Corning Glass, the future.

Corning has been sitting on some great patents for a while now, and their business is booming now that the LCD and handheld market is advancing so rapidly.

That being said, to hell with seeing e-mail on the bathroom mirror. That would end up with a broken mirror and a bloody fist, if the first thing I see when I'm brushing my teeth is how some crap at work has an issue.

Pretty cool stuff. I wonder how close they (or anyone else) is to actually making this stuff (much less at an affordable price)....

I can agree, but I am sure it would be customizable. I personally can't get away from email and texts, most of which make me very happy.

Well, sadly...this is going to be upscale. The way the world/economy is growing the poor will get poorer.

Not close. I swear they've been 'demoing' this kind of shit for many years now. It's at least 20 years away before we get a decent amount of this kind of tech. That said too, it will be UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLY expensive. You know how much those Microsoft Surface things cost? I think it was, what, over $5000? (Cameras and all that shit) Imagine how much it'd cost if the fucking surface can heat up to 450F+ degrees. (You could use induction to heat things, but the surface will get just as hot...)

20 years?

you fucking serious now.

You realize the "moon landing" was all of just two times that ago. Tech is moving fast if you have the bucks to buy in.

I work for a partner that does DoD and the like as well. Most of the stuff is like magic when you see it. People are buying it.

the cost of a standard glass-ceramic cooktop plus a section for a touchscreen glass? you don't actually think they'd put a heating element directly under a touchscreen do you>

That's a minimum. You won't see it in mass like this either.

Look at the demo. It seems like the touchscreen = the cooktop.

i did. the element is separate and he used his finger in a small circular control area to turn it to some setting

if you're talking about the orange heating element expanding has he increased the setting - that's just speeded up for dramatic effect.

Imagine showing a "normal" person 5 years ago a current gen tablet and see what they think (Hint: They'll say it's not possible).

This stuff is not 20 years away, it's less. However, it'll be prohibitively expensive for the general population for a while.

LOL WTF. We had slate tablets TEN YEARS AGO.

Yeah, I know what this would result in.

Porn.

Everywhere.

And of course...

(Also, lots of pop-up ads, which can appear on every single wall and appliance in your house.)

But yeah, that looks nifty, and quite attainable, assuming you're pulling in about $200k a year.
