Except that using silicon chips isn't causing us cancer unlike burning fossil fuels.
Weaponized social media and email leaks allowed a hostile nation to hijack our election and insert a President that will most likely destroy any hope of our controlling climate change, and come to find out that most of the major social media players were well aware of what was going on and yet did nothing.

I see political engagement as a civic responsibility and don’t subscribe to the lesser of two evils as particularly inspiring.
Yes I am aware of that but are you self aware enough to realize that it is a result of your conditioned hatred of liberals? Could you ever realize that is why you demand perfection from Democrats before you will stop calling them evil?

Hard to doubt either assessment.

Now tell us how you want to fix it. And don't hold back because most of us don't want to be pawns of Putin and the GRU.

Social media players were victims as well. Don't blame the victims but rather give the winners their due. That's right- What we were subjected to is the greatest campaign of propaganda & misinformation ever executed by Russian psy-ops. It was a tour de force in fucking with our minds on behalf of Donald Trump.

Why did they do that? Because they know he's poison to us.

Impeachment for Trump and investigations into any and all lobbyists or consultants with any financial ties to Russia. I have complete faith in Mueller and his team.

For good measure, an independent counsel should also look into the handling of the Clinton email investigation, as it certainly played a role in all of this.

Competently run investigations into Facebook and Twitter at the very least to understand what they knew and when.

Independent of the Russian investigation, internet privacy laws and regulations that are drafted by consumer rights and privacy groups, not tech companies and ISPs. This seems to be a good topic for Senator Warren to lead on.

Not sure where you set the boundaries but this is where I would start.

I don’t hate liberals. I don’t care for some of the petulant children of P&N who also happen to be liberals. For the sake of simplicity it is easy to make broad generalizations. I am guilty of it as much as anyone else. I don’t think I’ve ever called liberals evil. Arrogant, naive, alarmist and myopic at times, but never evil. I am happy to say that Trump is evil and that he inspires evil people to do evil things.

You literally called Democrats the lesser of two evils two posts ago.

That's not hard. Like shooting fish in a dry barrel easy.

Technically the water in the barrel is what makes it easy because the shock from the shot will kill all the fish in the barrel.

The pressure shock wave from a bullet being fired into a barrel is enough to kill a fish.
CONFIRMED

The MythBusters calculated that the lethal amount of force required to kill a fish is 8.15 pounds per square inch. However, the instrument that measured PSI was not fast enough to register the impact of the bullet, so the MythBusters instead opted to use special stickers that measure G force. After firing a single 9 mm bullet into the barrel, the MythBusters found that the shock wave from the bullet was enough to trip even their highest pressure sensor. This means that the shooter does not necessarily have to hit the fish in order to kill it.

No argument there other than you are killing them with the shock wave, not actually shooting them. A barrel with fish covering the bottom of it makes them pretty damned easy to shoot.

Hopefully you are intelligent enough to realize that just because you say something doesn't mean that it's true...buddy.

You're not really good at confronting someone who sees how you operate and says something about it, are you? This time your response is to turn what I pointed out to you into a non-sequitur like it's some kind of checkmate! gotcha. I'll let you call this exchange a win for you (I don't want you to waste the victory dance you are doing right now) and come back later when I feel like picking this conversation back up. Carry on and better luck next time in responding when someone politely points out that despite all of your denials, you are a conservative bullshit artist.

A particularly poor one at that.

So much for personal responsibility. Stupid Americans, our government should definitely babysit their dumb asses.

Don’t bother coming back. It’s not worth you’re time. Your time is better spent doing what you are best at...starting alarmist threads to satisfy your insecure fragile ego.

I have no respect for someone who thinks debate with strangers is about winning and losing. There is nothing to win and nothing to lose. I don’t initiate dialogue with you because you have nothing interesting to say. You chose to engage me.

You are not as clever or as smart as you think you are. I see right through your bullshit.

All edge no point. Goodbye friend.

greedy executives, putting shareholder value and profit over an assault on our democracy

Haha, Facebook is a choice, Twitter is a choice, why do you hate America?

I grew up with parents who told me not to believe everything I see on the website, now I have parents who believe everything they see on the internet. Stupid americans, good thing those small government republicans are so willing to abandon their professed values. Next up, healthcare for all, because greedy insurance executives have had a long run and put shareholder value and profit above our democratic values.

May I become the first to welcome you to the democratic socialist party. Good to have you aboard.

Let's break this down a bit. First... Hi, asshole!

Second, you said "It's not worth you are time". Sounds literate coming out of you.

Third, my ego is quite secure, unlike yours and the way you flail when called out. Really, you need to sit back and cool off before responding. You might actually be able to make a cogent point.

Fourth, "I have no respect". Let's just leave it there because that describes you perfectly.

Fifth, you are the one trying to win whatever it is you are trying to win. I'm just pointing out that you are full of crap and you seem to have problems trying to pull your foot out of your mouth long enough to say something that makes sense in response.

Sixth, I never said that I was smart or clever but thank you very much for thinking I am! That's a nice way to start my day. :)

Seventh, that's your bullshit that you are looking though. It's just piling up in front of you.

Eighth, and lastly, you've straddled that edge and slid on down. I hope you've enjoyed the ride.

Now be sure to impotently fire back some witty retorts so you can do another victory dance at your end. See ya next time, asslick.

This thread has degenerated to a name calling contest, so I'm going to attempt to get some useful conversation going again before I just ignore this whole thread, and here is something actually worth talking about.

greedy executives, putting shareholder value and profit over an assault on our democracy

This is a problem, and honestly I have no idea what to do about it. Social media has become an important part of American (and really world) culture. It kind of depends on the ability for people to post about the things they are thinking about, which means we can't really heavily regulate content without killing what makes social media work. There is just not many ways to filter out the real content from propaganda, because propaganda works by getting normal people to repeat it. Simply put propaganda when well done is real content for social media, and I for one don't want what would end up amounting to a 'thought police' that tells us what we can and can't talk about, because that is going to get corrupted almost instantly.

Holding social media responsible after the fact seems wrong as well when we can't even come up with some way that they could have prevented it. So, what do we do? Any ideas?
