I am trying to explain that I can get a much better car for that kind of money. He won't listen to me and insists that a 4 cylinder engine is easier to fix and has less problems than a 6 cylinder engine. The car that I wouldn't mind getting is a 1997 Infinity I30 which is around $10,000-12,000, but he won't budge. I need some kind of proof to show him that this car won't break down more because of its engine and that it gets good mileage. He won't believe me when I show him the website statistics either.
Why don't you convince him to be less of a _niggard_ (;)) and spend some more?

Yup, same here. My parents prefer to pay my tuition rather then pay for cars and I am VERY grateful. For the amount they pay for my tuition they could buy a nicely equipped Accord each year. Instead, I drive a junker. It's a 1981 Cadillac Fleetwood I rescued from sitting outside my grandfather's till it rusted to pieces. I do the work on it myself, it looks terrible, and it has no airbags, etc. But you know what? It gets me where I need to go and I'm not sitting there ragging at people saying not to hate me because my dad has money (you're not the only kid who's dad makes a bit of money). I'm the middle of 5 kids and sending us to school makes money a bit tight, but my parents want us to have good educations, the cars are temporary what we learn is for life.

Oh and Sudheer,I did think people were hating on you a bit much until you went off and said that all us poor people were jealous because your dad was successful. News flash, being successful is only about money. There's alot of rich complete and utter failures as people.

Wow, some of you people are fvcking nuts.

So the kid gets a free car for his parents, so what? You couldn't even let this thread grow beyond the third post before jumping on him.

Tell me Soybomb, brunswickite and CorporateRecreation did any of you go to university or something similar? If so, how on earth did you keep from, like, going on a mass shooting spree? The University I'm attending has an Ivy League business school at it and is responsible for a ton of kids just like Sudheer. Hell, we're renowned for the preppies we got there! (Scholarships, students loans, and the fact that it's local are why I'm at that campus, before any of you get ideas.)

So really, I can't fault the kid for his old man forking out $10 000 for a car when I see kids in $40 000 BMWs and SUVs driving around campus on top of having their tuition and off campus appartments covered. And while there are those who come from money but don't act it... well, let's just say that when I'm standing at the bus stop and hear people complaining of their family's 10 country trip around Europe that summer, or where in the Caribbean they have the best concerts, I have to struggle not to push them in front of the bus

Of course you're to blame for a lot of it, too, Sudheer. Damn you stepped in it when you claimed people "chose" to be poor. Don't you know you never say that to people's face? Really, you should have left that alone and concentrated on the cars.

At any rate, best of luck with that foot removal surgery you'll need. (Whether it's the one he swallowed or the ones he's been kicked with I'll leave as an academic exercise to the reader)

Ever notice that people who spend money on beer, cigarettes, and lottery tickets are always complaining about being broke and not feeling well?

Sudheer. I see what you're saying. Guys! All he's trying to do is maximize the purchase. Is there ANYTHING wrong with that? His dad is giving him 12k for a car, and suggesting (strongly) the Camry. He wants something else, and wants to prove to his father that other cars fit the bill. Is there ANYTHING wrong with that?

Corporate Rec: dont be an a$$

Note to self, take into account what guapo337 thinks about him before posting again.

Note to self, take into account that corp rec is an ass....

i'm a dad with a teenage son who wants a car.....

my advise..
shut up.

your dad is entitled to spend his money anyway he wants.
when you make your own money, you can buy the car you want.
its not your right/obligation/duty/place to tell him anything about how to spend his money.

be grateful he's willing to get you anything..
