If you go back and read the last sentence of your post which I replied to, you tied your general point specifically to the issue of vaccines. Ignoring the consensus and suggesting that Fauci having a good resume was important here.

The right has tried to to turn this into a cult of personalities. They think that since Fauci is the most oft quoted expert, if they can somehow discredit this one person, then everything he says about Covid is then discredited as well. Never mind that they are mostly lying about Fauci. Far worse than that is the denial of the consensus which is implicit in their focus on one individual.

On a side note, I think you already know that predicting when a vaccine will be developed is not the exact science that reviewing a mountain of data to determine the safety and efficacy of an existing vaccine is. Nor is giving advice in the earliest stages of a pandemic where data is limited and understanding is evolving.
I hear what Fauci has to say not because I seek it out, it's just plain unavoidable. The fact that they keep shoving a microphone in his face doesn't impress me. Of course I respect the man, and he's no doubt over worked and I don't envy him his constant concern that every word he says is parsed and reparsed. I realize he'd digesting a lot of the same information that I am. There's no one person I go to for info... well, I like Dr. Mike Hansen's videos. They are 20x denser than Fauci's comments, no knock on Fauci. Hansen doesn't have people shoving a microphone in his face, he just likes making extensive relevant on point videos

Saw this article in my newsfeed. Not an encouraging outlook.

About three-fourths of people infected in a Massachusetts Covid-19 outbreak were fully vaccinated against the coronavirus with four of them ending up in the hospital, according to new data published Friday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
I think for sure the country is going to take a step back until vaccines vs the variants are developed. At least going back to masking and some social distancing requirements again. Just doesn't look promising.

Looking for consensus of scientific opinion might have been a reasonable thing to do back when vaccines first became available. It doesn't matter anymore, given that real life numbers leave all of that fading in the rear view mirror. The vaccines are both safe & effective, even if they're not as effective against the delta variant as we'd hoped. It's all we have. Thinking about it too much leaves easily confused Trump voters & some others frozen like deer in the headlights of a speeding semi, as intended by the assholery of right wing politicians & media.

At this point, my frustration with those who choose not to get vaccinated has turned to ANGER.

I understand there are some who are truly hesitant about the vaccine. The truth is that the underlying technologies used to create the mRNA vaccines have been around for a long, long time. I too wish that we could wait another year to properly test the vaccine. It's proven to be relatively safe, with no major side effects for the overwhelming majority of the people. We don't know the long term efficacy, or if there are any potential long term side effects. What we do know is for the overwhelming majority of people, there are no major side effects. We don't have that luxury of waiting right now. Everyone that can be vaccinated needs to get vaccinated.

At this point, I say let the assholes die if they want to. Give them until the end of 2021 and then start charging for the vaccine too. If a 3rd booster is needed, that should be free, but for anyone needing the initial doses and above 18 years of age, start charging them for it when they inevitably start getting scared and wanting the vaccine. Start denying federal aid for states that refuse to get vaccinated. Any state below 70% vaccination should just lose out on federal aid. Cause, fuck them. Because that's what they are saying to those of us who are trying to be responsible and getting vaccinated.

Pull the cord on Fox and any media that sports advice ads and campaigns that kills Americans. That will do it.

I know the message is doom and gloom with the vaccines now. But if you look at where it's spreading, it's in the lowest vaccinated areas in the country. If the vaccines weren't actually slowing the spread I'd think we'd see some spread in the densely populated, highly vaxxed areas.

The area I'm in had very low infection rates overall, but we're definitely seeing a spike.

Getting angry at the ignorant fools who believe various garbage about the vaccines is like yelling at clouds. We already knew a huge chunk of the country is misinformed, at best--youtube, facebook and one particular political party and their propaganda outlets have been spewing fake stuff for a long time now. One might say, but a pandemic and vaccines surely didn't need to become politicized--no, they surely did not. Trump had his part in that but it would have happened inevitably--the scientists and Democrats were for masks and vaccines, so opposition was there to be had.

If Obama had come out against the vaccines I'm convinced more people would now be vaccinated. Educated people would just ignore him as they'd know he's talking bullshit on a subject he knows nothing about; the rubes would do the opposite because that's what they do. While he was at it, I wish he'd have come out with his "climate change is a hoax" program so that Trump could have really started in on a plan for that too.

If there's any solace, they are darwining themselves right now. My relative who works in an icu is seeing his patients skewing younger and almost every one is unvaccinated. Dying isolated in an ICU drowning on dry land is more than I'd wish on my worst enemy though (not too mention the price we all will pay as medical people leave the profession in droves, hospitals are short-staffed at the best of times.)

We get it, you're butthurt.

So why does it make you angry if you just want them to die?

Nobody claimed it was 100% effective. Why do dudes like you have so much trouble understanding this? Let’s say an average of 92% effective, that means 8 people will get sick. The more unvaccinated people increases the risk of coming in contact with Covid.
This isn’t that difficult to figure out.

Yeah, cases are up everywhere, but New York and California looks much better than Missouri or Arkansas

Yeah on a relative basis cases in high vax areas are way lower than low vax areas. Which considering the infectiousness of Delta really is a testament to vaccine effectiveness. Not to mention the clear decoupling of hospitalizations and deaths from cases in the former due to the protection vaccines offer.

My current anger is currently due to:
Morons who can’t do basic math
Morons who believe something without basis like mRNA changes their dna and fuck if it did that’s the beginning of a Superhero origin
Morons who insist natural recovery is better AND cite information that says otherwise, I have a friend who does it frequently
Morons who believe they are special or have super powers like a friend of a friend. She proudly claimed her blood type is immune to Covid.

Really, really irritating on so many levels.

Hahahaha.. well much of it is due to dedicated misinformation media networks, cant really be mad at people without being super mad at Fox and kin.

I too have a friend that claims to be immune to Covid... guess why? He is a vegetarian. I shit you not. This dude is of course youtube educated as well and the scary part is he is not dum-dum beyond this total lack of common sense. Wont get the shot either cause its beta and Bill Gates. Wtf.

should have seen what happened a few weeks ago when I posted on a friends wife’s Facebook comment with that meme unvaccinated or vaccinated you have your beliefs or whatever the fuck it was.
I said “I don’t agree it is Patriotic to be vaccinated” and a shit storm arrived. Anything from “How dare you not respect my opinion” (how about respecting meats opinion?) to sheep (I’m not the guy to take a insult from some random, kept asking her to clarify what she meant but she ran away) to the above. A good friend kept citing info about his natural recovery being better but if you spent ANY time reading the source they all said being vaccinated is better/safer/you should do it anyways. For whatever reason he refuses to read beyond the headline and absolutely won’t read past the first paragraph.

Vegetarian wife does pretty good, she does get sick but it is rare and typically a day or two kind of sick.
BTW vegans drive her nuts. Funny to see her reactions to someone who says they’re vegan. She’s like No Wine? No Honey? No Cheese?

1: Hit him with the fact Jobs was a vegetarian, and died of cancer.
2: Hitler was too, and he was a basket case of medical issues.
3: Tell him being a vegetarian, is the fastest way to tell us, you are a beta, without telling us, you are a beta.
4: Enjoy the mental gymnastics.
