Introduction
As you will be aware by now we released an F.A.Q. explaining far more details about the DRM that is used on Crysis Warhead. Following on from the information we gave you last night we're also pleased to be able to tell you that EA have sent us the following message to pass on to you guys:
quote:
"EA is expediting development of a system that will allow consumers to de-authorize machines and move authorizations to new machines. This system will effectively give you direct control to manage your authorizations between an unlimited number of different machines without having to contact EA customer service."
Conclusion
Please keep in mind that we cannot commit to a specific time frame or give you a date on when this will be available, but it is definitely being worked on.
We hope that this will really keep you guys happy and that you can understand that we have been listening to your concerns and are trying to make as much progress as possible to help you all out as best we can.

I have hundreds of games and like to keep them installed and ready for play. Perhaps EA will do as 2K has done with BioShock. 2K removed this limitation caused by SecuROM not too long ago.
You have a link to this?
EA has said they intend to release a 'deactivation' tool for Spore to allow the customer to remove activations without calling EA, but there's no release date yet. And it won't make a difference if EA shuts down the activation servers. What they need is a patch, preferably a re-release, with no DRM at all.

I bought the game, it plays great, i'm having a blast (i bought it over steam). It's very unfortunate about the drm, i dont like having a rootkit on my machine.. so here's the deal
1. buy the game, enjoy it.
2. when a pirated copy comes out with a crack that no longer has drm, i will download and install that one instead.

You had to reformat? No, the only thing forcing you to reformat was your own stupidity. What, did you get a virus that you were too lazy to clean out? Spyware? The only reason you HAVE to reformat is because you screwed something up, and if you're doing that more than 5 times in 8 months, it might be time for you to ditch the computer, as you're obviously incapable of running the damn thing.
While I don't support DRM in computer games, you should not be blaming EA for your own stupidity.

You should've posted this in the thread where there is already a discussion going on, keep it all in one place I mean. Anyway unlike what a lot of people for some reason think, formatting your computer monthly (which sounds like they have other issues to deal with) isn't going to count for more than one activation. Although it is surprising to see the same thing with Steam. Is that a first?
I thought about that, but then I also thought that someone who didn't read the other thread would want this front and center, since it was such a major question. Mods, feel free to merge it if you like.

Your an idiot.
Reformatting is THE best way to improve PC performance. Even Cleaning out all the crap even from surfing the web is almost impossible without a reformat. I say YOUR an total moron for thinking formating is such a big deal, because any true PC enthusiast knows reformatting is nearly always a good and smart thing to do regularly.

actually no
5 reformats caused by hardware failure ( 2HDDs a Mobo, and 2 Vid cards)
1 caused myself trying to OC my CPU too much go go corrupted system files
1 when i decided to go from windows XP- windows vista 64 and then again because vista SP1 would not install and i had to reformat to get it to go
the only 1 of those 8 that was truly my own fault was trying to OC the CPU more then i should have
all 5 hardware failures just happened randomally

You don't need to reformat due to hardware failure...unless your OS drive is the one which goes obviously.
And assuming your dead components were within warranty, I would assume they got replaced like for like, which means you definitely don't need to reformat (and they wouldn't count as hardware changes either I'd assume since it's the same hardware).

Reformatting cleans the registry and allows my machine to run the way it should. There are too many software vendors that create buggy installs and bad code that, simply put, craps out your box. I, unlike you apparently, like to have a clean system that is optimized fully. Updating drivers over time also mucks up the registry, I never said anything about viruses or the like. (And I missed the HAD to part, I reformat about two or three times a year.)
Thanks for your totally uninformed criticism though, greatly appreciated.
