Starting in June, basic membership is increasing $5 from $55 to $60. Executive membership increasing from $10 from $110 to $120. They're raising the annual cashback for Executive members from maximum of $750 to $1,000 but that's no benefit to me. $120 a year to shop is kind of steep for membership fee. I can see lot of people downgrading to the basic membership.

Fail
i get over 200 bucks a year for my executive memberships. and that is just with casual shopping. so no im not downgrading when membership is free. hell they pay me to shop there.

Well, I actually got back over $1,000 since I got back another $660 from Citi Costco. The previous year I got back over $1,100 from Amex Costco and I think over $600 from Executive membership. I spend decent amount every year at Costco so the Executive membership pays for itself. But I could do the same at Sam's. Like I said, it might seem silly to argue over $10 but everyone has a breaking point.

you spend a lot of money at costco.

So Costco paid you over $1,000 to shop in their store and you are going to quit because they are going to pay you $10 less? The math is no in your favor.

It's an Indian thing.....:sneaky:

Either OP just really does not understand the executive membership thing, or this is a troll thread.

Shrug, if you were already spending $5,000 a year at Cosco for the executive membership or at least $3,000 to make up the cost difference for upgrading I highly doubt you are concerned about another $10 membership fee. People already on basic aren't going to stop shopping there over $5.

The previous year you spent over $30,000 at Cosco in a single year?!? How many kids do you have???

I absolutely love Costco but I would not have a membership. Being single it just doesn't make sense to buy a lot of the stuff there in bulk, although there are quite a few items I do purchase just for myself. I have a membership through my mom. My pops is too old and frail to use the second card you get and my sister's husband as one so I get the benefit. We'll go once a month or so and shop for all three households. Mom's, mine and my sister. Split up things like toilet paper, paper towels and more.

If you don't have health insurance and have multiple prescriptions, then Costco is worth the membership. The same generic drugs at Duane Reade/Walgreens were hundreds more for me than at Costco. I have no idea why. I'd tell the pharmacy person at Duane Reade that this same pill at Costco is under a hundred bucks and you want to charge me 300, so what's up with that? They never gave me an answer.

You call spending $10,000 in a single store over the course of a year "casual shopping"???

Jesus I know all ATOT'ers are the top .01% but WTF are you guys eating/buying at Cosco to spend that much? Are all of your supermodel wives popping out kids like their vaginas are slip and slides or something?

main reason I shop at Costco is for tires.

probably should have canceled membership 2 yrs ago when I got a new car.
and re-up next year when I expect to need a new set of tires.

definitely not saving $55/yr on comparable supermarket items that are on sale to break even on membership fee w/o the tires :(

You're happy to get $1000-1700 back, but a mere $990-1690 just isn't worth the extra $10?

king crabs, lobsters, USDA Prime steaks, ahi tuna, scallops, sea bass, etc are not cheap. It costs money to eat like a king. And supermodel wives and girlfriends like gifts like jewelry even if it's from Costco.

But then they want matching earrings and ring. So you buy that too. Then they ask for Tahitian pearls. So you have to buy the entire set of that. And so on. Good thing Costco don't carry expensive handbags and wallets.

if you're really maxing out the cash back, it seems silly to gripe over $10 when they're giving you an additional $250, for a net of +$240?

Perception of value. I can save or get that back from elsewhere. It's strange how $10 can cause all the trouble.

For $10 it seems silly, especially if you like a lot of the stuff Costco sells, and when you are spending that much you must like their stuff. The closest competitor is Sam's but I have read multiple places and seen people easily admit Costco is better quality. Plus Costco is great as a pharmacy and for tires. Customer service is second to none. And you'll still be making a large net gain from the yearly check. It just doesn't make any sense.

Even if I was making ATOT money I'd never drop 6 grand on a necklace for any woman. Get her $1,000 necklace and take a vacation, and she should appreciate it better.

Costco is not the only place I shop. As for stuff not making sense, people are not rational creatures.

I've spent more than quadruple that on a single ring for my woman. I don't make ATOT money. I spend ATOT money.

I keep seeing people say this about Costco and Sam's but every time I check for my cars all I see are either terrible all season tires or over priced all season tires. I keep trying but the vast majority of the time I can get better performing tires for less elsewhere
