Damn Bill Clinton single-handedly destroyed the GOP argument in one speech

Just wait four years from now when Hillary has Bill and Barack stumping for her.

The saddest part about this tired 'anecdote' is that every little kid I've known would be thrilled to take money over and give it to a stranger if you asked her to. It's only later in life that we stop teaching sharing and promote greed and selfishness instead.

Yea, him pretending that he just ran across that old anecdote was a bit lame.

And I completely agree with your other point about what a real kid would do.

If one is familiar with the folk who post here one does not need to read their opinion to know what they thought of the Clinton speech. Everybody, as far as I can tell, sees exactly what he already believes, we simply project our inner content onto the data, no matter what it is. This prison we have built for ourselves seems to be inescapable because everybody seems to believe that what he believes is reality.

What this tells us then, is that if you know something that is what you will see, a world that comports to your expectations.

But if you could take from a person everything he or she believes, deprogram him and strip him of all in the way of personal knowledge and belief that he holds dear, what would you be left with? But of course you can't answer that question without actual experience because you would only be applying your belief. You would simply have to actually experience a reality in which you simply knew nothing first.

But only a fool can bear to know nothing because only a fool is fool enough not to notice how despised fools are.

So its not new?! Oh gee willikers I didn't know that 🙄

You mean I claimed that it was a NEW anecdote? Where did I say that? So there was no pretending. I posted one random anecdote, never claimed it was the first time I have seen that (it isn't but I just came across it again) never claimed how useful or good it was.

Though truth be told, no one logical kid or adult would ever agree to give money they earned to someone who didn't. (If you are for this you are a socialist fyi)

I am glad I got the response out of some of you that I did. Taking what I said serious and all.

😎

What's funny is that Clinton doesn't actually have the best reputation as an orator. He's an expert at debates because he can explain complex ideas in very simple, straightforward terms. His speeches tend to be disorganized, rambling, and go on far too long (look up some of his old state of the union speeches).

The reason this speech succeeded is that he wrote it as a debate. He (mostly) stuck to a list of Republican arguments and made counterpoints to each of them. The result was the best speech he's ever given, but one that he can only make once in a campaign. If he were to try to take this on the road, it would quickly sound tired and boring again.

An amusing side product of the speech is that he explained Obama's case so easily and simply and easily that the viewer is left thinking "why the hell didn't someone say all this before???"

You pretty much hit it on the head. No soaring oratory, to me this was more of an absolute killer closing argument in a trial. And the good thing about it was he was able to say things with great effect that Obama never could-devastating points like Clinton's sincere conviction that no other president could have done better under those circumstances. Can you imagine Obama (or anyone) saying that about themselves?

I loved the way he delivered it too, all smiles and positive, no sarcasm. He was able to be much more devastating in his attack that way without turning off a neutral or hostile listener.

The GOP made two huge blunders that Clinton drove a truck through. First, by builiding Clinton's rep up by repeated ads and comments that Obama's performance was nowhere near Clinton's level. Heck I even saw Newt on TV before the speech saying what a great president Clinton was. Secondly, and inexplicably after running for literally years with nothing but vague statements and after he secures the nominaion, Romney tied his star to Ryan and Ryan's budget plan (BTW Sister Simone also did some pretty devastating attacks against the Ryan budget in her brief speech earlier last night). In retrospect tying himself to Ryan may be viewed as almost as dumb a decision as McCain picking Palin.

I predict you are going to see quite a few Bill Clinton speeches in battleground states between now and November 6th. Last night will not be a one off. It kind of reminds me of the boost Ted Kennedy gave Obama with his endorsement and many public speeches in the 2008 nomination battle.

Well, this is the truth, but it was a bad idea to point that out to the public so it can be used against you. Fail tactics Reps. Fail tactics.

Obama's seeches are lofty, inspirational with the ability to stir people into action, akin to MLK's "We have a dream speech" or Patrick Henry's stirring "Give me Liberty or GIve me Death" spech.

I hope that was hyperbole and not a serious appraisal.

Obama's speaking style is nearly of the same vein as Bush, only he is reasonably articulate and intelligent, which comes through in his speeches. Both are empty suits that speak in wide open topics with NO detail. It allows/forces the crowd to fill in the vast blanks with their own thoughts and opinions so that they feel like there is a perfect connection. Though their ideologies are very divergent, their speaking style is nearly the same.

This is what most people said about Bill Clinton's speach, "How 'bout some football!".

I wondered how many talking points you could fit into one post. You have to be able to speak to have a speaking style. No? Bush had trouble string cohenerent thoughts together.

Obama's speeches are filled with rhetoric as most orators do who stir people into action. Go read the speeches I mentioned. Behind the slogan, hope and change he outlined plans of things he wanted to do and did. Equal Pay, Iraq, health care and others.

Here are a couple of his speeches.

Also watch him at the Bipartisan Health Summit

Maybe, your using a different defintion of Empty Suit than I know.

Any off the cuff speaking by Bush made it very clear how his mind worked, or more accurately, didn't.

Obama is clearly more intelligent and verbose.

But when it comes down to their speeches, regardless of how much personal input they have, both were very similar. I'll certainly agree Bush was almost certainly reading a script that he had no part in creating, but the end result was the same speech. Just targeted to a different audience.

When I speak of the empty suit speaking style, it was something I had read about in the late 90s when Bush was governor here in Texas. It was an apt description because everything was vague yet purposeful, but always so broad as to be useless. There were huge holes left intentionally so that the audience would fill in the blanks with their own thoughts and opinions.

In the end you have no call to action, no nuts and bolts, but a grand vision of a great future of exactly what each person wants. It in no way tells someone where they are really going, nor does it make any promises that could be held against the speaker later. It is effective, but disingenuous and a waste of time.

While there were other factors, that speaking style and approach that both Obama and Bush employed were huge reasons why I have never cast a vote for either of them.

Truly masterful. I wish this guy were still President, truly a transformational political figure. Nobody can explain the Democratic policies and platform in such plain English like he can.

Obama owes him big time. This speech just sealed the deal for him. He made the argument for Barack's reelection better than Barack likely will on Thursday.

You are one of the few then, he was impeached after all........

I listened to BC's speech in the background and all I could think was "wow, Bill Clinton 2016 or what?"

You are one of the few then, he was impeached after all........

FOR GETTING A BLOW JOB IN THE OFFICE! my kind of president.

Many Americans thought that while he did lie about sex it wasn't an offense worth removing him from office over...

http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/stories/1999/01/11/poll/
With the Senate impeachment trial of Bill Clinton scheduled to get underway this week, nearly two-thirds of the American public does not want to see Clinton removed from office, according to the latest CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll.

FOR GETTING A BLOW JOB IN THE OFFICE! my kind of president.

Actually it was for lying about it when caught as "The morals of the presidency" must be the highest in the nation. No lying.

Somebody's jealous.

Of what?

BTW: People so easily moved by slick talk should stay away from used car lots. I was an adult when BC was President. I remember him. And if you wanna do a "Monica Lewinski" on him, at least have the decency to do it in private.

Bill Clinton..... wow, is right. He is the only President to be convicted of perjury while in office. Way ta go Bill.

It was quite a speech.

Every American should read and sign it.

If you do not like it you should get a ticket and leave the country.

I didn't like it. I didn't like so much I watched the NFL game.

I've been lied to by Clinton before last night. He is the only President to be convicted of the crime of perjury while in office. He's no hero to anyone but liars.

Every Republican in this thread knows damn well what Bill Clinton just did to their party in one speech. He made the case for Obama's reelection right there and just won over pretty much every independent voter out there that was on the fence about Obama.

There is NO chance Romney can win this election. Once his tax returns are fully leaked his ship will be completely sunk. The major focus for the Democrats needs to be on riding a landslide of momentum to re-take the House and establish a greater majority in the Senate.

The GOP is a dead party. The difference between these two conventions has been astounding. The DNC is vibrant, enthusiastic, positive, and more representative of the America we live in today. The RNC felt like a funeral, flat and uninspiring...filled with a sea of old white people.

I was in the football demographic but catching the conventioneering on the side.

Hehehe. Catching flack for it here by the sycophants, to be sure. 😎
