From Tom's Hardware: Curious as to how much the next-generation of Intel processors is going to run you? Hexus claims to have received from China a pricing list for the upcoming CPUs of the Core i3, i5 and i7 families.

Sounds like just normal $5-15 retail markup over the tray prices. Nice find.

The sad part is, they will sell quite a few of these drastically overpriced and underperforming chips. Oh the luxury of having and maintaining a monopoly huh.

Even though you are a Zoner, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and ask where you have seen benchmarks of these chips.

I think the prices stink for what they are. I don't plan on buying any for myself nor any of my customers anytime soon... Just mo obviously. They will sell well though...

I think these will be strong chips for the money.

IMHO, the biggest trouble AMD faces with dropping prices is how the cost of Operating systems and RAM factors into buying decisions. (ie, dropping CPU prices 30% doesn't really lower total systems costs that much when all the other components are proportionally more expensive)

I've seem several of your recent posts and was amused. Now your Intel anti-fanboy stripes are glaring.

While the market will have to decide on the price/performance of these CPU's, everything I've read shows greater performance at lower prices than the CPU's they're replacing. Seems to be the right direction for the 800-pound CPU gorilla. Have you seen the other Wintel 800-pound gorilla do likewise?

Given Intel's fab commitment to 32nm, I'd be surprised if they don't sell 100-million Clarkdale/Arrandale's by the end of this year. If so, I'd call that a strong market endorsement.

I agree. These seem VERY expensive, for a dual-core.

Does anyone know if we'll see this release push down the price of the i5-750 at all?

I don't think it will, the new Core I5 CPUs are dual-core with GPU integrated so they'll perform worse than the 750, which is a true quad.

The i3 looks interesting for cheap systems, but the i5 6xx line costs too much for a dual-core.

Those prices are pretty ridiculous but I'm not against a corporation charging whatever the market will bear.

i7 860 4C/8T- $229
i7 920 4C/8T- $200
i5 750 4C/4T- $150

Unless Micro Center plans to sell them all for $130 or less, they're not worth their current price IMO.
Yeah, I live 45 minutes from a Micro Center and I'm quoting their prices, so what?

Is there a reason why I should get an i3 even if I have a 3.5 year old 2.8GHz E6300? All I do is gaming and yet I'm still far from being CPU limited with such an old chip.

didnt you just answer your own question? that cpu is fine for 99% of gaming unless you are running a very high end gpu set up.

I don't have a problem with current prices. I'm actually thinking about spending the 200+ dollars on the 660 and PRAYING the MC has the 670 for 219.99

All i do is game with some light photoshop so a high clocked dual core with HT is perfect for me. The 540 has been going to 4Ghz on stock voltage

So, only the 2.93GHz i3 is worth buying.

The pentium is lame because it doesnt have HT, and the rest of the line is stupidly overpriced. I mean, does OCers really care about VT and turbo boost?

Or am I missing something?

Agree except . . .

None of the Wolfdale dual cores had HT and people managed just fine running them to 4GHz. So HT is nice, a must . . . we'll see.

You can call it intel anti fanboy or anything you want for all I care, the fact of the matter is, this thing get's pounded by a $99 quad. If you're willing to pay more for less, that's your problem. I'll take the better deal thanks. ;)

You are correct. At stock speeds the I3 gets beat down by the Athlon II X4 but what happens at 4Ghz? We all know the I3 will hit it without breaking a sweat but what about the A II? Can it even hit 4Ghz? What about an I3 at 4.5Ghz?

People aren't going to buy the Clarkdale's for stock speed performance. People like me who are going to spend the money plan on running these chips over 4Ghz on a daily basis and at that level of performance it's a whole different ballgame.

Well this exchange can go back and forth all night.

The pricing is based off of stock clocks. If intel's intention is just to sell to a handful of these to enthusiast's with overclocking in mind, they sure can't be planning on selling many.

Well I am mostly interested in gaming and Core i3 definitely does not get pounded by a $99 quad. (see the first link in my sig)

do you have benchmarks showing this so called pounding?
