Would you mind if they charged differently for the same drink based on gender?

Is it still discrimination if you prefer this?

To many times i've gone to a bar with 90%/100% men, if this helps even the odds . I would gladly pay while woman don't for a higher number of woman. Are you upset no men are buying you drinks? Thought not.

The only ones who would get ripped off are gay men, but they have gay bars :p.

The originally post would answer that question. Thanks for not reading.

I don't mind, the more wasted chicks the better. I just wonder how they get away with it.

I'm wondering if the argument about fewer women visiting bars is disingenuous. Guys are always buying drinks for women anyway, and the cover charge just smacks of profiteering rather than "assuring a balance of men and women".

I haven't been on the bar scene for awhile now, but I almost never visited places that had a cover charge and never noticed a discernable lack of acceptable female targets...uh, patrons. I always had this nagging feeling that bar owners used the "more hotties here b/c they don't pay!" line to entice stupid/gullible men to paying money without receiving anything.

At least when I've paid a cover charge at a strip club on the very rare occasions I've gone, it included a drink (albeit overpriced), and there are always sights to see inside.

Here's the key question: Do New Jersey clubs still charge cover, ie. to everyone?

@MrLee

Then why the hell are you bitching and whining?

Don't go complaining if you like it.

How is that not discrimination? I don't have a problem with it, in fact I'd rather have it because it keeps the ration in the clubs at a decent rate. But how do clubs and bars get away with charging guys money to get in but not charging girls? They can't say "no cover for white people, 10 for black people." but they can say "if you have a penis it's 10 bucks, if you have a vjayjay its free"

I would think being that a club\bar is a place of business it would have to let people in at an equal rate or let people drink for the same price.

since when did discrimination become illegal? The club isn't a government actor so you dont have any constitutional protections against it. BTW, even if it was a consitutional issue, laws that discriminate based on race are given a "strict scrutiny" standard and laws that discriminate based on gender are only given "intermediate scrutiny"

PS a NY attorney filed a discriminate lawsuit for this exact same reason. He will lose miserably.

In NJ they already won that case.

Already won the case as in bars can no longer charge a cover based on sex in NJ? Please explain.

To everyone else: Yeah, gay jokes... one after the other almost quoting the same person right before you. Forget the "I don't have a problem with it, in fact I'd rather have it because it keeps the ration in the clubs at a decent rate." in the OP, just throw em out there.

In this day and age I'm just interested in how they have gotten away with it for so long without someone deciding to fight it with all the time and money they have. Go figure the most this topic has ever seen in court just happens to be in good old NJ. I'll do some more looking and see if it was brought to court anywhere else.

Edit: Vagina.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/o...-02-ladies-night_x.htm

And FWIW, I have no problem with ladies' nights. You want to have a sausage fest and just get drunk, go somewhere else. Most drinking bars don't charge a cover.

It works out in the end. The guys get to walk straight into the restrooms - there's usually a long line at the ladies restroom.

Having said that, I prefer the "free drinks for ladies" nights. Just make sure there's a few females in the group, they get to "buy" the drinks, and everyone drinks for free.

Nothing wrong with discrimination. Just use it to your advantage.

Yeah dude, ever been to a bar with coed bathrooms? It's hell. There is a dive where i live that has them and its ok in the beginning of the night because the guys are "gentlemen" and not wasted so their aim is better. But by the end of the night its like:

Guy 1: Doesn't lift seat up and pees all over seat.
Girl 1: Comes in, is disgusted, takes a lot of time making sure she squats without getting it all over her.
Guy 2: (Repeat Guy 1)
Girl 2: Has to take even more time then said Girl 1 because there is now a puddle.

It's neverending...

Clubs are retarded, they'll let hot women in so that there's more eye candy... It's a business plan.

Besides, clubs are for losers.

So? The cheapskates don't get in, and there are more women to mack on for the guys that pay the price. It's only $5. That's what a drink costs at Starbucks.

it is discrimination but as far as i am concerned it is a private place of business, the owner can do whatever he wants. Hell, he SHOULD be able to tell people he doesn't like they cant come in (i.e. if he doesnt like black people he can run them off). However, they should be able to stand in front of the bar and protest...

For the same reason that the Boy Scouts can bar gays, atheists and agnostics from being scout leaders. Private orginaztion.

This is simple, and probably already said many many times. The more girls there are, the more guys will show up and pay. It works great. Plus the girls buy drinks outta the ass.
