Will it matter if it's a desktop or a mid tower?

BTW: I just checked out your rig...my god, you could pilot the Enterprise with that thing!

PS. You guys mean it's actually possible to overclock a HD? I meant that as a joke...

Alright, after looking at all the other computers, I've decided to go with the Antec one you showed me, all the other ones are just too plain or plain fugly! I'll update my previous posts with it.

Please don't take offense, this is my first time doing this, I'm using pretty much the majority of the parts you specified. Your right though, the computer you made is a really good machine. I'm just trying to get the best I can for what I've got and I'm weighing my options.

Also, I may have asked this before, but is there any need in putting a really good sound card or something along those lines in there? I've got some extra money now, what would be a good recommendation? Any speakers that would be good? What type of keyboard and mouse should I get? Any good prices? Definitely need an optical mouse. I can use about $200-300 on all these extras.

For sound I would go with the Audigy line. You can pick up the Audigy 2 ZS for about $70 here.

I haven't purchased speakers in a long time but Logitech, Klipsch, and Creative Labs all make quality computer speakers. However, I wouldn't buy some budget ones, if you really want some nice sound you may want to save a little more and buy some really nice ones later on.

As for mice/keyboards, I generally stick w/Logitech or Microsoft with the former being my preference. If you want super accuracy in a mouse, the MX1000 is probably the best at around $60, although some have mentioned to have issues with it while others claim it is the mouse sent from God himself. I recommend to go down to a local electronics store (i.e. CompUSA, Frys, etc.) and test them out yourself. Keyboard and mice preferences tend to change depending upon the individual. I will say that I really like my diNovo Media Desktop (Bluetooth can't be beat for short range wireless). If you don't want to spend that much, the Cordless Desktop MX for Bluetooth is also an excellent set for about $110 or so.

The MX1000 is wireless, and if you have a habit of lifting your hand when your holding the mouse a lot, it won't be that good for gaming. I like mine. Because its so accurate, I really crank the mouse sensitivity. I'd suggest a MX518 $40

I don't think it is an inherent problem in wireless as my Bluetooth MX900 works wonderfully in games, never have any lag (and I do lift it occasionally).

This is one of the reasons I hope they make a Bluetooth based MX1000 or even better, an update to the diNovo.

I was wondering, is there any difference between a Gig of RAM and a pair of 512s? Is one faster than the others? I don't understand what makes either a better buy than the other.

BTW: Just ordered that $50 Antec Case a little bit ago, should be recieving it in a few days.

I have a mx1000 and the mouse rocks. No lag whatsoever and the rumor about lifting the mouse up is false, I do this regularly while play CS and the mouse continues to move uninterrupted.

That's irrelevant. A S12-430 is an S12-430. It just means whoever entered it into the system just gave it incomplete specs.

Don't worry about this post, I'm just tracking what components I need and already have.

Case: Bought
Processor: Waiting for Venice
Video Card: *
Memory: *
Motherboard: *
Floppy Drive: *
DVD/CD Burner: *
HDD: *
Sound Card: *
PSU: Bought

*: Signifies Unbought Status

I'm making a list of what I need and such. Here's the part list.

3200+ AMD -Retail PS: I'm gonna wait a week or two for Venice
Sapphire X850 XT
TwinMOS 2x512MB RAM
DFI Ultra LANPARTY Nf4 Motherboard
Maxtor 250GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS GAMER
Mitsumi Black 1.44MB 3.5inch Floppy

Parts Already Bought:
Antec Black Case
Seasonic 430W PSU

Price changes, so when I buy it I will write down what the price is. If you guys see any good deals on the retail parts or such, please let me know, but FYI I would like to have a warranty with the part.

2 sticks = Dual Channel = faster than 1 stick = Single Channel + 1GB chips usually have slower timings.

Just bought a lot more parts, now all thats left is:

Case: Bought
Processor: * waiting for Venice
Video Card: Bought
Memory: Bought
Motherboard: Bought
Floppy Drive: Bought
DVD/CD Burner: Bought
HDD: Bought
Sound Card: Bought
PSU: Bought

*: Signifies Unbought Status

Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS GAMER
Mitsumi Black 1.44MB 3.5inch Floppy
Sapphire X850 XT

Now I just need the 3200+. This will be a beast of a computer hopefully. I did feel a little reluctant to purchase the TwinMOS, everything else was fine, but the TwinMOS just left me wondering if it was a good purchase...I mean, are the 2x512MB of RAM really good for gaming? I just need to know.

Almost every gamer used 2x512MB, look at my previous post for the reason why. I've never used TwinMOS and most people do not use it so I have no idea how well it will perform. And before you link me to that thread ribbon, I have seen it and it is the only time ever that I have seen someone actually run the stuff. Maybe they happened to get a golden pair.

I've been thinking of another question to ask you guys. Once my computer is up and running, should I immediately begin a memtest or something? What will happen if a lot of the memory is bad? What should I do in case that happens? Can you fix ram or are there warranties for it?

Also: Is the TwinMOS memory that you referred me to TCCD chipped? A question someone wanted me to answer.

Don't know about the TCCD question, I know what it is and that many of the more popular brands (i.e. Corsair) use it, but don't know what TwinMOS uses. As for memtest, it is a good idea to run it to make sure it isn't giving you any errors as bad memory can cause all kinds of havoc on your system. I never bothered to do it on my system but that's just me, and have had no problems. Most memory has a lifetime warranty. And if you are getting a ton of errors I would exchange/return them.

As for the DFI boards, they seem to love Winbond UTT. I would get some TwinMOS and be happy :) BTW Nice rig.

Alright, I've bought everything, except for the processor. I will have about $400 or so in money in a little bit. I was wondering what to get with $400? Should I stay the 3200+ route or go a little bit more extravagant? I mean, this thing is going to be for almost strict gaming purposes only. I don't wish to try overclocking...yet, but I will wish to get some serious power out of my comp. What would you guys do if you had $400 to blow on a processor? I know I'm waiting for the Venice core to come out, but since I haven't found a definitive release date, I want to consider at least others opinions or options.
