's a valid point since many people in this forum can't take criticism of their country (they take it as a personal insult). The threads I start are nothing but flames because a select few have a flag tied around their head

Are you referring to that Korea thread? If so, I didn't even consider that a pissing match. You must be pretty sensitive then. If anything, you started it with your ATPN record-breaking number of lies in that thread. In fact, you made like 10 people consistently point out your errors throughout that 200 or so post thread :)

I start threads, but people come to flame to deflect the topic of my human rights threads :(

Once again, you still don't get it. You can't separate "your opinion" from "their opinion". It's "your reality and truth" verus "their misguided opinions". Until many of us, myself included, take that perspective consistently, then we'll never have intelligent discourse.

Just be happy there is differing opinions on this board. You ever been to an ultra-conservative forum or an ultra-liberal forum? Just giant circle jerks and endless train of back patting. Pretty sad and excessively boring.

Every thread i post in you have something pointless/unproductive to say...
look at the korea thread, the quebec thread just now...
Show me a thread where you had intelligent posts and didnt end up calling me a flag waving nationalist...or something similar.

I would say that this forum is about 10 members away from being the latter. But that's just my opinion. ;)

www.command-post.org is a blog that seems to be the opposite of ATPN. Mostly conservatives with a few liberals that jump in to stir the pot.

Jeez.. that Quebec post was just a joke. Relax a little! Anyways, I think I did post intelligent things in the Korea thread & the US-Canada pollution thread. I had to post things to fix up your blundering mistakes.

Every single thread in P&N is a 'pissing match'. If you have a different opinion than someone else, then there is a 75% chance that person will think it is a 'pissing match'. If you argue about politics and news, then someone will say that it is a pissing match. Apparently if you make a joke, it's a pissing match.

You know it has gone bad when people say 'Ban so and so!' just because they have a different opinion or views.

You are notorious for it too...see korean thread for evidence of that...
and a comedian too...mongeese!...haha...that is soooo funny...oh wait...no it's not...

hah, im such a b!tch today...i am in agreement though...im not expecting bans etc. I think there are a few ppl around here that could be a bit more considerate...me included. You can't say your opinion is more right, and there needs to be respect for that.

I come here not to enforce my opinion on people but to open my eyes to other points of view...and maybe they will do the same with the things i say. The amount of information one person can find or analyse is far less than 100's who are all pretty smart. (yes i said all...you peckers do have some brain cells - that's my complement for the day)

Instead of getting defensive...we could just admit flaming goes on and try not to do it in the future...:)

Now lets all share and get along like good little boys and girls ;)

Everyone is a problem depending on the point of view. I saw you as the source of the problem. Your comments seemed like intentional trolling. You had multiple people commenting on your posts. Perhaps you should rethink this. It's easy to label another as a problem instead of looking at yourself. Perhaps we were both problems in that thread.

Isn't your post basically another 'pissing match' in a thread about 'pissing matches'? Yes it is.

You appear to be appealing to the entire community but a closer look at your posts suggest you think its really "liberals" who are the cause of many of our problems. Here is one such example in the closed thread

This place has become a haven for the closed minded free thinkers (figure that one out) like conjur and dmcowen674 who refuse to even listen to the other side of the story when it is backed up with facts. All they do is attack the facts or the source of the facts....like that somehow explains everything.

to which I responded:

Your post suggets that only conservatives have a problem with so-called bleating. Please offer evidence for this. Otherwise, you are suggesting that both sides dislike it but for some reason conservatives have more of an issue with it that has caused them to leave. Again, offer evidence for this statement.

Now again, in this thread, your painting a picture where the "conservative" was a victim. I re-read the other thread and it seems that Cad alleged people didn't respect the presidency. Perknose asked for proof (a completely legitimate thing to do), and a supposed pissing match ensued. How was Cad attacked here? I could argue Cad "attacked" others first. The point isn't that someone started it but that you try to blame things on one side while you pretend to have the whole community's interests in mind.

If you are trying to appeal to the entire community which by recent polls suggests it is predominantly liberal, perhaps you should stop taking sides. A more effective approach would be to come off as objective and neutral.

Rabid: Well it isnt a pissing match unless you don't agree with it.

I thought my comment was very constructive...minus the joke which you said are fine :)

I started posting here less than a month ago...now are you saying there was constructive conversations before i came here?
if not which i highly think...how can i be the source?

I basically made a statement which was more or less a truce if you will and admitted that i wasnt an angel and defended my opinions for much too long in especially the korean thread.

But instead of agreeing and saying you are pro-constructive debate, you come out swinging saying that this bad stuff is inevitable and that i am the source...
GJ buddy...

You need to re-read what I posted. I said that from my perspective, you were a problem in that one thread. I'm sure I was, too.

If you wanted to call a truce, perhaps you should have tried it without insulting me in the beginning.

I've already said I was pro-debate as I have said that it makes no sense to ban people for having a different opinion.

Again, apply your own criticism to yourself as well. You 'came out swinging' insulting me as well.

Infohawk's last post makes some valid points.

Personally, I have no problem with the lack of civility on this board, it seperates the chumps from the champs. I've got no problem giving back what's given to me. Most of the time I just consider the source and it simply rolls right off. Other times, I certainly don't mind being as descriptive as necessary when pointing out the location of the village idiot.

I've been known to be wrong on occasion  and this forum has enriched me at least as much as the folly it's brought.
