There is almost too much detail in the game. The detail is so fine that 4x AA doesn't fully do its job and the details look grainy.

Crysis 3 is exactly what I was expecting next-generation to be : insanely detailed. Without AA, it definitely looks to grainy. But at 1440P, it seems like FXAA or 2xSMAA are enough to remove that.

But I wish I could use TXAA. I actually love how it looks in this game, but the performance hit is too large. It feels like it has the same performance hit of regular MSAA. And yes, there is blur associated with TXAA, but it actually works well. It gives me the impression of "hazy air" which fits the "jungle NYC" theme perfectly.

It's taking me forever to get through the checkpoints because I'm constantly being distracted by how good things look (and keep dieing).

It's the first game in three years that's made me stop and feast my eyes, GJ Crytek! 4xmsaa is fine on my 'outdated' rig!

So I played the first few checkpoints and WOW, this game is incredible really. It looks much better than I expected. I can generally hold around 60fps, but there are some SLI issues with some graphics effects, such as dripping water and some other stuff causes GPU usage to fall to about 40% which induces lag, but most of the time GPU usage is high and FPS is good.
All maxed settings with 4x MSAA. GPU mem usage at 1080p is 1.8gb, but I haven't turned off aero yet while playin the game.
There is almost too much detail in the game. The detail is so fine that 4x AA doesn't fully do its job and the details look grainy. I think the game may look better with higher AA levels or higher pixel pitch, such as a 1440p monitor. Anyway, great game. I am actually enjoying it and expect to finish the game, which is very rare for me. Far Cry 3 was great and barely got me to finish the main missions, which is a big deal and I expect to finish this as well. Great story telling aspect to the game, great music really draws you in etc. Really good.

The game is unbelievably good visually. Crytek has really done a good on it. I am in the later areas of the game and I am getting about 40fps with just SMAA, but at least it looks like it's worth it. The game is so detailed and there are tons of small details you keep noticing that are just amazing.

My only issue is there is some sort of SLI profile issue where GPU usage in certain areas drops off to 50/50, effectively putting you on one card, then jumps up again.

Knowing Crytek it's probably an engine issue Nvidia will have to compensate for.

Waiting for the Tweak Guide tweaks review on this which they said will be out soon. They usually show the performance penalty for each setting with IQ compare pics which I find useful. Using a 3570k/660ti setup with mixed high/very high settings at SMAAx2. Running very well aside from the beginning mission.

It works very well in interior scenes which can be plagued by aliasing, the first level is very good showcase.

Tried it on my GTX 570 SLI system and it got on my nerves lol.

Right at the beginning of the game, after I got the bow, the game was essentially a slideshow jumping from 18fps to 50fps and back. That's just at 1080P with everything at max, no motion blur, 1xSMAA and textures at high since the system does not accept higher setting.

The problem here is the framebuffer of my 570s which just can't cut it. In terms of gpu power the system would be enough for 50-60fps at reasonable settings. Still I went as low as medium textures and the framebuffer is still getting hammered man.

Thankfully this is for good reason. The game is immensely detailed as already stated.

Normally I would be disappointed, but I just ordered my 7950 bundle (that was before seeing Crysis 3 otherwise I would have ordered sooner, lol) and I do believe that it will kick it in the nuts.

Very happy with how Cry Engine has progressed. This is a true PC game people. Go out and get it if you are into fps.

My only complaint is that the multiplayer beta was a lie. The single player campaign is much much heavier (and much much prettier). Can't wait for the new hardware to arrive!

I'll either wait for Steam version and on sale or not bother. Crysis's story sucks and it's weirdly unplausible, FC1 was just ok gameplay wise, however i dislike Crytek's other crap...though it seems everyone here is concerned only of graphics, no doubt if any of the Crysis's had poor graphics, they would just be considered another FPS shooter with aliens and conspiracies.
After reading the stoyrline and how Prophet comes back, i just lol'ed.

...oh and whatever happened to that cool alien ice gun from Crysis 1? All of a sudden the alien's like the heat now or what? Could have made for a fun weapon, it's like the aliens lost their mother brain, "lets ditch the ice and flying machines and go on foot as a remodeled human soldier where we wait for someone to trigger our aggression" lol

Awesome game guys, truely next generation, fully multithreaded and scalable cpu engine (a new benchmark) and fantastic DX11 visuals and effects that kneel down even Titans. It was well worth the wait, CryEngine 3 simply rocks and the PC version is another landmark like Crysis 1 was.

Visuals ARE great, the best i've seen. But holymoley its bugridden, from the very first encounter, major inputlag. Solution? Run in windowed, same res. Or fiddle with an autoexec.cfg. And that was just to get started .. right now im stranded somewhere cause a "remote hack" failed to open a door (and lots in between) .. Certainly need alot more patience than i have right now to play it!

But the visuals are epic!

The first 5 minutes of gameplay had me amazed at the visuals. I never really thought Crytek would put the time in to push the PC version again.

The lighting, floor textures, water, facial animation of Psyco and the scientist guy that prophet cant get a read on.

Found myself just looking around at times to admire the beauty.

And on top of that, I really enjoyed the game. Nice mix of open worldness, but keeping you from straying too far. Great soundtrack, love that you can skip all the EA,Crytek, Gaming Evolved ads when launching the game.

Thank you Crytek! You did it again! This is clearly the best looking game ever released to this point.

Just got it... Holy smokes is this game gorgeous. Makes my system cry. Going to *have* to play this on my 1920x1080 120hz monitor since 2560 is too much for my heavily clocked 7970.

I keep getting system low on memory. Settings are system spec very high smaa 1x , everything else default set to very high, texture set to high. Game just closes. I set my page file to 1gb to see if it helps. Playing on 1920x1080.

This is gonna rape my poor rig so bad.
Time for a CPU upgrade and to overclock the crap out of my 7850. And more RAM. Sh*t.

Dumb question: Is it fun to play?

i'm having probably 2x more fun so far than i did in crysis 2

my main evalautor is open world - i loved crysis 1 for that

its not quite as free and open as crysis 1, but definitely better than crysis 2

(also, the bow is awesome)

I'm trying to find the sweetspot in settings. My god this game destroys your pc I've already had a random reboot due to memory loss.

Are you doing an post processing on those screen shots? I crank everything up to very high, and it doesnt look nearly as good in screenshots or in game.

EDIT: I think it was just the monitor (120Hz TN) I game on. When I was looking back at footage I captured using my IPS monitor, it looked much better. The same monitor I was looking at the screenshots on.

Since I only have one GTX570 I guess Crysis can wait.
Hopefully it will pop up on steam just as then next generation cards come out...eventually.

It's tough to play with my 7970 ge anyway. Same low fps and memory shutdown. Need to find settings that work.
