It's all about profit Dave, even NPR. If nobody listens, there's no book, no book ...no cash.

So station owners try to provide programming people will tune in for. Then they get book, then they get cash, everyone wins.

If the Lefty viewpoint had a radio following of any kind, there'd be programming to accommodate it (and there is, in proper proportion). They already have nearly all of the TV news and newspapers, be happy with that.

Using your misguided argument: What the Democrats trying to push for a new fairness doctrine need to remember is the airwaves do not belong to them, they belong to the American people. As such, the American people have the right to choose what they want to listen to, and the government doesn't have the right to dictate what they hear on those shows (outside of FCC regulations to limit obscene material).

So why is it ok to regulate obscene material but not other material. Rush has done a lot more to harm America then Janet Jackson left nipple.

I can't say I completely agree with censorship when it comes to "obscene" material, but being that it is public broadcast I can see where they are coming from. I listen to satellite radio, where censorship generally isn't an issue. However, just because I dont care if broadcasters drop the f-bomb, and songs aren't edited, doesn't mean I listen to it with my kids in the car. I think that debate falls into a different category than the fairness doctrine argument.
As far as the Jackson thing goes, I for one dont feel nudity hurts anyone. Oh no, a breast!!! Its just a human body, and I think it's safe to say there probably isn't a single person in the world that hasn't seen a naked body.. Disclaimer: Claim not including those who are born blind, or have never showered, or have never changed clothes, or those who have showered and changed clothes but in complete darkness.
