Yea, because management has policy against ca2635ed1.jpg, and the system specifically checks for any instances of ca2635ed1.jpg on all computers... Care to tell me another one? These stories are getting good :^S

I used to do scans for new .avi and .mp3, and if your computer had either I would be notified... So yes, it is possible.

Or another example, what if user folders are backup?

Or another, she *thinks* she deleted all of them but more are found. They do a recovery scan (to look for deleted files) and see that these images were deleted while the laptop was in her possession.

Just because you're totally ignorant of how corporate system monitoring works doesn't mean it doesn't. People at my workplace were fired for IMs about fantasy football. Having these particular images discovered may be a longshot, but it happens.

Someone here was severely reprimanded when he sent an email to the entire company trying to setup a fantasy football league (complete with paypal i.e. credit processing or "cash" options!!!)

lxskllr,

While your point is quite understandable, the corporate (actually most of the job world) is always going to look for a scapegoat.

You do not accept your place in society. You have a grudge against certain classes, and you think upward mobility in stratification is completely out of your control. So you easily pass stereotypes to rationalize your current status.

This is what I think will be the final update on this. Just got a call from the IT Dept. about getting together with me to set up this computer properly for what I need to use it for, accessing our computers at the main location. The IT guy mentioned that I had found inappropriate pictures on there. He said he checked into it and the pictures were downloaded in 2007. He said he found all sorts of things on there and he is going to delete all the garbage. I was not even working there in 2007.

He also said there are too many log-ins and he is going to set it up so that only I have a log-in and password because too many people have access to log in on a computer that only I should be using at this time.

End of story.

Happy Holidays everyone. :)

No people at your organization were fired because they were likely involved in gambling or some other serious offense or detriment to the organization.

It's easy to get the facts twisted at work, and people usually believe in the first irrational information they hear.

I don't see how that contradicts or adds any information to what I said. Yes, fantasy football is banned because it's considered a form of gambling. I didn't think I needed to make that clear. The point is that even some intra-office IMs were examined and used to terminate employees for a seemingly innocuous offense that is nonetheless unarguably against company policy. It's not irrational to expect inappropriate images could be discovered on a company-owned machine connected to their network.

Some people are talking about not "ratting out" co-workers. How fucking stupid and pathetic. The good old gangster mentality.
Why in the world should anybody cover up a co-worker's transgressions, especially when it involves potential child abuse.
Some people say delete it and carry on as if nothing has happened. Ya right, what if there is a lot more stuff like this on the hard drive? How about the browser's history?
Mosh did the right thing by reporting this to IT. They know the policies and they can decide if this is serious or not.
It would have been wiser for Mosh not to talk about this to anybody else. Now her co-workers might find out about this and witout the exact details, they will form opinions just like the people in here. Some will praise Mosh and some will hate her.
There are also people in here who can also find out where Mosh works and could even inform her workplace of this thread. Not a good thing.
It's a no win situation at this point for Mosh.

What was actually found was a cached version of your avatar. It was mistaken for two underage girls, when in fact it's just you trying to kiss your own right eyeball.

You're not even close to being funny. That wasn't even a good effort.

I'm sorry, I'll make a note of my poor performance and try to do better next time. I'll start with the tried-and-true demand for pics in threads like this one.

That's running a professional(!) gambling operation on company time. Not only is it illegal, it takes people's mind and time away from the job. A bit different from finding a picture on a computer.

I wonder if you feel a little foolish now, because you should. Next time at least check the created/modified dates on the files before you start making assumptions about who put them there. I think we all assumed that you had at least done that.

Read the updates toolsheds. Pics are supposedly from 2007. Funny no one else found them.

I hope the IT guy saved a copy before he deleted them.

They're the IT guy's pictures, and he just managed to dodge a bullet.

[q]I opened it and inside were a dozen pictures of two young females, definitely under age, probably about 14-15 years old, engaged in some kissing and fondling of each other. [/q]

How old do you think she is?

my point:
How do you know they're age 15? they could be legal, and just look young.

Not only that, but since when is it illegal for someone to take a picture of 15 year old girls kissing, so long as they're clothed? Just because someone may be underage does not mean they're automatically "illegal".

Where did I say they were illegal? You all need to get your friggin facts straight or shut the frick up. FFS, a bunch of half ass twits who can't even comprehend wtf is going on in this thread and just come in spouting off half ass comments based on incorrect assumptions.

The pictures were INFUCKINAPPROPRIATE to be on a work computer. That is the issue. Got it? The images have now been deleted, POOF, gone! The issue is not an issue now.

so did they belong to the person you thought they belonged to given that you now know the date of them ? Has he been punished/fired ?

I didn't accuse anyone irl of anything. What I said here was a hunch, and I'm not sure my hunch was right. I know of no disciplinary action being taken because, as i said, i was told the pics were uploaded in 2007, and who knows who was using the computer then. i was not even working there then.

Issue is resolved as far as I'm concerned. I am moving forward.

you expected anything else from OT? honestly i'm kinda shocked that there was any real discussion relating to your predicament at all.
