Cops slam prankster to the ground...

The cops were right to start questioning him. What are the odds behind his behavior?
99%: he's drunk or high and might pose a threat (police see this every day)
1%: he's innocently dancing

The police did go a bit too far. I wouldn't say fire or suspend anyone. Just write it up as an incident and move on.
Here's a tip everyone can follow: don't act like you're on PCP unless you want the cops to grill you like you're on PCP.

Not to mention this guy is trying way to hard to over sell this crap. Sure the cops where asses about the whole thing. But "slammed to the ground" lol. Give me a break it looked more like a simple get out of here nudge. Even if it was a decent push (which I just can't see) it's still a far cry from being "slammed to the ground".

Tacoma 2009 a guy shot four cops in cold blood. Aside from the manhunt there was no massive freakout, no turning their backs on mayors, they got up, they did their job and they had the support of the community. The NY cops are doing pretty much the opposite.

It is tragic that it happened but it happens. Animosity towards cops didn't start in Ferguson.

Did the mayor toss them under the bus before the killing? If not, it's a different situation.

Yet if you touch a cop you are charged with assault........😕

I think we're on the same general side of this. I'm looking at how to behave knowing the way things are in the world. You're looking at it as an idealist; how things should be. We both agree the cops were over the line. Though I think remedial training is in order, not a 1st strike firing or criminal charges.
I don't know that I agree that pushing someone to the ground would result in a firing. I doubt it would in any of the trades. I'm not even sure it would in an office environment, at least not the first time. I've seen things go sideways at a few office parties, and once at work, but nobody was fired. But yea, it would be a one time thing. A 2nd offense probably would have meant getting canned.
Ultimately, behavior is determined by management. Corrective training could work, if the bosses wanted it to. But those cop's supervisors probably watched the video and just laughed.
 
Dancing behind a cop is pretty stupid. Bad decision on his part, but what the cops didn't by mouthing off and pushing him to the ground was out of line and illegal.
