I think I'm just as confused as Conan is. But it really does look from the video like SE has limited what is able to be shown - there is no battling at all in what Conan showed. But it looks like this is likely in the hands of reviewers now, so only a bit left until release finally.

Conan isn't good at actually reviewing games, so you have to take with grain of salt, but he is usually kind of funny in a "I'm a big asshole and you should know it" kind of way. Entertaining video if nothing else.

Kind of has a Red Dead kind of style to it almost... er maybe its just hard to tell. Without seeing the battle system.

They gave him a bunch of random stuff in the game that are basically filler to the story and don't connect. No wonder he's confused and thinks it's boring. They showed a lot of open world aspects that didn't have any context.

They aren't doing themselves ANY favors when they say stuff like "it takes 72 real time hours to beat this monster". That's the absolute worst filler I've ever heard of. "Oh our game has 200 hours of content" yeah but almost half of it is hitting a monster that won't die until you've done it for 3 days. WTF!?

That said there is a demo on the japanese PSN store that you can download and it's the first hour of the full game. Some have said that they have spent nearly 20 hours exploring and doing whatever in the demo. So that's something. I'm just REALLY worried when they outright show you that you have to push your car after it breaks down that's just...I don't know the words but that doesn't make a good game, nor does having to spend 3 days fighting a monster to actually beat it and that's one that I just can't wrap my head around. It's like people who hated games made this and did everything they could to make it get bad reviews and not sell well for filler content and nonsense just made to waste your time.

I hope that 72 hours thing was a joke to go along with Conan's skit and not a true statement. The guy who said it is there on every Clueless Gamer segment I've seen so he isn't any authority specifically on FF XV. The current rumor I've read is that the fight takes place over 72 hours but it's not a traditional fight. You won't be standing there hitting it and dodging for 72 hours. The best guess I've seen is it's a quest line that takes you through various stages of the fight and you need specific items to do damage and much of the real time is waiting or completing other requirements to hit the next part of the quest.

Or, it's 72 in game hours which is 3 real life.

I'm so torn on this game. I'm generally a big Final Fantasy fan, but I just can't figure out if I'll like this game or not. There are some preorder bonuses and stuff I'll miss out on but I think my current plan is just to wait until Christmas to see what the consensus is.

They give you Japanese voices if you pre-order, which is enough to make me want to do it. :p

Wait...is that true? 72 hours to beat a boss? If this is true I'm going to request a refund instead of picking this game up. No way do i want to battle a boss for 72 f*&$#@! hours.

Nobody knows. The guy who said it doesn't work for SE. The best guesses I have read involve it being a long quest with the fight happening in phases, not a constant 72hour battle. Like you battle it for a while, it retreats then you have to complete some quests or wait some time to bait it out again and continue. Others have also said there is a dungeon inside of it that you have to unlock and beat but you do not have to do it all in a row, you can leave and come back.

Plus it's probably one of those optional super bosses that you don't really do until end game. They have no context for the 72 hour number. Is that if you are using starting gear at low level? There is too much unknown to take it at face value.

In other news SE announced that they will have a Pro patch soon after launch that gives you two options. 4K @ 30fps or 1080p @ 60fps. They are supporting hdr as well

My 4k tv supports 1080p so either is good. If it is something like you suggest then I'd be ok with that. So far I have not been impressed with the video gameplay I have seen. The out door running around is looking good but the rest...we'll see. I may wait a day or two to pick up my preorder just to make sure I want it. I enjoyed past FF games mostly but the cut scenes do get to me if too prolonged.

All 4K tvs accept a 1080p signal. It will have to scale it to the native 4K anyhow in the end but at least you have the option to go for higher resolution or higher frame rate.

If people are spending 10+ hours on the new demo that is out in Japan which is the first hour of the full game, that's not a bad sign. It means there is a lot to explore and it is at least good enough to spend that much time on.

Also the gameplay you saw before, maybe from previous demos is not what the game is like at all. The new demo is completely different than what we saw before.

I tried the Japanese demo and preordered the game because of it. I didn't know what was going on or anything but the world was pretty good and the game looks great.

Nothing about this looks fun so far. At all. After FFXIII, I will be waiting until a big sale most likely (and on PC if it/when it gets there). .

That was hilarious but I'd still buy it if I had a PS4.

And Conan did his job. Seeing links to this in more than a few places. Lot of "free" advertising even if it's negative but I don't think many care what Conan thinks in the comedy bit.

I don't expect it to come to PC ever to be quite honest as the last few main entries didn't. This game feels far different than FF XIII. I spent 3 hours on the Judgement Disc (demo on Japan's PSN store) and it's only supposed to be an hour of the final game. I didn't even finish all there was to do. That's quite a feat IMO. I can easily go back and play more. Even when it's all in Japanese and I don't know what's going on or what the tutorials are telling me or who anyone is, I still wanted to keep going and explore the world. All the previous playable stuff should be thrown out because the combat is very different than most of what we saw before. The game is really beautiful looking and the demo is even in HDR which surprised me. The animations are fluid and all that. It will take some getting used to the combat I think but part of that might be because I don't know what the game is trying to tell me each button does exactly.

Yeah anyone who knows Clueless Gamer knows it's for comedy but I am sure they got an ear full about the "72 hours to beat this monster? You're wasting people's time" bit. Saying something like that with zero context can make some people overreact. I've seen this nonsense on other forums. At first I did too, but then I did some reading and there are very reasonable possibilities for it even if it does actually require 72 hours of time.

What main entries are you referring to....practically everything has even 0 or whatever it was...but either way, I'm not going to get a PS4 to play it. 13 was so bad, and this looks like they took all the negatives from 13 and made a Skyrim type game out of it. Just no interest at this time. If the reviews say otherwise, I might change my mind...but so far...meh.

I meant within a reasonable time frame. I don't call waiting 5 years for a release after it's been out on console reasonable. Poor wording on my part, shouldn't have said ever.

Ah, no worries, had me confused for second. Yea, I'm not too concerned about the timeframe at this point as I have such a backlog to get through, and it still growing.

I bought a Wii U for X and Zelda. X was nothing like I expected so I skipped it, and well..no Zelda. In the same vein SE just isn't what it used to be so I'll wait to see how it pans out.

If I hadn't played the newest demo I may have played wait and see too. I don't feel I'll dislike the game based on what I have played. It probably won't be a Witcher 3 type of experience for me but that's tough for any game to live up to.

I hear Wood is kind of a dick. As for FF, I think I stopped playing after 12.

About what I expected. The biggest negatives seem to be that the story is more character based rather than the traditional final fantasy grand plot line, and that some of the things to do in the game are mundane every day tasks that people don't want to do in a game like stopping for gas to fill the car. Though some reviewers said that these moments allow the characters to chat and it furthers the development of their friendship and close bond a bit.

I didn't expect it to be a 90+ game, it's too niche for that unless it's coming from a hardcore fan of the series and Jrpgs in general. I also am glad it didn't bomb and isn't a total let down. A solid 8/10 feels about right to me. Of course some people are going overboard elsewhere with the "10 year development and the game is only an 8/10?!" nonsense. An 8/10 is a very good score for any game IMO. Not game of the year overall but it's not bad. I wonder how some people even play any games when they need everything to be 9/10 or higher to call it good. When did it become a thing that any game that doesn't get at least an 8.5 is considered bad?

It reminds me of a MMO, and that includes the awful, fluff quests that you don't want to do. A friend of mine pretty much swore off the game once he saw some YouTube video about a quest to feed a cat. (I doubt he would've bought it anyway, but whatever. :p)
