Hi,

I have an M.2 256gb SSD from Toshiba (model THNSNJ256GVNU, exactly like this one) which I must connect to a computer to recover data from.

My computer does not have a M.2 connector, so I looked for an adapter. I've just bought an Akasa M.2 SSD to PCIe adapter card, connected to a PCIe 2.0 slot on my Windows 7, but nothing happened.

On the akasa adapter itself I can read the following disclaimer:

Note: This adapter does not support SATA M.2 SSD.
For PCI-E M.2 (NGFF) SSD 2230 2242 2260 2280 22110

The adapter has a "M KEY" socket, the Toshiba M.2 is a 2280 with a "B & M KEY" connector.

So can I have your opinions on why this didn't work?

  1. This Toshiba has a M.2 connector but it is a sata SSD? So the adapter does not work with it?
  2. Could it be something to do with Windows 7? It installed some drivers automatically, but no controller/drive appeared.
  3. Which adapter should I look for if the akasa one is not right for the job?
  4. The adapter is a PCIe x4, so it should work when connected to a PCIe x16 2.0, correct?

Thanks in advance.
