Earlier today some preliminary benchmarks of GeForce 7900GT and GeForce 7900GTX were leaked onto the internet pending the March 9, 2006 launch.

System Configuration:
Athlon 64 FX-55
1GB DDR400 (2x512MB)
nForce4 motherboard

All tests were performed with a 1280x1024 resolution. The cards tested claimed 1.2ns DDR3 for both cards. ForceWare 84.12 was used for testing.

GeForce 7900GTX 512MB
650mhz core clock, 1600MHz memory clock
3dmark 03: 17800
3dmark 05: 7600
3dmark 06: 5200

GeForce 7900GT 256MB
450mhz core clock, 1300MHz memory clock
3dmark 03: 13800
3dmark 05: 7000
3dmark 06: 4550

For reference, 3dmark06 on a similar system scores approximately 4700 for a GeForce 7800GTX 512MB running at stock speeds.

We already had a fairly thorough look at GeForce 7900GT, GeForce 7900GTX, and GeForce 7600GT -- all expected to launch just a few days from now. The Quad SLI ready GeForce 7900GTX will launch on the 22nd of March.

The 7900 GTX gets only 7600 in '05? Don't the current 256 GTXs get more than that?

[edit] never mind, the 12x10 resolution explains it.

So roughly how much would the GTX get at default settings on 3DMark05?
My X1900XTX does over 10k, 11k+ on my OC'd Opteron.

But not at 12x10.

Hense me asking for an estimation as to what it'd get at default settings.

No, that'd be what they already tested it at lol.
An estimation as to what the 7900 GTX might get at 1024 x 768 (default 3dMark05 res).

HHmmm...Both the GT and the GTX use the same 1.2ns ram and have the same 24 "pipes"? Overclockers dream I guess but seems a little too good to be true for the GT and a little weak for the GTX. A $200 dollar price difference for increased voltage, better cooler, and more ram?

Edit- also I now have to eat my current video card bite by bite(cooler included)!! Damn you Nvidia!!:|

Someone with a the Pro version of 3DMark05, please do a run on your X1900XT(X) at 1280x1024 so we can get an idea of how the 7900GTX is doing.

I'll do it.

Run it at stock clocks also, please since yours is heavily OC'd which just makes us more jealous :(

GT is clearly the better deal. The extra 256 MB isn't going to make a big difference over the next 6 months in most games.

If true, the numbers look a bit weak, I think...? I think they're false though...

Over on the DailyTech forums, people that own XT/Xs claim to get over 9k on 3DMark05 at 12x10. I don't own the card and can't find that res. benchmarked on a review site to check.
As for 3DMark06, the 7900GTX scores 5,200.
For comparison:

TechReport score XTX at 5,764 (at 12x10 res.)
http://www.techreport.com/reviews/2006q1/radeon-x1900/index.x?pg=8
BUT they also score the 7800GTX 512 at 5,329?!

TweakTown score XTX at 5,745 (at 12x10 res.)
http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/865/6/page_6_benchmarks_3dmark06/index.html

ExtremeTech score XTX at 5,722, XT at 5,491 (at 12x10 res.)
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1914662,00.asp

Guru3D score XTX at 5,192 (at 12x10 res.)
http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/315/16/

Looking especially at the TechReport score which would have the GTX 512 beating the 7900GTX, I'm inclined to take the DailyTech scores with a big pinch of salt...

Ok ran the benchmark on my system, first the specs:

CPU: AMD 64 X2 4400+@2.64 GHz
Memory: 2 x 1 GB
Card: BB ATi X1900 XTX @ default speed
Control Panel Settings: Default settings (textures/mipmap set to quality)
LOD: 0

It is important to note the CP settings because people can fudge with scores by setting mipmap and texture quality to high performance and setting LOD to 10. Here is the screenshot: http://img305.imageshack.us/img305/9799/x1900xtxjoker6rp.jpg

3DMark05 Score @ 1280x1024: 10,841

Edit:

3DMark06 Score: 6,133

Joker, any chance of a 3DMark06 score?

Sure, I'll go run it now but keep in mind 3dmark06's score weighs CPU and since I'm running dual core it will give me a better score than a single core at the same speed.

3D Mark scores mean nothing. 3D Mark 2005 works better on ATi cards, 06' on nVidia, so any comparisons are invalid.

3DMark05 Score @ 1280x1024: 10,841

7600 vs. nearly 11,000 is a helluva gap.

This tells me that there are some serious issues with the dailytech benchmarks. I don't expect the 7900GTX to be that far behind the x1900xtx. We'll know for sure in a couple of day though.

Yeah makes you wonder if DailyTech had vsync turned on or something.
