the Witch Creek fire in San Diego North County is about 2 miles from my house, and advancing. 4 of my friends also live nearby, but we're all at college.
I'm on the east coast right now, and I really wish that I was there to help my parents (though they don't have to worry about me, fortunately for them).

:(

Needless to say, if they ever catch the arsons who did this shit, they should be executed for domestic terrorism. This is a pain in the ass for me, right now, hopefully that doesn't prove to be an understatement, as it has unfortunately for possible hundreds of other people.

If I ever catch the person(s) I will rip them apart. Fucking wankers.

yeah, i saw someone throw out a cig this morning and thought about calling the cops.

earlier this year, the train went by our site and sparks from the rails caused grass around the track to light up..

They have now expanded the evacuation zone all the way up to carlsbad.
Carlsbad is where JulesMaximus is. :Q

I'm in Oceanside actually which is just north of Carlsbad. So far there are no fires near us but there is a lot of smoke and ash in the air. I have our house all closed up and the A/C is on.

My work is closed tomorrow too because of the smoke and I was one of the last to leave work today.

Thanks for your concern though. I'll keep everyone updated.

(AP) SAN DIEGO, Calif. The sprawling San Diego Wild Animal Park has been closed to visitors and staff.

Flames are threatening its eastern end.

Smaller animals, including California condors, were moved to the park's hospital Sunday. Other animals are being kept in their large field enclosures, which are considered to be safer because the vegetation is sparse.

The northern San Diego County park, encircled by fire breaks, is home to about 3,500 animals.

Jules is lucky they have San Marcos contained for the most part (100% Contained), but hell man, I do not want to evac my house, but of course if we have to we have to, I'm not going to attempt to slow down authorities.

I have a feeling a lot of the evac'ing going on in Del Mar is simply because of a possible excess of smoke. I do not hope to have to leave.

Not to derail the topic, but every time I hear of another forest fire in California, I wonder why they aren't just deforesting the whole place. It's doing it "naturally" as is... what a waste.

Hey, that's pretty cool.

No its actually pretty hot where I live, but hey, maybe the fires are producing cooler weather in other places.

you're more than welcome to come steal our rain.

its been raining nonstop for almost 2 days now and we already broke the 100yr record for annual rainfall like last week or the week before.

I also hate assholes who throw cigs out on the highway, I've stopped a couple times to put out small grass fires. The weird thing is cars just keep on passing like they don't care, too hard to help people now a days I guess.

"At this time, we are continuing to monitor the fire situation. Our understanding at this point is that the fire has hit structures in Fairbanks Ranch. For your safety, we are strongly advising that all Del Mar residents evacuate!"
http://www.delmar.ca.us/News/Fire+Update.htm

This is very dangerous because it encourages a mob run, all the same, its good to head advice. They're not doing a mandatory evac, so we don't want to move. We're more than ready to, so it's not like we're being obstinate, but we're not thrilled about spending hell at Qualcom.

Right now I'm wishing I had chosen somewhere else besides Cal St Fullerton. In my first class today on the fourth floor it smelled like fire because of the way the air intake system works. Luckily none of my other classes had the same issue.

NPR reporter interviewing a CDF Captain this afternoon...

"We've heard a lot about these Santa Ana affecting these fires. What are firefighters doing to get control of these winds?"

Hahaha what an awesome question. Did he say that they're building a huge wall?

damn! i wish I can help my housemates w/ the evacuation arg. I'm on the otherside of the world for work. I had to tell them what to pack.
Obviously we're not taking much. What I told them should fit in no more than a duffle bag. I told them to take my car.

And I'm pretty sure Jules is fine. Looking at the map, he's still outside of the evacuation zone. (I think he lives in Oceanside)

So will this be a ritual every 4 years from now on? bleh.

My Cousin's house and from what I know the houses in his neighborhood have been burned to the ground. (Poway, Twisted branch road). Does anyone have any video or images of that area?
