<< Mark: The game has change tremendously offensively... but, since when does offense win anything? Goes to show how much you've played the game. >>

Fine then, Kobe has won first/second team all defense 2 years in a row. At the age of 21/22. Michael didn't win it till like 25 or 26.

kobe is starting earlier no doubt about that
but kobe doesn't possess as much hangtime as your royal "airness"

jordan is also an excellent businessman
time will tell about kobe

Stalinator: age doesn't matter, it's experience in the league you foolish Laker fan. Hehe.

Mark: Out of 13 NBA seasons, Jordan made it to the All-Defensive 1st Team (not 2nd) 9 times. 2 of the 13 seasons, he sat out and played less than 20 games due to injuries. Go figure.

Kobe made 2nd team this year... big deal. In my book, for the 5 seasons he's been in the league, he's already behind Jordan (in terms of defense). He better make it to the All-Defensive 1st team for the rest of his life if he wants to catch god's records.

One more thing, when Jordan was born, he was an All-Star. He has NEVER failed to make it to the All-Star team in his entire career.

Why are you guys even comparing the rest of the lakers to the rest of the bulls? Just look at the best two players on each team. Shaq and Kobe vs. Jordan and Pippen. Now you gonna tell me that Jordan's supporting cast (Pippen) is as good as Kobe's supporting cast (Shaq). There's no argument. With that beast in the lane, Jason Williams would be on the NBA's first-team defense. A good shot blocker and intimidator like Shaq will erase any of your perimeter mistakes for you. People are scared to drive to the whole on him.

As far as Kobe vs. Jordan specifically, wake up. In Jordan's fifth year in the league, he was averaging approx. 30pts/game. Kobe only about 28pts/game. I know it ain't fair though, cuz he's not the primary scorer. So I'll give you that, but his jump shot (if you know anything about playing the game) is not technically sound. It has too little arc. You may think it looks nice when it bullets straight at the net, but unless he changes it, his shot isn't gonna be consistent as he gets older.

Too many of you Kobe fans are caught up in the media hype. The NBA IS propagating Kobe as the next league spokesman. Adidas IS trying to develope the next Jordan with Kobe's commercials. You can't tell me you don't see it when a Kobe commercial just shows him contemplating things about life. For christ's sake, who made him the next great philosopher let alone a college grad? Just because he knows Italian doesn't mean he's smarter than the average high school kid. And just because the league's not letting Kobe hit up the party's and the strip clubs doesn't mean he's "mature." He's selling an image. The league's selling an image. Addidas is selling an image. And unfortunately, you're all eating it up.

Until Kobe goes to his own team and carries them through a whole season and the playoffs, he'll never be great. He can score all day long but as long as he's under Shaq's shadow he'll never be the best or the greatest. He'll just be another Scottie, who wasted his best years under a bigger star and had nothing left when it came time to lead his own team. Kobe needs to leave the Lakers, not because I hate the "laker dynasty" but because I want to see what he can do. So until Kobe racks up the championship rings (himself) and the MVP trophies (himself) and the scoring titles (himself) and the all nba first team defense (himself), Kobe lovers can't say a thing. Just gloat while you got him, Lakers fans but you're missing out. You talk of his potential but he'll never reach it without his own team.

<< why do people try to act like they know about a subject when its so obvious they dont? >>

I wish you would tell us

<< as ive pointed out before you can look at iverson to disprove the "if Shaq wasn't there Kobe would suck" argument. iverson averaged 22pts on 41% w/ stackhouse on his team, and since stackhouse has left hes averaging 30pts on 42%. stackhouse is averaging something like 27pts since he left iverson as well (he averaged ~20 when he played w/ iverson). >>

You can't compare Stackhouse/Iverson to Kobe/Shaq because Stackhouse was not a post player (never commanded a double team) and was not the main offensive threat. You can't even try to draw that stretched comparison because there are so many other variables involved.

It's a different situation. Shaq makes teams focus on him because his shots in the paint are a lot higher percentage than Kobe's and because he is so physical he is often double-teamed. If there was no Shaq, Kobe would be doubled, and silenced.

Kobe scored 33 points in a game vs Michael Jordan in his rookie year, off the bench as well I believe.

heh, I doubted if Kobe would have even been a starter that one year when Chicago owned the NBA.

This topic can not seriously even be considered for at least another 3 or 4 years.

I also believe Kobe has never hit a game winning shot. Jordan did that in College for UNC even when they had James Worthy who was the star at the time.

Don't forget to add that Kobe never drafted a high school player as the first pick in the NBA draft.... that has to be one of the most stupid things I've ever seen. Talk about lack of experience, I mean... Kobe came into the NBA out of high school and is doing well... he must've been a trend setter because there are 4 high schoolers within the top 10 draft picks. How stupid.
