Do you think we will ever recover from this state of moral decay? I am not talking about religious decay but rather compassion twords other individuals.

Are you suggesting that we're on a downward slope in that regard?
If anything, I'd say that we are probably at a high point historically.

that was my thought. I disagree with the entire original conjecture.

Humans are de-evolving. Too many people in the shallow end of the gene pool.

Exactly! It seems like we are de-evolving into a state of "whats best for me" and not "whats best for us" which is being driven by todays popular society.

Actually, I was thinking about it more from a anthropology point of view. My wife has a degree in it, after all, and we discuss it a lot. When the human race started eating so much mess, and less berries, it was the worst decision. And the way that genetic diseases are treated now, keeps them in the gene pool.

It has always been like that but it seems to have gotten worse within the past 5-7 years. Maybe it is just a part of growing up that makes you notice more???

Take a look historically - the mass slaughter of the two world wars, the holocaust and russian purges, mass slavery and oppression of the colonial era. Europe alone was in a constant cycle of wars for centuries. I could go on. Historically speaking, the world is largely at peace and more people are freer and more prosperous then possibly at any time in history.

I think each generation looks back with fondness about how things were. However as the negatives appear in the global community there are advancements that make lives easier.

I do think that we need to get off this rock to continue the human legacy. We won?t be safe here forever. Weather natural or through our own doing this planet can't sustain us all. Let?s get a move on.

Ahh, the dillusions of not living in 3rd world countries.
While Europe & north america may be in better condition and at peace, the other 65% of the world:South & Central America, The middle and far east, asia, & africa are still under great deals of poverty, war, famine, and disease.

Technology has improved, but we are no closer to a worldwide utopia than we were 2 centuries ago.

That however imho is the result of increased information/communication(the world moving closer) and not of increasing morals

I've been to the 3rd world. I know it's still very bad there - worse then most people in the 1st world can even imagine. It's been very bad there for a long time. Is it worse now then it was 50, 100, 200 years ago? In some areas, probably. But overall I think, even there, things are better now then ever.

Technology has improved, but we are no closer to a worldwide utopia than we were 2 centuries ago.

You relize of course that we have never had a "whats best for us" society. The current system works ok because "whats best for me" generally has to be good for us otherwise we don't let you have it.

Good quote.. I hope that one day we have the technology to create a utopia. Someone help me find the "Do a good deed" post and bump it.

I don't believe human nature will EVER work on a 'what's good for us' instead of 'what's good for me' system.. just not possible.
