Yeah, but now Crysis 2 is off Steam? I just spent $60 two weeks ago buying it for Steam. Is EA going to reimburse me or let me DL on their Origin system? Or did I just get a giant pineapple up the ass?

I just found out mine is a 32 bit version of the game (bought from Amazon digital dl).
So does basically this hi-rez pack did squat for me?

The sooner BF3 comes out,the sooner most people can forget this piece of shit game and put it into the closet forever as the worst game of the year.

Bought it
hated it
not even close to replacing number 1

The only thing i don't see is:

  • Played it
  • Finished it
:p

Haters say the same things about DNF and neither game is even close to "worst game of the year"

Crytek (like id with their Doom series) makes an above-average playable tech demo; you should know this before you buy. There is nothing so special about Crysis or Warhead neither except the stunning graphics.

They all are. However, you must have a 64-bit OS.
Res Textures

(optional download)

This package provides higher texture resolution for a wide variety of assets. It supports both the DirectX 11 and DirectX 9 versions of Crysis 2. A 64-bit operating system and a graphics card with at least 768 MB of memory are required.

Install the 1.9 patch first, the DX11 patch and then the hi-res pack.

Not my favorite game ever, but I hardly think it was 'just a tech demo'. They put a lot of work into that game and unless you have some bias hate against Crytek there's no reason to say it's just a tech demo. It was a game. I had a lot of fun playing the game. Many epic moments. Sound track was amazing.

With the new HD package it really brings out the details and artistic lighting.

It reminded more of HL2 than any other game I played. The multiplayer is pretty damn good too.

they are not selling separate 32 and 64 bit versions of Crysis 2. your operating system needs to be 64 bit.

i didn't say "just a tech demo" .. it has a fair shooter attached. Although it is pretty generic and it is exactly what DNF makes fun of.

You do exactly the same thing over-and-over with very little variation other than the exquisite settings. You don't give a crap about your AI teammates, the enemy is ridiculous and the story is a jumbled mess.

The bosses aren't particularly good; they are repetitious and you only have "power" or "stealth" ,,, i expect the next game won't even bother have you switching. It wasn't hard on stealth. And once i figured the blue dot was the direction to head, there were no puzzles and nothing to figure out - look up, look down, blow something up ... get your recipe list of objectives and carry them out. Next up a group of enemies to get through .. rinse and repeat .. a "cookie cutter" FPS.

Yeah. i'd give it a 7.5. And quality sound is part of a great tech demo. Above average shooter, especially considering the awesome graphics. Without the awesome graphics it is *average* with its moments.

Crysis 1 was way more than a just tech demo to me. The FPS mechanics of the game are STILL some of the most smoothly integrated and immersive of the genre. I still haven't played another FPS that gives you a better sense of control of the player movement and gunplay - they just nailed it.

Even the vehicle control / physics are great. It's obvious they put a ton of effort and thought into developing this game - it's just fun to play.

Yep. Both 1 and 2's impression is greatly dependant on your play style.

Everytime I spin up any of them, I'm always looking for a different way to get through things. And there is where I have fun.

I played through this recently and really enjoyed it. Looks great with the DX11 + high res texture packs. Love the music, as TechBoy said. I haven't even finished Portal 2 yet, but I played through this in 3 sessions in 3 consecutive days. I'll agree the story was a bit all over the place, but plenty fun to play which is the main thing I'm looking for.

I think a lot of the 'problem' with the story is that it was written by a talented sciFi writer, but he writes books and probably had an expectation of people wanting to really get into the story. If you really pay attention, everything makes sense. If you just want to skate through and shoot things, much of the story will go right over your head.

The story didn't go over anyone's head, it simply wasn't told properly. Or at all in some cases. It was brutal, and I wanted to appreciate the story but it just wasn't there. Gould was insufferable, Lockhart was imbecilic, and Hargreave was beyond asinine. These were bad roles, with poor writing and sub-par voice acting. And the over arching story was just plain dull, probably because it was never told properly.

I had the same problem with the Halo sequels, they seem to expect you to read a damn book to understand what's going on with the storyline. This is unacceptable, the books can "fill in the holes" for fans that are into it, but games are games to me... I read plenty enough as it is and I have no interest in reading a book about a game.

With all that said, I really liked Crysis 2. Graphics were solid but with poor texture work in a lot of places, hopefully the new patch fixed that. The DX11 effects look snazzy. The gameplay was fun as hell, super intense firefights and fun locales to have them in. Verticality in map design is something they learned from some of the later Crysis Wars downloadable maps, this was on full display in Crysis 2 as well. Overall I really liked it and will play through it again on a harder difficulty as soon as TF2 releases it's new found grip on me. :)

Mine is 64 bit OS.
I did install both patch 1.9 and the hi-rez patch with success.
Made sure DX11 is enabled in game mode.
It looks the same a it's always been.
What have I done wrong?

If the high-res textures patch worked, there should be a "Use High-Res Textures" option under the advanced graphics settings, so doublecheck that one's enabled too.

You really need to realize that you are being placed into Alcatraz's shoes in this game. He was clueless as to what was going on, and the game really did a great job of portraying that.

If you payed attention and didn't rush through many pieces of the story are given to you. Such as the fact that Lockhart isn't an imbecile. He's just blinded by rage. His nephew was killed in the nanosuit program which is why he wants the suit destroyed, and bears such hatred for prophet.

That's a cop out. The main character doesn't know what's going on, so I shouldn't know what's going on either? No... it's just bad story telling.

Say I read about a guy who goes into a coma, and after slipping into a coma the rest of the book is just blank. Is that supposed to be immersive? The main character is in a coma and doesn't know what's happening so I guess I shouldn't either right?
