LOL @ 7% sale tax above . Friends in Louisiana are paying 10% sale tax or $200 extra if they purchased the same thing above.

To be fair, I was in Costco one time with a friend with Costco membership and the prices from a few items I spot checked were about the same as Sam's Club. I did try to buy the famous hotdog w/ a drink combo but they were out.

Too bad the closest Costco is over 100 miles away from me.

Not everything is cheaper at Costco. Their veggies are pretty overpriced. $6 for 6 bell peppers... it's like 40 cents at the market.

Also it was interesting when I went to a CostCo in Miami. A lot of the brands were different.

It's why I love living in GA. The county right next door has 6% sales tax. I get the best of both worlds here. Low COL and low taxes. Little over 1/2 hour drive to the world's busiest airport that can take me anywhere in the world. 1 hour drive to Appalachian mountains. 30 minute drive to Lake Lanier. 10 minute drive to the Chattahoochee river. 4-5 hour drive to GA, AL, and FL beaches. Warm/hot weather of Atlanta and friendly people. Abundant job/business opportunities and growth.

Sam's Club is about 5 minute drive away and Costco is about 15 minute drive. I like/love Costco but I don't need it.

Costco warehouses carry lot of regional products so products can and do vary by region or country. And people in different countries pay different prices for Costco membership.

I live in Northern NJ. 10 min to NYC, the greatest city in the country at the least, 30min to 1.5 hour drive to beaches, mountains and hiking and backpacking and camping.

Only issue is the nearest Costco is a 30 minute drive. Who the fuck wants to go to BJ's? I mean seriously. I'd rather cut myself slowly with a butter knife.

Sorry man. I forgot about SC. I've only been to Columbia and Hilton Head. And somewhere rural in SC I forget exactly for factory buildout. I think Columbia was weird with the mustard BBQ. Hilton Head Island has really great food but I prefer the emerald green waters and white powder beaches of the Gulf. I want to visit Charleston, SC. My relatives recently visited and they loved it there. Now they're talking about buying vacation home in Charleston so if they do, I'll visit.

Yeah, but you're still renting. highland145 and I own our shit free and clear. If your landlord tells you to get out, you have to move. :D

That's good idea. I could easily do Costco cash cards since everyone I know has Costco membership. So basic membership is out of the question. It's either cash card and pay $0 on the membership or pay $120 for Executive membership. That cash card route is pretty appealing. It would be just like how I'm piggybacking off on the Amazon Prime membership.

??? And you'd be losing money since you'd make more cashback than the $120 membership.

That can happen. In my case it will never happen. My landlord will never sell - he is sitting on a goldmine that prints money. My colleagues have prospected him, and he basically said 'no way in hell is he selling. ever.'

Only way to get evicted is to be a bad tenant, which is not happening.

I'm buying though. Been looking for four months, put one offer in and lost in a bidding war. It's coming though.

I'm not making or losing money since it's merely rebate. It's mostly all leisure purchases. So it's a small discount. I can get bigger 100% discount if I don't buy. 100% > 2%. I also get back around $500 a quarter so about $2,000 a year from eBay Bucks. All from buying on eBay. But I don't say I making $2k a year from eBay just because eBay is giving me rebate of $2k from buying on eBay. That's silly. And just like Costco, all my eBay purchases are leisure. I don't need or have to buy from eBay.

Sams is just closest to our house and had a freebie membership for a long time, renewed it again.

To be honest I've never been in a Costco.

My membership is always covered because of their 2% back.

What rubbed me the wrong way recently is they raised the cost of their cookies to $9 or $10 but I guess they either saw sales drop or hordes of complaints because their price dropped back to $7 within months. But now they raised the price of their muffins.

I keep seeing people say this about Costco and Sam's but every time I check for my cars all I see are either terrible all season tires or over priced all season tires. I keep trying but the vast majority of the time I can get better performing tires for less elsewhere
tirerack's #1 rated all season tire for my car is stocked at Costco.
over priced? it's in line with tirerack's shipping and mounting to Discount Tires, especially with Costco's $70 tire rebate

#1 tirerack tire (Michelin) for my car is $597 at costco for a set of 4 after rebate. I can get the #4 rated tire for $399 barring sales or rebates elsewhere and most of the difference between the categories is 0.1. They don't carry the #2 tire (Pirelli) which I can get for $502 barring sales. Personally I like Pirellis over Michelins anyway as they perform better in the snow, the UTQG rating is higher and I've found they conform better to expected tread life than Michelins. Its pretty common to be able to find rebate deals on the Pirellis so yeah the Michelins are over priced at $170 more than the Pirellis

Easily $1 a water before and after concerts. Considering the entire case is like $3 people make a killing.

Gotta come down off that ecstasy.

You aren't kidding. Was big into the rave and club scene 20 years ago and you needed that water. Some venues and productions totally ripped people off. $5 for a regular bottle of poland spring that costs 14 cents at Costco last time I checked a few years ago.

We were in one major NYC nightclub and went to refill our water bottles in the bathroom. None of the cold water worked. My buddy ducked under the sink and turned the cold water back on. That happened multiple times that night. But we only paid for one bottle. I'm pretty sure I remember someone that spoke with someone who had knowledge that that particular club would set the climate control so it never got cool so people would be hotter and need more water. Go figure.

Even that is a change. In the good old days all you needed was beer, weed and Mountain Dew to properly manage your buzz for the entire night.

even the weed has changed - blunts and joints have been replaced with lab tested vape pens.

I believe my record was $10/bottle in the middle of some desert between CA and AZ.

The weed has gotten a lot stronger too.

What people are willing to pay for water is a constant source of amusement. I love being in a gas station and hearing people bitch that gas is over $2 a gallon while they happily fork over $2.50 for 20 ounces of filtered tap water.
