Inline 4 vs V6 means pulling both heads to send out if the timing belt breaks (if an interference motor,) you will wipe out valves on both heads vs just the one head and it will double the price of the repairs. The Camry is a reliable car and I hate foreign cars. If I would recommend one for my sister (did just that about 8 years ago) you can't do to wrong with it either. If they want to spend $12,000 on a Camry, it must be pretty new.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

oh wait, its for you, not your dad. u can shove it then. upkeep of a luxury/v6 is more, insurance is more, gas is more.. everything is more. buy your own car.

I don't understand all the hate in this thread...

If the thread was "I have $12k, which car should I buy", there'd be no hate.

But since the thread is "My dad has $12k, which type of car should we buy", there's nastiness everywhere.

The kid isn't ungrateful, he's just trying to find the best deal. Keep your envy/nastiness/whatever to yourself.

you must be joking, he's trying to push his dad into buying him a used luxury car, and not out of practicality or frugality... he just wants the bling bling.

When he says "I Have 12k" its his money he is spending and becasue of that he could buy whatever car he likes.

BUT in this case its clear "My dad has $12k", and he is being a b1tch bout what car he gets. hence he is ungrateful

the likelyhood he's gonna hit something within a year of having this car is pretty high considering he's young. hey..we all do it.

the cost of repair for luxury cars and parts? oh no!

you should be pretty lucky that your dad is willing to spend $12k on a car. When my dad finally got me a car (which i am grateful) the limit was around $5000 and it ended up being a '93 Ford Explorer (or as i liked to call it, the 'Exploder) yea, it wasn't the prettiest or nicest car, but it was reliable enough and more than what i needed.

look all you haters. I've been driving my dad's 1983 turbo diesel for about 3.5 years now and that thing finally died on me. I've been through hell and back with that car and its got almost 400,000 miles on it. I've had to deal with the car stalling on the freeway, numerous engine failures, and not having airbag's for more than 3 years. Don't tell me I'm being spoiled, I want something that works, is reliable, and has good performance.

Now my dad said he would only pay $10,000, so I'm fronting $2000 on my own. I have saved up some cash from previous birthdays and old jobs. Is it wrong for me to want a car that's a little faster and looks better than a Camry? I'm trying to maximize the money that I'm allowed to spend, and I don't see a problem in wanting something just a little bit decent. After all I'm gonna have it for 3 more years so I'd rather have something that wouldn't break down.

Wow, if your dad is nice enough to buy you a car, don't bitch about it one bit =/ You're lucky you don't have my parents. I have to buy my own car, but on top of that it has to meet all their standards that I don't care about and are expenisve :( Oh well, 2k and saving :p

Well based on the above post, I believe Camry fits the bill. Maybe a used Accord. Or even a Civic. You're not going to need to spend 12k for a good used Camry, Accord, Civic if you're so concerned about having a car thats reliable and has good performance.

I just bought a black 2000 Maxima SE with a perfect body and interior for $12,000. It had 61,000 miles on it. Look around for one.

well I'm sorry you all grew up poor and your parents don't make any money. I don't have to feel sorry for the fact that my dad is very successful and makes a six figure income, and that your parents decided not to be successful. I'm tired of hearing this crap from poor kids, I've heard it my whole life, and I know I'm lucky and I am grateful.

lol.

edit:

Actually it's not funny, it's sad that our new breed of youth are turning into such whiney pussies like yourself. Being successful != earning lots of money. Some of the most important and successful people I know don't make very much money, but since everything in your factured little world seems to revolve around wealth and obtaining high priced posessions I can't blame you for not comprehending such a real world fact. Go complain about hearing real world advice aka "crap" in your mind from "poor kids" somewhere else because we have enough useless trash on these forums already.

Sudheer. I see what you're saying. Guys! All he's trying to do is maximize the purchase. Is there ANYTHING wrong with that? His dad is giving him 12k for a car, and suggesting (strongly) the Camry. He wants something else, and wants to prove to his father that other cars fit the bill. Is there ANYTHING wrong with that?

Just because my parents don't buy me a car doesn't mean I'm poor. It just means they don't spoil me like a little bitch in a way saying they are sorry for giving birth to such a loser.
