Actually, the bathing and walking around naked is done by sheer neccessity, the rest isn't something i'm familiar with at all.
I'm familiar with community showers, etc., from my own service days.
I don't recall anything approaching the level of homoerotic conviviality that Ackmed relates in the rest of his post, but I suppose things were rather different back in the VietNam era.

Even with the vast majority of the public supporting this repeal, some groups still don't get it:

http://www.advocate.com/News/Daily_News/2010/12/20/Antigay_Group_Declares_War_on_Repeal/

The head of the fiercely antigay group Liberty Counsel is steaming mad about the repeal of "don't ask, don't tell" and says he will push the next Congress to bring the ban on openly gay soldiers back to life.

The lobbying group, with offices in Florida, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., sent out an action alert Monday. After thanking its members for sending 6.1 million "message units" to politicians demanding that DADT stand, Liberty chairman Mathew Staver (pictured) writes, "Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have totally disgraced their respective offices throughout the 111th Congress, and their handling of this vital issue is just the most recent example of their betrayal of the public trust.

"Reflecting on this battle, I can assure you there will be many more opportunities to confront pro-homosexual activists in the legal and legislative arenas. I feel certain these radical groups have already picked their next target in their ongoing efforts to force their perverse will on America. The war is far from over. Here's our message to our armed forces: 'Take heart, because the American people will not allow this travesty to stand.'"

A recent poll found that eight out of 10 Americans supported the repeal of DADT. Regardless, the Liberty Council is pledging to resuscitate the policy.

"This action will be overturned in the next Congress because it breaks the bond of trust that must exist between the military and those who oversee the armed forces in the Pentagon and Congress. We will ask the House to defund the repeal of DADT. Then we will work to get fresh voices in the Senate and move to reinstate the law.

"We promise a full mobilization of faith-based and policy organizations, veterans, and military families in the states of every Senator who voted for repeal of DADT against the advice of our service chiefs."

Staver also offers a warning to President Obama, who is set to sign the repeal into law Wednesday. "President Obama himself will also pay a price, and will see that the insatiable demands of the homosexual community will only increase."

Fvck the Liberty Counsel and their idiocy. They can suck my big one.

I don't understand how these people can sit back from the comfort of civilian life and preach about the evils of young men and woman wanting to join the service to support our country. It is simply insane, my mind can't conceive of such bigotry. I guess I would have had to been raised in a different environment to understand the vile hatred directed at people willing to sacrifice their lives for our country.

Hopefully this will buy us at least 6 months of not hearing the pushy gay crowd shove their agenda down our throat. I am sick and tired of gay this, gay that.

I get it, you like to stick your dick up someone's ass, ok fine, stop making such a big deal about it.

I don't have a clueless post of the week award yes, but this demands making one.

People's rights being violated: all that matters is Jadow is 'tired of hearing about it'.

After all, they're not demanding thier rights, fairness, justice.

They're pushing an evil, corrupt, dishonest agenda for equal rights. Jadow is scum morally.

DADT is officially on the scrap heap.

Obama signs DADT repeal before big, emotional crowd
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/12/22/AR2010122201888.html

I still don't understand why it can't be immediately dropped. How long does it take to teach the troops to cut the shit out?
You have to set up a training curriculum; train the trainers, then send the information out with the trainers and schedule the training.

After all training has been done, can the military certify that the law has been met. This delay is probably a sop to the flag staff that wanted time to educate the troops.

Anything less will cause someone to complain that they were misunderstood and/or invoke a legal suit

While I agree; that a simple edict of DO NOT TREAT ANYONE THAT IS GAY OR SUSPECTED OF BEING GAY ANY DIFFERENTLY THAT ANY OTHER PERSON would be nice; the legal angles because it is a law, have to be followed.

Not aware that they were, but most closeted bigots seem to focus on making up issues like this.

You know, if people would just ignore it and not discriminate you wouldn't hear anything about it in the first place.

You can hardly blame it on the group that is being discriminated against, well i suppose you can but you have to be quite daft to do so.

I believe they received General under honorable conditions.

Some did. I was trying to dig up some of the older articles I once read of some real witch hunts that had been done. Unfortunately, I can't find anything on google right now because everything keeps talking about the repeal story and it's a pain in the ass finding older articles related to this. So I gave up.

Anyhow, one story I was able to find was of a gay navy man with pics of his boyfriend on his phone that got found out by others. They gave him General discharge which means he was no longer eligible for the GI Bill, which is one of the main reasons I joined the military in the first place since I couldn't afford higher education otherwise.

Obama has said in the last few days that he DOES NOT support same sex marriage... but supported civil unions. This is shocking that Obama still holds that attitude. And it also shows that Obama is NOT necessarily a friend to the gay community. DADT passed “despite” Obama's lukewarm support, and considering his justice department was still fighting against gay interest in court. DADT passed "despite" Obama.
So he thinks civil unions should be the way to go for marriage, knowing very well not one in congress has ever brought forward any law or motion as to civil unions. Saying one is against marriage but for civil unions is just a cop-out attitude. That attitude allows one to stand against same sex marriage, while giving the illusion one is not anti gay. It is simply a cop-out answer, and he knows it. His attitude on DADT compared to his attitude on same sex marriage would be like allowing gays to serve in the military, as long as they wore a red arm band or maybe a pink star on their uniform. The Civil union option is no longer a valid option. We've gone way beyond that. And why Obama still holds that attitude should be a warning to gays, that Obama is not to be trusted and not acting in their best interest. And would not stand by their side when the going gets rough. But luckily, progress is and will continue to be made not because of Obama but despite him...

He still has an election coming up in 2 years, keep in mind that politics is not all about saying what you truly believe, but saying what you need to keep yourself in office. It doesnt matter what you believe if you dont have the job anymore.
