It's not fixing the story it's adding side content to expand on the side characters who have things happen off screen.

What happens is a character asks to go off on his own for a while and he does. He comes back later with a new scar. He brushes it off as "a story for another time" and that's that. Now they are going to add content to let us see what happened. You are misrepresenting what they are doing. They aren't fixing anything but adding on to the small unimportant things that leave you thinking "I'd like to see what he did while he was away".

More like adding stuff that should've been there to begin with. The half assery in story telling in this game is obvious. When have you ever had to Google stuff or watch a completely separate animated movie to get a feel for the story and game world?

Could be wrong, but they aren't adding the story from the anime or movie, but rather side events for the companions. Nothing being put in the DLC helps with the core story.

Destiny...all the backstory and lore was in a grimoire you unlock by playing and finding cards and such but you have to read it on a web browser. That was worse IMO.

Yeah, that's true. Now that I think back on it, all I cared about was playing with friends. I don't remember ever really caring about the story lol. Final Fantasy though has no excuse, with its reputation and being a single player RPG.

I haven't started the game, but I've finally watched Kingsglaive. It was an okay movie overall. There was a whole lot of spectacle, but not exactly much substance. Probably the most interesting thing was seeing a lot of these monsters from previous games being brought into this world such as Behemoth, Cerberus, Marlboro and one of the Weapons. I did watch it in Japanese, which was a little awkward, because the subtitles were timed to the English audio not the Japanese audio... and they didn't exactly match either. (I can understand some Japanese, and usually enough to pick apart a translation.) It was usually small things that didn't have any effect on the story though.

My biggest complaint is probably that it didn't have much of anything to do directly with the main characters from the game. It would feel a bit more like a companion piece if it included them in more than a scene from 12 years prior, and that was really just Noctis.

Well, Kingsglaive at least showed what happened to Regis and Luna while Noctis was out fishing and killing sabertusks. The anime series was decent for background on the characters.

Finished, and... Le sigh. 10 years of development?! They left behind SO. MUCH. POTENTIAL. Quite a bit just felt tacked on and unnecessary, or out of place. Mostly hate how they ended it. Mixed feelings about this game.

It wasn't 10 years development, it just took that long to get something released. FF verses 13 was canned and they took much of it and reworked it. They really only had a few years to get it in it's current state. Not an excuse, just an observation.

From what I recall, Versus XIII never got cancelled, but rather, it was in development quagmire due to resources being pulled to work on main Final Fantasy titles and such. It also suffered a large delay due to the console swap from the PS3 to the PS4. The reason why the game finally got released is because Square-Enix needed a new main Final Fantasy title, and Versus XIII, while still in the Fabula Nova Crystallis world (the universe that XIII is based in), was different enough from XIII to suit a new title.

And the game still sucks. Most boring FF game I have ever played with the lousiest intro. The intro did not make me want to keep playing.

No intro in gaming has ever "made" me want to keep playing. You either do it or you don't. There's never once been a game that has something happen in the beginning that is so alluring that I can't stop. In fact some of the best games I've played have started pretty uninterestingly for me but other factors come to light later and I really enjoy what is on offer. When I originally played Zelda Ocarina of Time for example I was bored to tears in the Kokiri Forrest village which is the basically the introduction to the game. I kept going and found a lot to like about the game. Tales of Symphonia, Last of Us, God of War, Skyrim, witcher 3, Xenogears, Metal Gear Solid, Halo...all great games that took a bit to warm up to for me but as it turns out I really enjoy the hell out of them in the end. Their introductory mission, scene, story etc wasn't enough on its own.

This is really no different. I enjoy the battle system quite a bit, though now I have very little to do except repeat monster hunts. Also the fishing is pretty good as well. Different bait works for different fish and trying to catch everything is really a challenge. The point is that just because a game's first minutes seem boring doesn't mean the whole game will be. I've found this to be true countless times. There are various faults but I don't think a lack of exciting introduction is one of them considering how many other games I didn't get hooked on in the first 10 minutes.

I think his point is the intro to this game is just not good at all and I will have to agree with him, but that doesn't mean the game is bad.

FF7 had me hooked in the first 10 mins. So did FF6. FF8 while flawed at least kept the beginning interesting enough for me to finish the game. The intro to FF10 was fantastic as well. Intros are supposed to either make you care about the characters or at least interest you enough to keep playing when it comes to an RPG. This game did neither of those things. I could care less about noctis and his bros.

Definitely see where you're coming from. Had I not watched the Kingsglaive movie and the anime series, I probably would've lost interest once I asked myself "wtf is this game about?". Again, having to learn game story outside of the game is stupid IMO. Honestly I don't know how people who've NOT watched any of those can play this game and have any understanding of what the hell the story is about. Most characters are forgettable. I would've put MUCH less time into it were I not a side quest whore who also wanted to max out each characters skills. To top it off,
EVERYONE IN THE BOY BAND F#*&ING DIES! INCLUDING THE DAMN CAR!

I feel I got my $40 worth, but I was let down.
