i really couldn't see any down side to it, which is why i ask. HR seems to think we might get burnt out with 10hr days, but i figure 3days off would fix that.

Also, our pto is accrued at 1.7 days per month, it isn't calculated by hr. They said it would STILL accrue at 1.7 days with the compressed work week!! WOOT!

1.7x8 = 13.6hrs of pay per pto day
1.7x10=17hrs of pay per pto day

We're fighting with corporate to get 4/10s. Oh to have a 4 day weekend every other weekend... I'm doing 5/10s now, the money's good but the time off sucks.

The other obvious advantage is saving money on gas and vehicle maintenance.

I would gladly have done four 10s. When I worked at my last hourly job, my dept didn't offer it but another did. They loved it and I was envious.

I'm salaried - we work a 9/80 schedule - 9 hour days, every other Friday off (and 8 hours on the Fridays we do work).

It is one of the primary reasons I am still working here.

That's how it was for me when I worked at the World Bank. I would work 3 16 hour days if I could get Monday and Friday off :=)

LOL hell i'd work 48 hours straight if i could get the other 5 days off!

My wife loved that when she was a firefighter.

Well, my problem with that was when you are a consultant, you never work less than 12 hours a day anyways ...

Also one must consider the efficiency of a 48 hour work day(s) ... I said 16 hours but not sure if I would be 100, heck 80% efficient at 16 hours straight.

Yeah, the benefit of fire houses: Beds, kitchens, entertainment, workout room, showers, etc, etc...

I already work 10hr days X 5 so this would be most welcomed (if I were salaried again).

I did 4-10s at my last job. It was ok. The weekends were nice, but I had a very boring job so the 10 hour shift was brutal. I ended up switching to a 4-9-4...M-T 9 hour days, then a half day on Friday. Worked out well.

I've done 5x8, 4x10, 3x12. Even though the 3x12 was over the weekend it was by far the best shift. Three days tired and working, four days off.

Sadly I'm salary now... 5x9+

To folks with long shifts: Do you like your jobs quite a bit? I can only imagine /wrists if I had to be at my desk any longer each day...

Then again, my job tends to be very tedious. I think nightly breaks keep me more sane than long days with long weekends would.
