Final Update:

This is what I think will be the final update on this. Just got a call from the IT Dept. about getting together with me to set up this computer properly for what I need to use it for, accessing our computers at the main location. The IT guy mentioned that I had found inappropriate pictures on there. He said he checked into it and the pictures were downloaded in 2007. He said he found all sorts of things on there and he is going to delete all the garbage. I was not even working there in 2007.

He also said there are too many log-ins and he is going to set it up so that only I have a log-in and password because too many people have access to log in on a computer that only I should be using at this time.

End of story.

Happy Holidays everyone :)

I was going to say to turn the laptop into authorities, but since the pictures are technically legal, I think the only actions that can be taken are within the company.

If you want to do something about it, tell your boss. If you don't, don't.

There really is no inbetween...

I'd delete them, and not say anything. Nothing illegal has happened, and nothing that concerns anybody else.

Most things on laptops I've found I could care less about, but kiddie porn I'd report it just for the fact that I don't want someone coming back and saying I was the last one to use it.

Thanks for getting that response out of the way. :p Thankfully, I don't have the office laptop with me.

No problem, I like to do typical ATOT responses early so they can be done with.

Is there any way he can link the laptop to you personally? I would send him an anonymous email either asking about it or asking him not to do it again, if at all possible. I would also delete the pictures, but I don't know if this would have consequences regarding evidence, ownership, blame, etc etc.

I don't know what I want to do. I really don't want to get involved, but there are those pictures of under age girls saved on a computer I am using and frankly, it's bugging me.

depends on what type of relationship you have with this guy. reporting him will probably get him fired. But if you dont report this, he could easily blame you for those pics

but then again, how do you know for sure that it was him who put those pictures there?
I say just delete them and pretend it never happened, esp since those pics aren't technically illegal

WWYD?
I opened it and inside were a dozen pictures of two young females, definitely under age, probably about 14-15 years old, engaged in some kissing and fondling of each other. They were fully clothed.

unfortunately we need a bit more detail before we can say what the right thing to do is. Please describe the clothes they were wearing, pigment of their skin, and any other noticeable physical details. then describe the kissing, but do it slowly, and describe it like you mean it. same thing with the fondling.

Who the hell will know about them? Burden of proof's on the accuser.

You know there is a HUGE market for girls who look 14 or 15 but are actually age of consent? Even so, two minor teenagers kissing and fondling sounds like something that was probably done with the full consent of the said teenagers. This kind of behavior for the cameras is all the rage among adolescents and very young adults these days, you know. Maybe he didn't take the photo, just downloaded it.

I would normally find some humor here, but this situation is weighing on me heavily right now otherwise I never would have brought it up here. I really need some advice.

Ugh... yeh, he needs to be fired and for more reasons than this. I just think those who I'd report him to are in bed with him anyway so to speak and nothing would come of it.

If you're worried about his superiors you may be able to take it directly to HR.

Do you have to log into your own account to delete files? If so, I wouldn't delete them and just take it to HR.

Regardless, I would take it to HR.

There are photos, like 12 of them, same girls in different poses. I don't think he took them. I think he downloaded them. Just a hunch.
