Relic reports there?s a bug in the 158.18 drivers that prevents display of effects, and also those drivers have performance optimizations for DX10.

It's not supposed to be like that, Relic says. I'm hoping they'll be fixed next driver release...

there are beta drivers on nvidias website that include better performance for dx10 in coh. Havent tried em personally but i have heard that performance is still bad. 8800gts and core 2 with beta 158.18 brought performance down to a crawl in dx10 mode. usually i get around 100 fps average in dx9 maxed out! gotta try the drivers but i hope optimizations continue to be patched. I believe we cant judge dx10 performance on this patch because the game code is dx9 at heart. We'll have to wait for crysis 😀

Well COH brought my system to a crawl...

QX6700
8800GTX 158.45 Beta drivers
4GB XMS2
Vista Ultimate64
Res 1920X1200
Dell 2707WFP

Average frame rate 32.9

Maximum frame rate 60.9

Minimum frame rate 8.7

Graphic settings for the game maxed out except for AA

either that or nvidia's dx10 drivers suck :Q

anyone with a 2900 willing to try it? 🙂

Ahh yes...I forgot all about Nvidia's driver! 😀

wtf did you expect given the list of graphical improvements you just posted? having a DX10 capable card doesn't make those improvements 'free', it just means you can actually display those improvements. it doesn't guarantee they'll be at playable fps.

Of course it can be fixed. DX 10 SLi doesnt work, but it seems like noAA performance = 16xAA performance on G80 cards. Look at nvnews, since they are using all sorts of drivers to see how it affects performance.

LMAO@the guys suggesting nV driver immaturity as the reason the AMD card does better  Same asshats lambasting AMD for their drivers not being rock solid@release since the card hit so much later than the 8800 series, no doubt. If the 8800 series proves unbalanced in DX10 performance, and the 2900 can provide significantly better min FPS in the same titles, it'll be the FX debacle all over again. Then things will get interesting again.

Exactly. Claiming driver immaturity is ridiculous because the 8800 has been out for how long now? And isn't COH a TWIMTBP title? If it is then nVidia should have had a chance to work on DX10 issues already.

Have faith brother! Maybe someday that 2900 will look like the gold egg it was supposed to be.

FX debacle is a real stretch, a real stretch considering the 2900 doesnt beat the 8800 series in DX9 titles, is hotter, bigger, and louder.

The wishful thinking of some is amusing.

Yeah, but remember that one of DX10's selling points was to allow developers to optimize games more thoroughly, delivering better visuals without taking massive fps hits.

True, CoH is not a 'true' DX10; DX10 has rather kinda been tacked on, like in Lost Planet, but so far results are dissapointing 🙁

slightly better lighting and short grass on the terrain = 50% performance hit? 😕

LOL! This gets more interesting by the day 😀

So now, either the HD2900XT just plain has a better architecture for DX10, or the 8800 is the one lacking drivers... Priceless!

How about we just call it a draw, then everyone can be happy 😛
