Well, I can't say that I'm suprised. Just glad I cancelled my pre-order. I would've been PO'd paying 50 bucks for this crap. I knew as soon as I tried the demo. What garbage. BF3 will be my next purchase.

^^It was there in Warhead, why wouldn't they add it to this one also? I suppose one could argue that no one's going to care about hacking a crap game, but I'm sure the developers are in awe about their release.

I just found it ironic. Those who wanted to pirate the game already did. So what's the point of DRM at this time? :sneaky:

Looks like I'll be saving myself $60 by avoiding this joke.

But then:

Hopefully there will be a new Oblivion this year.

What? If anything, Oblivion was a joke. Now there's a consolified game!

On Crysis 2: Game should not be released on PC without DX11 support. Crytek's no longer a studio pushing the standards of graphics forwards.

60fps @ 1080p with highest settings on a single HD6970... pah!

From Iron Man 1 (the less overamericanized one) :

"Look, that's a weapons company that doesn't make weapons! "

GG Crytek, you never could write a decent game, and now you've lost the ability to justify 5000$ pc's ... alienware is going to be pissed, and you're fired !

i thought FADE drm was the new flavor of the week. every other one is just an easily surmountable inconvenience, or so poorly implemented that it renders your computer unusable. and anyway, i dont really see the point of pirating crappy games. it's what, a few hrs to dl, a few min to install, half an hour to figure out why the circumvention doesn't work, 6 hrs to play, unless the circumvention was crappy and suddenly there's a door u can't get thru... so ... an 8 hr hassle? meh no thanks.

anyhoo, looking at those screens, i don't think i'll be getting c2 unless the gameplay is TOTALLY AWESOME...... hAHA.

Well, if Crytek thought they "lost" a lot of sales due to piracy before (even though they sold over 3 million copies), just wait until now. That's generally how the PC gaming community seems to respond. Probably just as well, ever since the temper tantrum over Crysis it seems they more and more were just in it for the money. Seems like that's the status quo for a lot of gaming companies these days.

It would have been preferable to have Advanced option settings for graphics. However, if Crysis 2 turned out to be the best looking game out right now, then I doubt we would be as upset about 3 simplified graphical settings. Let's face it, the main reason we are disappointed is because in 4 years of development Crytek hasn't evelated the graphical detail at all (and arguably the game is even worse looking than the first game). Personally, I simply wanted someone to deliver a game that is head and shoulders above what the consoles can do in terms of graphics. Crytek was one of the few developers that could have executed. Unfortunately, at this time the game doesn't look that much better than the console versions. Perhaps, the criticism targetted at the first game for having very stringent hardware requirements has resulted in Crytek focusing on delivering a game that would be more accessible to a larger userbase with less than top-of-the-line hardware. From a market perspective, this certainly makes more sense as the game would be more accessible to more PC gamers. This idea also goes hand-in-hand with simplified graphical details and nanosuit functions. From an enthusiast's perspective, we are going to be disappointed (esp. since Gamer vs. Hardcore settings don't look significantly different from screenshots). Maybe BF3 will deliver on the best looking graphics in 2011. :)

However, gameplay is still preferable over graphics in my eyes. If the SP campaign is interesting, it will more than make-up for the lack of stunning graphics. Despite Crysis 1 having far superior graphics to Half Life 2, most gamers would likely agree that Half Life 2 is the better overall game. While I am not expecting Crysis 2 to be better than Half-Life 2, if it is a better game than Crysis 1, then they have been successful in delivering an "overall" better game. Fingers crossed that at least the gameplay delivers.

Wow all those options....
Now all they need to do is royally f*** up the Dx11 patch too,...

I wish more game developers would understand the importance of gameplay.
Some hide behinde beautifull graphics and give crappy game play along with it, and it sells because of the graphics. In the case of Crysis 2, its gameplay is gonna have to be what makes it sell.

Is it me or does the Extreme setting look a lot more blurry compared to Very High?

Extreme #1 vs. Very High #1

Extreme #2 vs. Very High #2

Looks like the Extreme setting adds AA into the picture (compare the 25 mph speed limit sign and the traffic light arm on the top left). However, the result is blurry leaves & details in the tree.
Extreme #3 vs. Very High #3

All in all the difference between High and Extreme is fairly minor. Sure, the Extreme setting adds more details on buildings and better shadows but the graphics are not mind-blowing by any stretch. Ironically I actually prefer the VH to Extreme from those screenshots.

I think you can even play this game at 1920x1080 High on an HD5770 without problems!!

extreme also adds minor geometric complexity. ex: the buttresses on the building in the background. non-existent on "very high". looks like it also changes shading.

I agree with you for the most part RS but Crysis 1 was great because you could always turn the graphics settings down and play on a run-of-the-mill rig. Looks like Crysis 2 isn't giving us the option to turn settings up.

That's true. The difference is at Extreme settings Crysis 2 probably looks as good as Crysis 1 on High (but not Very High/Enthusiast) but runs at double the frames this time on the same hardware.

I found this at IGN:

"Crysis 2 does allow you to change as many visual settings as Crysis.
While the PC demo had an encrypted configuration file, which limited the fine-tuning that PC players enjoyed with the original Crysis, the retail release of Crysis 2 is open and editable. While the in-game options are still simplified (with graphics options that now read "high," "very high," and "extreme"), there are thousands of console commands in Crysis 2 to play with, which you can find with a pretty simple Google search."

Maybe they'll offer a Very High texture pack like DA2?

There is also the mod community to spice things up.

Played through about the first 20 minutes of the game.

It's certainly a high quality game, production wise. I enjoyed what I went through so far, and I'm pretty fussy about games. I don't play too many, a lot I try and put away fairly quickly, I'll play through this one.

Graphics are where it's a real letdown. It's a nice looking game, there are not many that do look better, but one of the ones that does is Crysis and Warhead, by a good margin. I think having played the original really makes this sequel leave a bitter taste in your mouth when the graphics are just not up the level of the original.

Most noticeably to me is the water is nowhere near as nice, the view distance is terrible, very sparse detailing on objects in a distance, textures are quite poor, this is noticeable particularly to me on the weapons and vegetation.

Good looking game, but not in the league of the original. Sunshafts are about the only thing that have been impressive.

Gameplay is decent though, no idea if the story is that great yet.

Fair enough. But compare it to DA2, which doesn't look better, but runs far slower.

Will be interesting to see individuals results for the in game benchmark.
Nvidia will probably like to see gtx 590 reviews include this game.
