something tells me that SCK hasn't quite given up yet on his mem issue; I'd say that XMS3500 ought to do the trick, eh;)?

hey, THUGS, how's that new mobo:D?

So is there any real difference in limitation between the black and the platinum XMS3500C2 512MB parts as well? Do they both use the same chips?
I plan on getting two 512mb sticks sometime soon. Not that I can benefit from it immediately (won't be overclocking due to Intel board), but like to be future proof a bit when 800mhz Xeons come along using 400mhz DDR ram :)

There's no real performance difference between the two. They both use Winbond 5ns chips. The platinum colored sticks cost a few dollars more and just look prettier.

Should we do a test to see if oc'ing affects memory performance? O wait, we have, I forgot....

ttt :)

I'm helping a friend pick parts for a new system, but 1GB of ram is a pre-requisite.

On SC DDR if I take a P4 2.4B to 150 fsb (moderate oc target), it looks like I'll be forced to run 1:1, because 4:5 would be 375DDR, well above the 352DDR cap found for two 512MB chips in the first post here. At 1:1 150fsb, I'd be at 300DDR single channel - yeilding 2.4 GB/sec memory bandwidth. The P4 could use a lot more bandwidth if I could manage it somehow.

With DC DDR, again I hope to take a P4 2.4B to 150 fsb. While running 1:1 is the again the only option (this time due to chipset/bios), 150fsb would yield 4.8 GB/sec memory bandwidth - saturating the P4's bandwidth needs.

For a system that has to run two 512MB chips (1024MB total is a reasonable figure for 3D production work & video editing), waiting for Granite Bay is a no-brainer.

Or am I confused? :p

So, if no one is looking at your thread, does your post make a sound?

:)

Sure it does.

What ever happened to SCK? DId he test your memory in his board or not?

Lizardman: I didn't do any extensive testing with Thugs' pc3000...but limitation was almost the same...
but then again it could've been the mobo limitation...
someone send me a new mobo...rev 1.04 or higher...:)
